- "A Little Bird Told Me" ~ Evelyn Knight & The Stardusters (1948) Decca #24514 -
The flip side of, "Brush Those Tears From Your Eyes" -
The song, "A Little Bird Told", as well as , most of the songs, which were current back in the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, & 1950's , was recorded by MULTIPLE PERFORMERS and usually, in the same exact year. However, in the case of the Evelyn Knight and The Stardusters version of, "A Little Bird Told Me", it was the "hit" version and the version most remembered today. Again, it was no crime to record any composition written back in the 1920's, 1930's, or 1940's, considered to be a prospective "hit" record. It was very common to have five, six, or seven different versions of a particular song being played by disc jockeys all across the country, during the same time period; it was common place and nothing out of the ordinary.
My grandmother was a dancer in the 50's. After doing some digging, I found in a local newspaper that she danced to this particular song for a pageant in 1949. Thanks for posting this, it's real cool to be able to catch a glimpse of what my grandmother experienced.
+CarlyNancy - You're welcome, thanks for stopping by to listen - Roland (MrRJDB1969)
+CarlyNancy and now you dancing with songs of today,.. taylor swift and rihanna...
That's really cool. it's fun to think about what our grandparnents were like at our same age.
well thats nice to know
The Great Depression ended in 1939, assuming that we are still talking about the 1940's.
I feel like I'm being transported to the 1940's era. I feel like I belong there. I have this longing, missing and sadness whenever I hear songs and seeing old pics.
Same
I completely agree!

"Some say that it's because of a certain part of our soul who was alive in this era......"
nah im trippin...

I was born in ‘49 and I absolutely love the 40’s and 50’s music! Just makes me happy.

@@heavylbeatz -_-
@@tylerries9279 I may be wrong though.
Is that a picture of you? If so, is that an old picture of you or is that you in recent years? If so you're looking young for your age :)
God bless you
for some reason, i feel a sense of nostalgia.
even though i was never born until the early 1990s
Micah Bell Fuck off Micah, let me enjoy this song in peace
Weren’t you born in the 1800s?

I work as an overnight PCA in an Alzheimers nursing home, and I'm currently sitting with a 98 year old resident listening to songs from his childhood (I'm assuming). He couldn't sleep, which is pretty common for people with Alzheimers and Dementia. He seems visibly more calm then before. It's beautiful what music is able to do for the human soul. Here's to hoping he lived a good life, and that Alzheimers is one day eradicated from this world.
As of 2024, this song is still excellent.
Fr 😊
I'm about to be 30 this year. On October 15th I grew up with older folks, my mom. Especially, she got me into I love for the 40s, 50s music and 60s.
I've always had an appreciation for that stylo, music. I prefer it more so than the music today.
I wish I grew up in the 50s life was way better
+lexi podsvirow --please tell us all, oh ye all wise, and all knowing ms.Liberal self appointed judge of all humankind.....when was life EVER fair?. you are so stuck in the past! I call you a 'Regressive'.....a sower of division.
+AeroDynamic I was just saying live was harder in the 50s sorry? lol
+lexi podsvirow - Racism has always existed and every single race of people have played a part in it... EVERY RACE, not just the white people. If you think racism doesn't exist today and that somehow it's gotten better under Obama's watch, it hasn't, in fact, it's gotten worse, where white people have become targets in many black communities, but I don't hear any lib opening up their over- sized mouths about it. I'm just wondering, were you alive back in the 40's or 50's ? If you weren't, what do you actually know of that time period ? Why you people today, keep regurgitating these 1970's leftist, liberal speaking points is beyond me. As a matter of fact, not liberal fiction, it was a better time period, than today, regardless of certain issues that you appear to be hung up on, but never experienced yourself. As a white male, I've been jumped, spit on, and called every name in the book, because of who and what I am, and not too long ago either, so I personally don't want to hear anymore about it on this video, take it elsewhere.
+MrRJDB1969 well than thank god the conversation wasn't directed to you lol yes I know that there is a big racism problem today I was just saying the 50s like all time periods had bad and good
+Heroborg let's make a dubstep remix of this song :D

A little bird told me that you love me
And I believe that you do
This little bird told me I was fallin'
Fallin' for no one but you
There's no use denying
I Might as well confess
Of all the boys I know, dear
I'm sure I love you best
The little bird told me we'd be happy
And I believe that it's true
A little bird told me we'd be married
And I believe that it's true
This little bird told me when we marry
We'll have a pretty cottage
Not too far
All fenced in like a movie stars
We'll have a great dane pup
We'll call him Ace
Lying there by the fireplace
A goldfish pond and a wishing well
Everything is gonna turn out swell
And now I know...
That is true
Jair Bolsonaro omg as soon as I saw that comment that quote came on
ALways, ALWAYS,,, Listen to the classics every now and then. You'll be happier if ya do.
Playing LA Noire for the first time, trying to get into the time period. Bought a dress styled after the '40s, and listening to the music they made. Amazing experience.
gosh, I've been looking for this kind of songs, I did not know it was the 40's, I really love their music, simple and nostalgic. i hope some of my fellow from the gen z love this too.
I was born at the tail end of the era but Mom listened to this music so it's sort of growing up music for me. I can't speak personally to the 40's but the 50's were a grand time to grow up. Men and women had class and you didn't hear profanity as a normal course of conversation. It was called respect. Folks didn't try to show how crass they could be
This kind of music makes me feel so happy I don’t know why Old is GOLD ❤️
Wish music was still like this 😄.
isnt expected that you commented on this video...🤔
+TheAngryPotato lol
Yeah, but do you here this on the radio?
+Navixor Unless your listening to 40s Radio Stations, then you don't

