FlyWire is about exploring flight and the freedom this incredible experience brings us on a personal level. Flying has always captured the imagination and excitement of living life to its fullest. Hi, I'm Scott Perdue. In a former life I flew the F-4 and F-15E, more recently I retired from a major airline. I've written for several aviation magazines over the years, was a consultant for RAND, the USAF, Navy, NASA as well as few others, wrote a military thriller- 'Pale Moon Rising' (still on Kindle). But mostly I like flying, or teaching flying. Some of the most fun I had was with Tom Gresham on a TV show called 'Wings to Adventure". We flew lots of different airplanes all over the country. Now with FlyWire I want to showcase the fun in flying, share the joy and freedom of flight and explore the world with you. Make sure you subscribe if you want to go along for the ride!

I love the intro with the F-15s
Thanks. That was fun.
I miss White Waltham terribly. Up until this past January, I was an American expat living in London. I got my PPL at Elstree and a short time later joined White Waltham. The highlight was getting my tailwheel rating on the supercubs G-OFER and G-XCUB. Its hard to beat the fire there on a cool winters day. Great people, great planes, and great fun. Would love to see you visit Duxford Scott.
Welcome to the UK, Scott.
Great to see you in the UK Scott. If you get "up north" love to show you the world of flying in God's county..Yorkshire.
So much cool history. It looks like a great place!
Great UK visit video thanks for the update FW. :)
Welcome back to Blighty and my neck of the woods!👍🙂🇬🇧
Welcome to the U.K, hope you enjoy your trip, loads of small airports around, there's one not far from where I live called Halfpenny green, we also have RAF Cosford Museum. have a great time 👍🏻
I'm based at White Waltham, wish I knew you were visiting, would have taken you for a flight!
CFI in the UK and Australia is chief flying instructor, so the head instructor of a school.
Great interview Scott, interesting they focus only on the private license.
I am too low hours to “risk” going near Heathrow, but I hope to get into White Waltham one day! Welcome to the UK, I will be interested to hear how your journey goes.
Definitely England is one of most developed aviation place in the world:)
Thanks for the tour! Neat planes!
In the 80's I saw White Waltham from the air as a passenger in a 1946 Aeronca Chief which was based at nearby Popham airfield. There was a Spitfire in the air at the same time which I believe was based at WW. A wonderful experience!
Looks like a very nice place. Certainly a unique time to visit the UK. Respect, care and sincere condolences for the passing of Queen Elizabeth. RIP. 💐
It's a DUMP, I wouldn't bother if I were you.
Going to enjoy seeing aviation from a different perspective….
Hope you’re having a blast!!!
I thought it looked familiar then it twigged and I realized it featured in a Midsomer Murders episode.
Scott great video while am based at Oxford White Waltham is my ‘London Club’, used to be the home base of the ATA which did a lot of the ferry flying in WW2, with a lot of brave women pilots from far afield as Australia South Africa Canada Chile Brasil and Argentina
Another great episode. Great to see you over this side of the pond. WW is about 15 miles from me, and I used to attend the air shows regularly. Loads of history. Best Geoff
Wonderful, thanks for the view of how it is there and how social it could be here.
Thanks for taking us on the journey, such a great spirit of aviation present there.
Welcome to the UK. Are you coming to Wales? Old Park Farm will welcome you
You have come to the UK at an historic time. If you are coming to Scotland there is an original stinson from Vietnam at Fife airport in Glenrothes that the owner occasionally demonstrates. He was a former RAF pilot.
Welcome to the UK Scott. Looking forward to seeing where else you get to. When I got my UK PPL in 1993 I had a couple of lessons then took 3 weeks off work and just went to the airfield (Staverton - Glucestershire) at 7am every day and spent the day there either flying or doing ground school and sitting the PPL exams I was lucky to be teamed with a great instructor and got my license inside about 2 months despite the UK weather.
Well, well. I used to work for the guy that ran Hawker Restorations (although not on in that business. Electron microscopes would you believe). Interesting times and an interesting guy. Interesting interview too Scott. Welcome to the UK.
I used to live and work just down the road from there and would see and hear some amazing aircraft. Great to see you are in the UK and a brilliant interview.
Looking forward to seeing where else in the UK you report in from.
Looking forward to more instalments on the tour 👍
Great interview!
Wow Scott have watched FlyWire for some time and the first airfield you visit when you come over here is the old airfield where I worked in the eighties - it has a fascinating history more than just you could cover I think but if you come down South you might be interested to visit Dunkeswell ( Somerset/Devon )the only airfield where the US Navy was based in WW2 flying Liberators as part of RAF Coastal Commands ongoing battle against U-boats out in the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic,
G'day Scott,
Yay Team !
It seems that my impression of the British General Aviation "Scene", gleaned from seamailed hardcopy Aeroplane magazinery..., was not far wrong ; I note the concerns raised around maintaining the numbers of Aircraft movements in order to generate Revenue to make the Aerodrome sufficiently profitable as to not find itself sold-off to a Real-Estate "Developer" and turned into a Feed-Lot for Suburban CitiZens...
From memory, here in Oz, a GA Private Pilot Licence - Restricted, requires 45 hours with 55 for Unrestricted...; being in posession of a GFA/FAI Gliding Certificate (A, B, & C) amputates 20 hours from the GA-PPL time-requirements, and holding a Recreational Aircraft ("Ultralight" - ie 630 Lb single seat / 970 Lb 2-seat) Pilot Certificate - which itself requires 25 hours to attain..., likewise cuts 20 hours off the time required to obtain a PPL.
And, working that trick backwards - having a GA PPL will remove 10 hours from the time required to secure an RAAA (Recreational Aircraft Association of Australia) UPL.
Britain is rather overpopulated when it comes to looking for sufficient flat, firm, well-drained land to safely operate a "Nest" of small, light, Private Aircraft, in a place with reasonably good Road/Rail connectivity...
And, as Landing Fees fall behind mounting Rates and Insurance Premiums, with Fuel prices spiralling upwards ; it becomes ever more difficult to imagine any long future for General Aviation, wherever one looks.
Such is life,
Have a good one...
Stay safe.
;-p
Ciao !
What fuel is available in England for piston engined aircraft, is it 100LL ?
100LL, UL91 and Mogas
Don't have class B airspace in UK Scott

How much is an hour in the air doing PPL these days?
