We’re the Grimes family - welcome to our homestead!
For us homesteading is all about enjoying farm life, striving to be more self-sufficient, and being good stewards of this plot of land we’re blessed to call ours. We keep a garden, raise animals for meat and dairy, fix things when they break, and build what we need to make our lives better.
Homesteading is challenging and we are far from experts. We make mistakes but we have a passion for learning and trying new things - it’s how we grow!
We have a lot of fun around here, too, and the kids love living the country life where they can hoot and holler as loud as they want, play in the dirt, and help out with the chores. We do a lot on this little homestead, but most importantly we’re raising them to have a deep appreciation for all of God’s Creation.
Please subscribe if you’re interested in what we do around here, and we hope to see you around!

I make bone broth weekly and rarely have extra to put up. The time I did have extra and canned it, I ended up using it so fast, so now I freeze it in the event we have too much 😂 Bone broth in place of water to make rice is the best!
Thank you. Yupu just saved me from misery
Nothing better them home made bone broth, and so good for you too! I have always canned my pumpkin in the chunks and then let is drain over night before I use it to get the extra juice out, which I save of course to flavor icing with or add back in the event it drained to much. Great video Megan!!! ~~Vicki~~
Omg I haven't been getting videos in my line up in the morning. I thought you quit. I almost got on a sage and stone video and asked "Where's Megan at?"but I didn't wanna be a weirdo. Love y'all
Lots of great things made with the scraps/excess so to speak! Definitely is nice to be able to turn it into something else before composting or feeding to the animals. Great job Megan, broth looked beautiful and it was very interesting to see how you make tallow in multiple steps like that to refine it down nicely. Ragon, you crack me up with the popup text sometimes... I was holding my breath! Pumpkin puree turned out lovely. 💚
16:41 that's a pint jar. The measurement they give (pint) is to the tippy top of the jar. You don't actually get a full pint of product but that's okay lol! That's what we can our pumpkin puree in!
I thought that was the case, thanks for clarifying!
Sooo what you’re saying is. Save all of your meat bones and your veggies scraps. We need to make broth before we compost. Got it! 😂 thank you for sharing 🌸💜
Yes! Thank you
@@youngflourishing4632 yes and you can go just a tad further and feed the chickens the scraps and compost their poo :)
@@SageandStoneHomestead I have to get my chickens first. Hopefully next spring! 💜
@@youngflourishing4632 Why wait? No better time then the present to get chickens if you ask me <3
@ we currently live on raw land. And we are developing our homestead. Right now we are in a RV. I want my girls to have the best home possible so I’m trying to plan it all out. We have buzzards and hawks and coyotes. So I need to know they will be safe lol
Sage and stone & GWP on the same wavelength lately! Per usual, lol!! I love that you were doing the exact same things as me the past little bit!
Probably has something to do with y’all talking almost daily 😂
💯
Great minds thinking alike 😊
Smart video have had goats for 4.years. This is spot on. Deserves more views.
Thanks!
Have you tried it as UDDER BUTTER? Do you sell lotion? Soap? ❤❤❤
We are working towards having it up for sale!
You skipped explaining the hardest part - installing the T posts properly to begin with!!
Great Video!!
Thank you!
Hello new subscriber today, she is beautiful. By now she would be ready to bred and have some kids.i raise Alpine dairy goats. Thank you for sharing till next time God Bless.
She is a doll! Thanks for being here.
Silver seal
Have you tried brewing beer?
I made authentic, fermented root beer once in high school ag class, but otherwise no.
Amen!!! Psalm 5:11 😊❤️🙏
Great job! I’ve done cold processed and melt & pour - love those both! But I do like the idea of hot processed so I can use the soap quicker. The cubes are awesome - you could totally put some rope in there and make a soap on a rope! 😊🙌❤️
Thank you!
Heyyy great job!!! 😊🙌❤️
Thanks!
We have Nigerian dwarf goats and love them but we also notice there’s no demand for them here in MO. Ours are from AZ and are of a high milk production breed. We love them and have 9 in our herd. We’d love to have a cow also but our property isn’t the best for that. I LOVE your new skill a month videos!! I’ll have to catch up on those! What a great idea! I’m all about learning new things too! Nice to meet you all!! God bless! 😊❤oh! Your new skill idea!! I’m busy making soap this month and I saw you did that…I’ve just been trying to make soap in new ways so trying to make my own recipes and also include new things like aloe and yogurt…so you could expand on that one. Or do you do any yarning? I crochet and knitting is on my to do list. Likewise sewing! I love to sew and that’s a fun one! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!! 😊🙌❤️
I really enjoy the new skill videos Megan puts out on the channel! Q and A was good, might think about adding it twice a year.
Thank you! Twice is year is a good idea, just need plenty of questions!