Anyone from India listening to these vintage songs ?
*boogies * I love how there are a lot of younger people loving this style of swing music :3 You really can't beat it. I've recently gotten into it and it just takes you to such a better place. Music can get really repetitious these days and it's all just noise. THIS was back in a time when music was actually MUSIC. This song puts such a smile on my face. I love 1940's - 50's swing. It's absolutely divine.
music is music, no matter what genre or how bad it may sound to you / anyone. stop trying to be the special snowflake
I'm not, I just miss music like this, that's all. This kind of music has gone out of style and it's sad. So I'm not trying to be "special". Its just the class and elegance of this kind of music is dying out.
+Daisy Chambers "i miss music like this" so im guessing youre around 90 and thats a random chick on as you default photo
When I said that I meant, I actually miss this era of music. You don't see this style any more and it's rare you hear it nowadays, that's all my meant. Why is everyone so defensive? Enjoy the music people and lighten up!
totally
Better than despacito
Recker what's despacito ?
So true
Don't even mention despacito -_-
No question about it

I love all music from the 40's,its relaxing and meaningful and soothing, life seemed so beautiful and cool then
é surreal como eu com apenas 19 anos sinto uma sensação de ter sido dessa época!
Out of all the years I could of thought of the 1940's were the first thing I typed in the search bar. I don't regret it. The music sounds just lovely. It is nice to be able to hear it now.
This music reminds me of my past life in the 40's and 50's.
This is back when people actually had talent it is a shame that nowadays few singers have real talent anymore
+Kory St. Aoro - I agree 100% - Roland (MrRJDB1969)
Just imagine in 80 years kids and young adaults lisining to the 10’s music
That was the life: fabulous music, happiness, no phones, social media to suck our time. Sad generation now😟
I love all this music from this era but Evelyn she has touched my heart this song just reminds me of my grandparents the old days all these songs they're just amazing it's just a great find to have these songs on RUclips I love you guys and I want to thank everybody you have brought back a lot of memories and made me have faith again I don't know if I can back that up but I'm trying God bless thank you....✌️🌎💪🌟🇺🇸😇......
This song is special for me reminds me of happy times with my sister in law Doreen who played this on her new record player in the late 40tys
I love 40s and 50s music and clothes but I would hate living in that era.
I wouldn't, I love studying and watching documentaries about WW2 and imagine and the joy and parties coming back from the war.
Oh the joy of coming back to your family with your father and two brothers dead, your hometown blown into oblivion and alot of the people you knew before the war dead, wounded, missing, disfigured or mentally scarred for life
I'd like to live in 2018 but with 40s 50s and 60s music lol
Got that right!!!!!
Wow bitch
I'm 30 an this song makes me want to clap along an smile

Everyone else is like, ‘this is such a cute song’. But I’m here sad that Steve and Bucky never got to sing this to each other.
I love the 1940s!
Funny but I was 8 years old when this was a hit, I don't think I have heard it since then, but I remembered the words and anticipated what she was going to sing.
I don't know if Im crazy Im young But I honestly wish I was born In The late 40's I dont know why I just feel like That time was so classy, and The lyrics just speak to me.
Como me gustaría tener 20 años de edad en los años 40's pues considero que antes era mejor en muchoooos sentidos.. saludos a todos.
I'll be honest in my opinion this was the golden age of music!
Why do I feel happy and sad at the same time? 😢. This song felt so familiar...
This has got to he one of the bounciest rhythms I've ever heard and it's from 1948? Amazing.
It was a great time to be a kid; not always so great for adults.

Wish I could live a day in this era !
- If I ever got the chance to go back to the 1940's or 1950's, chances are, a single day would not be good enough. I'd most likely, just stay there and not return to the present.
I came here from 1948 Identity War on the Campaign Trail.

I wish mafia three included riots against the war in Vietnam and the main character being hated upon because he was in the US marines and that he's black.
this actually sounds pretty good. wow.
I was just in the mood for old tunes🎶
Beaiutiful.

I enjoy listening to music back in the 30s through 60s, I'm only 15 and the music my friends listen to is complete trash but we all have our own opinions

I am sometimes sad because I could not experience such a great age. aswell as the roaring 20s before depr hit. Just sad....
In true Evelyn recorded the song in middle 1947 and released in that year, but the song was in billboard in end of 1948, because of that people think the song was release in 1948 and was went up in billboard in 1949. (The song was in billboard in the end of '48 until the beginning of '49)
