We’re the Grimes family - welcome to our homestead!
For us homesteading is all about enjoying farm life, striving to be more self-sufficient, and being good stewards of this plot of land we’re blessed to call ours. We keep a garden, raise animals for meat and dairy, fix things when they break, and build what we need to make our lives better.
Homesteading is challenging and we are far from experts. We make mistakes but we have a passion for learning and trying new things - it’s how we grow!
We have a lot of fun around here, too, and the kids love living the country life where they can hoot and holler as loud as they want, play in the dirt, and help out with the chores. We do a lot on this little homestead, but most importantly we’re raising them to have a deep appreciation for all of God’s Creation.
Please subscribe if you’re interested in what we do around here, and we hope to see you around!

The Garden's Down (But Not Out)

There's so much ground beef because butchers / meatcutters hack swathes off each cut for resale presentation reasons. if you don't need the cuts to be peachy trimmed to look good in the shop and appeal to customers, you can leave the 'tidying up' trims on the cut and a fair bit less will go to ground beef from the cow. I'm always shocked by how much of a prime cut butchers cut off and grind in the name of looks.
My uncle used diesel fuel. He drilled two or three 1/2" holes on the tree, pour good amount of diesel into the holes. Within 6 months, that tree went straight to tree heaven.
God job sir, name of your tools please
Amen 🙌🙌🙌💥💯🙏
Really nice little system there, Ragon! Loved seeing your helper, showed exactly how easy it is to do. I bet this would work with like a lidded trough with like a lid of some kind, for fixed location feeding. Thank you for sharing the true blue version of the feeder cup thing. 💚
A plastic tote (one of those black ones with the yellow lid) would do great!
The cutest helper ever!
Thanks!
Levi said to put some on a big drum to fit a whole feed bag!
In a stationary coop, absolutely!
@@GWPHomestead if only we wouldn't feed more rats than chickens with it. We have to do daily rations.
Have you had any issues with rodents getting into the feed?
Can’t say no for certain, but I haven’t noticed it. Wouldn’t be any worse than any of our other feeders.
Can you roll the meat out flat with a rolling pin, then cut it into strips after smoking?
I would probably cut before smoking, but otherwise yes!
We’re in Ky also. We don’t have goats yet but haven’t found a lot of Nubians for sale in our area. Which is fine because we’re working on fencing and shelter right now. Cute babies!
Nubians can be a little harder to find than some of the others, and we've found (with any goats, not just Nubians) that just because someone is charging an arm and leg for a goat doesn't mean it is necessarily a better animal than others. It's a learning process. Thanks!
@@GWPHomestead Yes. I’m seeing them for anywhere $500 to $800! I have found two doelings that I’m considering but they’re in Alabama! They’re registered and reasonably priced but about 5hrs from me. However, my family is from that area so might make a good road trip!
Ooohhhhpossum, tsk tsk. Haha. Hopefully you can find his escape path. Gate looks pretty good to me! Have to take advantage of the good temperatures when you can. 💚
He's a very sneaky and determined little fella!
great progress you two!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
It's been raining here for over a week! I have materials stockpiled here to build a retaining wall. It has been WAY too muddy to do anything! I'm not happy, the goats aren't happy, the LGD isn't happy, and the chickens aren't happy. But the frog that has taken up residence in the puddle at the bottom of the hill where the wall is supposed to go is VERY happy.
@@HoneyHollowHomestead sounds about like it is here! Only happy critters are the frogs and the turtles 😂
Who is that black and white goat that followed violet behind you at the end? It looked like that one bred her but I don't think that's a buck??
That’s Sam the wether! Definitely interested but incapable.
Perfect lol!!!
The problematic Possum!!!
Pesky Possum Goat!
Congratulations on the working gate!!! Isn't it amazing how such a small thing can make such huge difference!! God bless!
It’s amazing how fast the little things pile it! It’s good to check something off the list.
@@GWPHomestead always a great feeling & I always wonder why I left it so long.....
Amen! Thank you for putting these clips together
Thanks for watching!