This is the best video about what to expect yet. Thank you ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Congrats on the new position and it's confirmation God is Good! Being able to share the Word with local folks AND RUclips is a wonderful gift! And about the "new skill" video - (and I know this is highly personal but wondering if you might want to share) finding a scheduling/reminder system that helps you get things done. Example: If the reason seed-starting "isn't your thing", it could be remembering to care for them consistently. Would setting reminders on your phone be adequate to help or would a visual reminder (like a grown-up version of a chore chart or task completion calendar) help you more? I know I have struggled a great deal between knowing WHAT needs to be done, getting overwhelmed with the number of tasks, and then trying to decide what needs to happen first, and then getting caught up thinking I didn't have TIME to do that one thing, so end up starting a lot of little things that are never a completion of a task, but a start to several to be pulled away again by "regularly scheduled" tasks like making meals and end up exhausted, feeling defeated at not getting done what I wanted to get done by the end of the day. One great thing to ADHD is having so many interests and having so many ideas in your head, but it's also the greatest struggle because they're not organized like a library - more like a snow-globe trinket that you shake to make it look like snow over a scene. Only the globe is your mind and the snowflakes are all the ideas. At the end of the day, you might have a few that stick, but most of them have all landed in a layer. I dunno - just wondering if you had that kind of experience and how you've dealt with it.
For Megan and her brain, the reminders don't really work, she just ends up ignoring them (they end up on my phone instead 😂). Thank you for the suggestions!
Love watching you guys pop up on each others channels, obviously a wonderful friendship there ❤
Yes! Thank you
Hmmmm.... New skill for Megan... SEED STARTING. Teacher: Heather
😂👏
Yes Dawn is probably 160.
Boers around here are sick as crap with parasites and ALL OF THEM (almost) have CL
We FOUND PRIVET across the street here!!
Megan's Mozzarella is so good. Maybe it's the Nubian milk? I really loved it!
Maybe! Thank you
Loved the Q&A! Cracks me up about people with different kinds of goat ears, Megan loves the long ears (they're cute!) and Heather loves the almost no ears (also cute! I love the elf version more than gopher) haha. I still am unsure which will be my favorites (someday!). Since you mentioned wanting to sell lotions/soaps, maybe learn to make some more body products like lip balm (some of the tallow can go to that) or facial/skin cleanser/toners (like with herbs/tinctures)? Congratulations Ragon on your new pastor-ship, will be excited to see capsule sermons again (in your own time). 💚
Good ideas, thank you!!
You should try beginner crocheting! It’s a super cheap hobby. It’s a great stress relief and you can utilize the products you make for yourself or others.
Good idea, thanks!
I love you two together. ❤❤
So do we 😃
@GWP Homestead This was great - I am wondering how it held up or if you would make any more changes?
It has held up great! Only change we made after a couple of years was to cut the legs in half to make the whole thing a little shorter. It was just a bit too tall for some of the shortest girls.
Oh my, yes! Goats are escape artists! And yes they do teach others how! My daughter has a large goat dairy in Nothern Iowa. She says 'If you can build a fence that'll hold water it MIGHT hold a goat!!' I can look out right now & see 3 of mine mowing the yard! Who needs those concrete lawn ornaments? The 'life like' ones are much more interesting to watch!! God bless!!
Right?? Thank you!
100% my husband!! But he always picks them up on his way from the City! ROFL He stopped for a second time at the same place to pick up another rooster and said " So you're the lady who keeps buying my wife Chickens"
😂
Amen!
I was counting all my critters and texting my husband and he texted back "please stop counting" ROFL
Oops 😅
How do we get rid of goat if we no longer want it? It doesn’t seem like you can just drop it off at an animal shelter?
Sell it, eat it, or sell it to someone who will eat it. There may be a livestock auction somewhat local to you. This is a good question, and it's good to think about this before you get any animal, especially a farm animal.
Have you thought about infusing oil like Heather has done to use? If I get around to making this, that's what I want to try.
It’s worth a shot!
Labs eat EVERYTHING. Our lab mix is why our dogs became outside only dogs 😂
They really do! Ragon had one that would steal gloves out of the UTV.
😂my uncle Made a barn with 4 stalls all from wood fencing . Its amazing what you can accomplish with a little know how 😅
That a way!
Thank you Megan, ive been looking for a really good goat milk lotion recipe! One that was more creamy, less runny! I'm sending this video to my daughter who has really sensitive skin. God bless!
I have family with eczema and this use this a lot. Thank you!
Oh a question how long does it take to set up? And how long does it take for you to go through one container? Just curious how often to make. I am wanting to go 100% goat milk lotion for my family.
Usually about 24 hours to set up. Regarding how much I use, a little goes a long way, so I use less of this than I do a store-bought lotion.
This video was great! You make it seem so less intimidating.
Thank you!
Thar looks SUPER! Thanks for sharing your lovely lotion process and recipe, Megan!
Thank you!
Omg I’m so excited to get goats and make soap and lotion. Thanks for sharing!! 🌸💜
Thanks for watching!
This does look wonderful and very straightforward. Thanks Megan for showing how to make it and sharing the recipe. (Gonna save it for future!) Any idea if refrigerating it would help not have to use the preservative?
I would love to know that too! Not fond of preserves. Wouldn't a refrigerated lotion feel wonderful on a sunburn?!
The preservative is what makes it last; without it, it would sour at the same rate milk does, even in the fridge. Maybe you could make a super small batch and avoid using it?
@@GWPHomestead Good to know! I'm not overly worried about the preservative, personally. I was just curious if refrigeration would be an alternatitve.
Great video! Very helpful.
Thank you!
well done! Thank you.
Thanks!!
