  • Auto Trader’s commercial director, Ian Plummer, believes Chinese EVs present more of an opportunity than a threat to the UK.
Plummer says price gap between ICE cars and EVs is still an issue for consumers in the UK, helping cheaper Chinese models get a foothold.
What's more, partnering with established UK dealers will only accelerate growth of Chinese EV manufacturers like MG, BYD, Geely and more.

Why don't we just become fully dependent on them? Don't listen to businessmen. They will make their commission and live on their yacht.

Benefits of scale and speed, sounds like they're making disposable cars. Chucks the "it's greener" theory straight out of the window.

Why do you think this? EVs are already proving to be much longer lived than ICE cars. There are now Tesla's with over 400,000 miles on the original battery and motors. Mine (Kia e-Niro) is now 5 years and 62,000 miles old and there's been no loss of range at all. As for 'chuck'...I don't think so!...Just follow the money to companies such as Redwood Materials, Fortum, LiCycle, Northvolt and many others who already have pilot plants recycling batteries. The problem they have is that EV batteries are so long lasting that apart from accident damaged vehicles and some early Nissan Leafs (which didn't have a proper battery management system) their 'feedstock' is mostly phones, laptop and other smaller device batteries.

@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 The biggest reason I loathe them is that they're not for poorer working class drivers. It a poorer driver could afford one the battery is finished, if the battery isn't finished they cannot afford the car. Old ice cars don't have that problem unless you're trying to buy a Bentley or Ferrari for 2 grand.
If ICE cars are banned, hundreds of millions of poor people are going to be forced back to the stone age or worse.... onto public transport.
I don't hate EV's, I just find them a lesser technology with more needless hassle to refuel and they're anti poor people, people I don't think we should be attacking.

@@dodgywheelsandropeywiring5697 Utter nonsense!!...For a start I'm a pensioner and other EV drivers I know can in no way be described as rich. If you get to drive an EV you will realise that it is totally superior to an ICE, smoother, quieter, quicker off the mark and with none of that cranking to start the thing up. What you say about batteries is totally wrong. Check out the guy in Chesterfield who has two Tesla Model S, he runs an airport taxi service. One has 430,000 miles on the original battery and motor, the other is on 375,000 also original drivetrain. Batteries last a long, long time..Mine is 5 years and 102,000 km old (I live in France)...it has lost no range at all, none. As time goes on people are realising just how durable and reliable EVs are..no messy and costly oil changes, brakes pretty much last forever as the motor does 90% of the slowing down for you. I drove ICE cars for 45 years but the last 5 with my EV beats them all...and SO much cheaper to run.

@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 You're saying cheaper but I'm hearing nothing.
Fact, I am one of those poorer drivers, I can't get one with a working battery for under 2k, I can get thousands of ICE cars for that price with no loss in range though, I drive a 16 year old Honda Civic.
By the time I and hundreds of thousands of other drivers will buy one second hand we do need a new battery, a battery that costs more than we pay for an entire car. People aren't giving away cars with 10k working batteries for 2k when they can sell the battery for 6-8k second hand for a refurb.
It cripples new drivers banishing them to buses.
That has nothing to do with EV's being good or bad vehicles, they simply out of poorer drivers range. Personally I'd love a go of one but I'm not kidding myself into thinking I need to bankrupt myself to get one.

people will NOT be fooled into buying ev untill the greedy companys start to charge a fair price to charge them has 80 per cent of people cant charge from home.. On a fast charger you can pay upto £70 to charge for 240 miles of range how pathetic is that it cost me £50 to fill my hybrid up and that gives me 570 miles range so its plain to see ev ownership aint gonna happen too soon no matter what the price of these cheap chinese cars are..

Wrong. 60% of UK homeowners can in fact charge at home. UK public charging prices are crazy I'll give you that (I live in France where public charging is much cheaper) but most charging is done at home or at work at a fraction the cost of buying the oily crap. For £50 (Call it €50) I can drive my Kia e-Niro 1,780 km...so over 1,000 miles...you can't do that in your hybrid.