The Lord's creation is incredible. I think we take a lot of it for granted because it's been here and we are used to it. But if we slow down and really look at the world around us we will se infinite miracles.
Yes!
Great job mamma .just doubled the herd
Looks good man! About yo fo the same for a 4 board
Thank you Ragon, these capsule sermons have been very enjoyable. Life is rough and hard at times, but even in the worst of times there's always something beautiful and wonderful to be joyful about - including if it's just comfort of a prayer. Hoping your new duties are awesome, maybe someday (after you get more in the rhythm of things) you can give us mini capsule recaps of any sermons you give? 💚🙏💚
Thank you Misty!!
Thank you for these sermons on joy! I appreciate these reminders to look up! With trouble & turmoil around our country & worldwide it's easy to feel bogged down. Will be praying for your ministry throughout October! God bless!
Thank you Merry Anne!
Beautiful soap Megan! It turned out wonderful. Yay new skills!!
Thanks!
Your soap looks amazing! Good video and thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Wonderful video!!! Really enjoyed this. I've been making goat milk soaps, as well as other kinds, for many years, but I've never done a hot process soap! So this was very interesting!! Thank you Megan! Like you I love the rustic look! God bless!
Just got another batch of fat rendered down for more tallow - yay!
Wow that came out so great. I think I must have over cooked my first batch of hot process soap
Really happy with how this is going!
Good job! Thank you the sharing
Thanks for watching!
LOL Mr editor on the loss for the word Nourishing
Mr. Editor tries his best 😅
Megan, the soap turned out great! Love the wavy pattern on it from the cutter, appreciate the nice walkthrough and explaining the process. I think most videos I have seen (so far) do the cold process, so it was really cool to see a hot process one. Definitely interested in goat lotion! 💚🧼💚
Thank you!
That was awesome to watch, thank you! They came out beautifully.
Thanks Cathy!
Love your videos. ❤❤❤
Thank you Nollie!
Nice soap. I would love beef tallow in my soap. I am super dry. ❤❤❤
Megan whipped up a tallow balm earlier today, WOW does it do the trick.
Good job. I love the way you come in with different hair- dos.
That's a byproduct of having to start and stop repeatedly 😂 thanks!
Great job. Congratulations.
Thanks!
Did it work?
Yup!
Church is the body of Christ and I love that it exists outside of 4 walls and specific times on certain days :) These sermons are great, Ragon! Thanks for sharing!
Inside and outside, church is important. Thank you!
The older I get, the more I realize that thanking God for ALL things, that praising Him & rejoicing in Him opens the flood gates for Him to do even more in my life, as well as enabling me to do more for others. Thank you Reagan. God bless!
Thank you Merry Anne!
I also have Nubian does and love them! They’re so much fun.
Yes! Thank you.
What's the B-12 Chemtool in the gas tank for?
Supposed to help clean stuff up. Does it work? Can't say, but it doesn't hurt.
Thank you!!!
You butchered it. The spreader should be past your H-brace pole that the wire wraps around. And you can't pull the fence without the spreader slipping, unless you wrap the wire ends around the spreader.
I have a 1946 2N that doesn't have running boards and I'd like some. I found some I could buy on eBay but I'm not clear on how they attach due to the position of the brake and clutch levers on the left and the brake lever on the right. Is there a chance you could help me understand that connection? I don't see where the brace attaches.
See if this helps, it’s video #3. Good luck! Ford 2N Oil Change, Carb Replacement, Step Plate Install | 1945 Ford 2N tractor restoration [Part 3] ruclips.net/video/CPmzkf4X03s/видео.html
I love milking year round but I do it in the afternoon because I’m not a morning person haha. Great video guys!
Thank you!
Your patience is amazing. We have a different approach here, it’s more divide and conquer and less like everyone helping with each thing. If that makes sense. We have older kids too and they are home all the time so that’s different too. I love that there’s so many ways to do things and get happy kids and homestead success
There are so many ways to do things, and it's nice to have friends who help too!!
Milking favorites last is a good way to end on a good note!!
Agreed!
