As a former crime scene investigator/forensic scientist I strongly relate to you. I don't share my personal testimony any more. It is only used as twisted gossip to condemn me. I only give testimony about the miraculous things that God has done for me. 100% I tell people, if you want to know if God is real, ask Him to reveal Himsrlf to you, and, He will.
Good point! There is a strong focus on "your story." We live in such a me centered world. Jesus is the center for a believer, and His story should dominate our conversation.
God be merciful, we all need to grow, don’t let your countenance fall, you see , I’m the guy that has heard that kind of retort in my early years as a believer.
This is such an interesting perspective. I love how you present your studies, opinions and thoughts in a very logical way. While I agree that the focus should be always on God, God also tells us in the Bible to tell people about the great things He has done in our lives as a testament to His grace and all powerful nature. Many people get saved through testimonies and so we have to share ours when we have the opportunity
I do believe personal testimony can be very powerful. However, like you said, it must be paired with evidence for your faith and being ready to defend the faith (1 Peter 3:15).
That's the case within technical terms. Speaking in defense of the immutable Hope doesn't have to be empirical (speaking from experience) in nature. The attempt of Christian apologetics can also be done through rational (speaking from reason) means.
Thank you for actually saying something that so many Christians get wrong. Subjective experience does not automatically equate to something being objectivelly true. Any person can give a personal experience as to why their worldview is true to them. But that's not what we base what we believe on. Many people will explain how they got saved by alluding to some mystical or spiritual experience based on some strong feeling they had. First of all, feelings don’t tell the truth. Also, we are not saved by an experience or a feeling. Scripture is clear that a person is born again the moment they simply believe that Jesus has given them eternal life. No feelings, experience, or events. Just this: I used to seek to earn heaven by doing good works, then I heard the gospel and was convinced it was true, therefore I believed I had eternal life (faith is belief in a proposition, not a feeling).
I believe that both should go hand in hand
After you have laid down the evidence give your own experience and how those evidences validates it
Thank you for sharing the gospel. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 You have a testimony!
I think sharing our personal testimony in a brief, dignified manner, giving God all the glory, is important, and it's Biblical.
For example, the Samaritan woman at the well. Others believed and were drawn to Jesus because she told them of _her_ experience with Jesus. Then, they listened to Jesus and believed what He said.
I wouldn’t have agreed until I met an atheist. My personal testimony does nothing if I don’t present actual evidence that Christianity is true. I had never been questioned like that before. I’m so glad I came across your channel and I am looking forward to learning more with you through your videos and book. Thank you!
It’s so encouraging when people share their personal testimony even when you tell people why you don’t want to tell them your story. It’s unique, interesting and doesn’t have to be just like anyone else’s.
Interestingly, Jesus tells His disciples right before he is taken into glory, "ye shall be witnesses of me when the Holy Spirit is come upon you...."
Well, we could say the disciples WERE already witnesses, but Jesus warns them that this time round, the witness that is needed is the Jesus.
Everyone has a personal testimony... Only Jesus Christ is worth discussing with anyone... ONLY JESUS 😂✝️🌹
