I think I still have mine from the 60's around somewhere. As a kid I remember I took the time to move the "pointer" back and forth, slowly clearing the screen just to get a peek at what was inside. I'm sure lots of kids did that.
When I had one in the 1960s I went back and forth to remove most of the Al from the glass so I could see what was inside. I could have taken a picture of it but we didn’t have cell phones back then. I finally flipped it over and shook it up to use it again. It’s probably still somewhere in my 90 year old mother’s basement.
This was probably late 60's or 1970. My dad got so pissed at my sister and I fighting over the Etch-a-Sketch that he grabbed it and tossed it down the basement stairs. Big mistake. Huge mess.
Those were made by Ohio Art in the small town of Bryan, Oh. I can see the factory from my house and have friends working there. Sadly, the Etch A Sketch is now made in China. Side note, the town's other claim to fame is being home to Spangler Candy, who makes Dum Dum suckers, Bit O Honey, Necco Wafers, and a majority of the candy canes sold around Christmas.
My grandparwnts used to have one that was a globe ive missed it so much i loved it but of course my mother and her qttitude of hey this is old that means its trash
Steve has just done what every kid in our generation wanted to do: open up an Etch-a-Sketch and see what’s inside!
Yes, but now my brain hurts putting it all back!
It has also saved an untold number of kids being murdered by their parents by taking them apart!
I did as a kid
I actually squealed when I read the topic. I've always wondered...
what magic hides beneath the glass 🪄

Still have mine and even after 50 years, it still works like it did on day 1
Good Lord, what a horrible mess inside. I would have lost my ever-loving mind. Bravo! 👍
Steve is a genius, he will figure it out
I still have mine from childhood 😁

I've never seen a gold one! I thought they were all red like the one I had as a kid.
Same here. I bet it's really rare.
I’ve seen a nasa one , a sponge bob one, a rubics cube one, a Homer Simpson one, and a diamond one in videos but never a gold one yeah must be rare
Now we know where they got anti seize!🤣
Ohio Art made a classic.
My etch a sketch ran on the first generation Pentium Pro 0
Next video is, what's inside a Stretch Armstrong.
Found another video of a lady who had taken apart one may help to show configuration

If I only knew a fraction of what I know now, all the toy repair attempts! But I did make a lot of airplane models!
Look up the patent, there must be one and it must tell you how it works.
GL STEVE
There is no doubt you will find a way.
I’m sure someone off camera will work it out for you, since you’re actually incapable of repairing it.
Are they rare or something
That powder is going to stick to everything, AND get everywhere.
I also hope he didn't inhale any
Target still sells the miniature versions of this. Might be worth buying it and reverse engineering it.

Steve had an earlier career under the pseudonym Redgrave as a record breaking Olympic rower…..
I opened up my Etch-A-Sketch accidentally by stepping on it. Boom!
That was what I got for a messy bedroom!! 😉
Mix some iron oxide with aluminum dust =thermite
The two spectacles?
One for close vision and both for extra close vision.
@@NBSV1works like a charm!😊
It's far too late now but no one should be breathing in the metal dust. Should've had a mask on to open that up!!
That was a wast of time since all he done was take the back then didn't have a clue how to fix it, so ended the video
