Peru, also known as the country of CULTURAL DIVERSITY and 5,000 flavors. It is the only country in the world with at least 8 types of cuisine: Creole, Marine, Andean, Amazonian, Nikkei, Chifa, Vegetarian and Haute cuisine. Furthermore, Peru has 491 typical dishes, thus becoming the country with the largest number of typical dishes in the world. It also has 2,500 native soups, 250 desserts and more than 3,000 varieties of potatoes. We can feel proud that God has blessed us with a gastronomy that is unique in the world. 🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪
Lomo saltado and that tallarín saltado are not chifa and definitely they are not supposed to be eaten with chopsticks lol how weird, the waiter should have told you guys. Chifa is the name of the chinese/peruvian restaurants and they serve platea like arroz chaufa which is stir fried rice with vegetables, egg and chicken, and also is not eaten with chopsticks, just the regular good old fork. Inka cola is peruvian but was bought by Coca cola, because they couldnt compete against the higher demand of Inka cola. In Perú that soda is usually the perfect sweet drink to get when eating pollo a la brasa or ceviche because it goes well with the salty dishes. I would have suggest you try food menus for the cost of 2 dollars (you get and entree, a soup, a dish, dessert and a drink). Also, you missed a lot more like pollo a la brasa, causa limeña acevichada, papa a la huancaina, seco de cordero and street food, which for one dollar you can get: papa rellena, ceviche, anticuchos, choclo con queso, papa sancochada con huevo y salsas, tamales, arroz con leche, mazamorra morada, etc. Hope to see you again in Perú some other time. Best of luck, con your next destination.

Hi guys, I’ve missed your videos I hope you’re both doing well. That mahi sushi looked so good, very interesting about the Peruvian/Chinese food, those looked delicious 😍
More than just simple considering Peru the gastronomic capital in Latin America because of delicious food is would be an understatement since the reason is because of the great variety of food that you may find in the country. I mean, you were in Lima and you find yourself limited when it comes to varieties. There are food that I would hesitate to try and there is even other that I would never try even thought I am Peruvian myself. One of my favorites I would say is Pachamanca, which is cook in a rustically made oven, and this most of the time are made in the highlands and special celebrations. I bet you heard about Peruvians eating Guinea Pigs, and this would be something a lot of tourist wouldn't like to eat. Mainly because many find not nice to eat something the see more as pets. In the rain forest, the Amazon, people eat animals you won't find in restaurants, I mean, restaurants in Lima or Cuzco. The only ones that beat us with variety would be the Chinese, and that's it.
Thanks for watching Jose 😃There's lots of variety in almost every city we visit. Especially major foodie cities like Toronto in Canada or London in the UK. The options are absolutely unlimited. No way I'm eating guinea pigs 😳- Trevor

Peruvians tend to drink the Inca Kola soda in glass with lots of ice cubes, which cuts down on the sugar. And since it can get very hot in the summer, people can get lethargic fast, so this drink really quenches their thirst. The lomo saltado and tallarín saltado you guys had at that place doesn’t look like the typical Peruvians have on the regular. I suggest if you guys have time, to try out the chifa (Peruvian Chinese food) at the Peruvian Chinatown. Now that place really knows how to serve up these types of plates. You can also find a really good lomo saltado from the Tanta restaurant chain by famous chef Gaston Acurio. This chain is reasonably priced. Also, don’t forget the fruits! They’re amazing and many you can’t find anywhere in the world. Great video by the way :).

Born in Lima, now live in the USA. The onions served in the chicharon sandwich is called salsa criolla made with purple onions that are sliced very thin and washed in cold water so it’s not too strong or bitter, Add salt, pepper, lemon juice, olive oil and Aji Amarillo. This salsa is made fresh or you can place it the fridge or about an hour, otherwise the lemon juice tends to cook the onions and changes the flavor. So glad you both love Peruvian food - it’s the best in all the world! 🇵🇪🇺🇸

Food- Bistec o Pollo a lo pobre. Really simple, really diverse, and REALLY good. Pollo a la Brasa is also a very popular one. You can go to a restaurant called Pardos or La Caravana for both of these dishes I believe. Try it either with Inka Kola or Chicha Morada Drinks- CHICHA MORADA if you haven’t already. Also a traditional one. The soda Kola Inglesa- it recently changed brands to Fanta-Kola Inglesa. Desserts- Mazamorra Morada, Crema Volteada, Arroz con Leche, Flan, Alfajores
Lomo saltado is not chifa or peruvian - asian fusion 😅🤣 it's typical peruvian food such as the "aji de gallina" it was weird watching you eat it with sticks hahahaha
It's actually a Stir Fry style food which came from Asia so it is Peruvian but the style of cooking came from Asia probably from the Chinese Immigrants that came to Peru Decades ago
@@griphters4476 no. It is peruvoan and it was always cooked with more aji amarillo and tomatoes... In the 90 a lot of Chifa restaurants "al paso" started using also lomo saltado in their woks adding sillao and cebolla china
sofisn23 You are correct, lomo saltado is not chifa or a Peruvian-asian fusion dish. Lomo saltado is a 100% Peruvian dish with Chinese influence. Cutting the meat and vegetables into small pieces so the can be picked up with chopsticks and sautéing them quickly in high heat are Chinese cooking techniques. Even some Peruvian chefs use a wok, msg, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger or green onions in this amazing dish

Well since you're going to Chile all I can tell you is Chileans are crazy about Peruvian food and the Peruvian restaurants in Santiago de Chile are everywhere they're booming in there! So don't go into a restaurant thinking it's Chilean food; do your research first. Lol!
You definitely have to come once again. The restaurants calls “chifa”, but the main dish is chaufa, like rice with soy sauce, chicken and something else.

