If Possum throws multiple teats he will be replaced in a heartbeat! His daddy is where it could come from. His mama Baerli and her dam has never thrown multi teats. Possum's half brother through tempest had the 3rd teat. Their common ancestor is Nefarious. Fingers crossed it does not pop up for you!!
I am trying to make a decision on breeding. I like breeding in October because it gives me March kids. Weather can still be iffy, but it's usually much better than February. The problem with that is, I raise meat goats. I only had 2 boys to sell this year and they weren't ready until the market prices dropped. Now I am trying to decide whether to breed for weather or profit.
I always like seeing your goatie girls (and boys)! And it's good to be aware of POTENTIAL problems and work towards your goals. The scratcher looks fun for the goats - I could see placing a few long-ways along a wall for those walking goat rubs. LOL
Great goat update, Megan! Really loved seeing all the goatie goats and hearing what your plans were. I'm curious if breeding Possum to a doe that you know throws multiple teats will really help determine if he will too, since they could come from mom and give a false positive about him throwing them? If you bred him to a doe you don't expect multiple teats from, then see what happens.... wouldn't that be better? Either way has to be a little difficult to try and plan for an unknown outcome, except to make like several "what if" plans. Excited to see fall kiddings! 💚
Yep i need to cart the scratcher pronto!!!! I might need several lol!!
Oh, and THANK YOU, Mystery Subscriber 😁

Oh! Yeah, that would make a big difference. That's quite the dilemma.

Yep, that is the plan. Basically try to force the issue and see what the result is. Thanks!
