  • explanation of how to transition from maqam saba to maqam ajam. I demonstrate the transition with a few ayat from surah Qaf, and then I give you an explanation of how the transition takes place. I hope that you can see that when you understand the structure of maqamat, you're no longer guessing or trying to find your way around only based on a feel - rather once you understand the structure, it works like a map that you can follow.
If you'd like to learn maqamat, check out my course at www.OvernightQari.com - if registration is currently closed, join the waitlist and I'll email you when we open the course.

salam Shaykh, i took your overnight qari course last october
this was a very instructive video, jazakumAllahu khayran
i love the transition between kurd/bayati and saba, i think they complement each other so well
    same with rast and nahawand
lately ive discovered ways to move between kurd and hijaz, hizaj and nahawand, and bayati and hijaz
i think id love to see bayati and hijaz next, please!
    thank you, barakAllahu feekum

wa iyyakum! ya bayati to saba is also really nice, and rast-nahawand as you mentioned as well. Bayati to hijaz is super easy, I'll try to do a video on that soon inshaAllah. btw if you don't mind, send me a msg on telegram to let me know who you are :) I always enjoy knowing who's who here on youtube

Great video Maa Shaa Allah! I've been looking forward to the overnight qari course for a while. If possible, would you be able to elaborate or send an email regarding everything that will be taught? I recall reading that focus is placed on Nahawand and Ajam, but I wanted to know if you also will teach the other Maqaamaat as well as transitioning in between each of them?
    Baarak Allahu feek 🙏🏻

normally I focus primarily on one maqam, because we go deep on the structure of the maqam ... so we might spend several weeks on one maqam for example nahawand, then add another one more quickly (like ajam). I prefer to go deep rather than to rush through all the maqamat. Normally in my coaching program students can go over the rest, work on transitions etc. Sometimes when I do the Overnight Qari course I'll teach bayati and hijaz, in which case I would show the transition as well. It's a great course if I'm allowed to say so :) ... hope to have you in the next run of the course