Next time you guys are back you have to try Pollo a la brasa which is huge in Peru it is a rotisserie chicken but it's seasoned with many Peruvian herbs & spices. There is also an actual china town in Lima with more authentic Chifa. Love your videos!
Go to mercado #1 in surquillo to try fruits that you never have seen before.... try granadilla, chirimoya, pitahaya, lucuma, etc ... lucuma taste better in ice creams or shakes. If you budget to go to a fancy restaurant try Central, they have a testing menu base on altitudes; this restaurant is #7 best restaurant in the world.
I’ve been to Argentina and Chile. And wineries are sooo much better in Mendoza (Argentina) than Chile. They also produce a very good quality olive oil .Chile is more expensive than Argentina and there is not much to see and food is bland and boring compared to peruvian food.
Loved the video. As a Peruvian may I give you a few notations (and suggestions)... 1. Always go for Chicharron, growing up Sundays at our local chicharroneria ( store where chicharron is sold) were the best things ever, if you happen to be in Peru again I would reccomend the one located in Rimac, Av. Alcazar.. hmu for more details .... 2. With Inca Kola, it is one of those things that if you didn't grew up consuming, when you first try it either you like it or you dont so hahaha I totally get your reaction .... 3. Makis are amazing, and would love to see you trying more flavours and versions another time (there are so many) .... 4. If I am not mistaken, you guys were around Miraflores or San Isidro which are quite expensive zones in the capital. I am aware that for tourist going deep into the center its tricky and difficult if you're not with a local accompanying you that is due to the insecurity; however, if you ever get the chance to come back PLEASE get in touch with a local that can take you to the neighborhoods in the center where all the flavour REALLY is, you dont even know (hmu if anything, fr) ... 5. Finally, loved that you tried lomo and tallarin saltado, however im not entirely sure these dishes are essentially asian-fusioned and peruvians usually eat it with utensils and in bigger presentations, a restaurant would have probably given you a much better (and bigger) presentation. ALL IN ALL, I love the approach you took and how the preparation (research) helped you have some insight of what you're going for. PLEASE come back! Lots of love..
What makes Peru's food so different is that we have such a large variety of dishes. Also its great that you're trying to learn how to pronounce all the dishes. Ill give u a little help though the LL together sound like a y. So "tallerin" would sound like tayarin. Dont forget to roll your R's lol. Great video.

The mix in our culture is really brilliant, this is one of the reasons why our food is amazing ❤️
We like Inca Cola cause it Fits perfect with our tradicional food
100%! We need to try it with some food - Trevor
I am from Perú and I will say that Lima is the best food capital in the whole world I had to say it😂
Lomo saltado and that tallarín saltado are not chifa and definitely they are not supposed to be eaten with chopsticks lol how weird, the waiter should have told you guys.

It costs quite a bit of $$$ to get subtitles. However you can use Auto Translate. Click the CC icon in the right.. then the GEAR.. then SUBTITLES ... then Auto Translate. Just find Spanish and you're set 😃

Lomo saltado is incredible, maybe one the most popular Peruvian dishes . But it is not Chifa, Chifa is just completely different experience, you must visit a original Chifa restaurant, they are every where in Lima.
Your pronounciation was good to Say Chifa, but actually that's the way we pronounce it in Peru because in South China they would pronounce it in a totally different way

If you miss Peru once you come back to Canada, you could buy Inka Kola here, and not only in South American groceries: some Walmart sell it. With the blue label it's imported from Peru, with the yellow label it's bottled in the USA.
I had no clue that you could get it in Canada. We will keep an eye out for it. Thanks Guillaume - Anna
Hi! Lomo Saltado is not actually chifa, but a kind of criollo dish. Chifas later adapted it to their menú. Hope you enjoyed Perú!

Angie we always love your comments. Who knew sushi would be so good in Peru right? It's apparently a big thing! - Anna

The sauce with the Pan con chicharrón is salsa criolla, i love it! Glad you did a second vlog on our yummy food😁
Good to know thanks! I'll stick to water to quench my thirst though. Can't beat that one! 😃 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers The Lomo saltado and the Tallarín saltado are Creole dishes, aren't chifa dishes. Chinese noodles are different from western noodles.
I'm Peruvian 🇵🇪 .. But i live in Spain 🇪🇸... I love this video I understand more o less... English... Thanks for go to Perú 🇵🇪 I hope that you can come back soon... 😊✌️
We love the food Gladys. Thanks for checking out the video - Trevor

Food- Bistec o Pollo a lo pobre. Really simple, really diverse, and REALLY good.
Pollo a la Brasa is also a very popular one. You can go to a restaurant called Pardos or La Caravana for both of these dishes I believe. Try it either with Inka Kola or Chicha Morada
Drinks- CHICHA MORADA if you haven’t already.

De hecho lo es, la técnica del salteado es china.
@@griphters4476 no. It is peruvoan and it was always cooked with more aji amarillo and tomatoes... In the 90 a lot of Chifa restaurants "al paso" started using also lomo saltado in their woks adding sillao and cebolla china
@@marting.jimenez1319 La técnica del Lomo saltado vino de europa, mucho antes que los chinos, los españoles trajeron el arroz
sofisn23 You are correct, lomo saltado is not chifa or a Peruvian-asian fusion dish.
Yeaah peruvian food! Amazing..

Every region of Peru has a Dish or dishes! Most of them are excellent
Thanks for the tips Jay Tee... I'm trying to roll my R's and failing as I type 🤣 - Trevor
