- Flying a single-engine plane over the North Atlantic to Iceland. See inside the cockpit, hear Air Traffic Control, and follow my flight in a small plane over the cold, unforgiving Atlantic Ocean.
I'm Crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a Cirrus SR22, Flying across the North Atlantic to Iceland and Reykjavik, the most Northerly capital city in the world. This is an IFR light aircraft ocean crossing in a Cirrus SR22 Turbo aircraft. Leaving Wick Airport in Scotland (EGPC) to Reykjavik Airport (BIRK) in Iceland.

Just beautiful Steff. Isn't the unspoiled beauty just breathtaking. Thanks for sharing.😊
"I have tried and failed on a few occasions in the past..." and you have followed Marcus Aurelius on how the obstacle to reaching our goal becomes the way to reach our goal. The obstacle is the way. IYKYK.
Great video Stefan. I flew to Oshkosh via Iceland, Greenland and Canada last year in a DA62. Fabulous experience. 🛫🛫🛫
Wow, what a great trip. Thanks.
Stefan, that was such a pleasure, your flight to Reykjavik. Well done, excellent editing and even the music just before switching from IFR to VFR, nice piano sounds.
Cheers David, this was a big edit so I appreciate that.
Simply beautiful
Thanks Stef..................................................................
Let's gooo Stef!! From your dream of circumnavigating the planet that was spoiled by the COVID-19 pandemic to finally flying EYZ overseas to Timor and now this! It's a huge leap to the right direction!
Just finished watching the first video in the series, then this pops up! Great work Stef.
Thanks for the support Jacloch, good timing!
Wow Stefan! Amazing flight and scenery. Your video production is outstanding! You aviation tubers have all the fun!
Thanks Brian, I am definitely very lucky to live this life for sure. I'm glad you enjoy the videos, thanks for the message.
Always love your videos Stef! Perfect way to end a long day
That's a nice thing to hear, thanks Sam. Enjoy the journey.
Well done Stef 😊
I sense the emotion in your voice before departure and excitement when Philippe told you had been the most North you have ever been 👍
Awesome to see! That's one big 'bucket list' item checked off! ✅✅✅
Well done
👍✅ Congrats Stef, tks for taking us along!
What a wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing it.
Absolutely amazing footage and really high quality video as usual! Really love these videos - thanks for sharing 👍. I’m doing my RPL test on Tuesday 🤞 and straight into PPL after - seeing this makes all the hard work worth it! Can’t wait to go on adventures like this myself.
That's a very fancy way to do sightseeing! Epic flight!
Only 15mins?? 🥲great video none the less
Awesome Stef! Thanks for taking us along!😊
Thanks Dave
Loved seeing the pure joy in your smile, well done...
Thank you, all genuine, this was such an amazing experience.
Far out man hahaha you really got me at around the 3 minute mark, got this epic wave of nostalgic emotion as I was reminded of the first time I went on a plane when I was 6. I just remember being fascinated by clouds when I was a kid and seeing them up close and from above just blew my mind. I think that was the defining moment for me where the rest is history as they say. What a journey. Thanks for sharing this with us mate, it continues to inspire me to work my ass off to build an enterprise of my own that can fund this dream of mine.
Cheers mate
I'm doing a stopover in a few weeks and going flying when I am there. Can't wait.
You're braver than me Stef. I get worried when crossing the Spencer Gulf from Whyalla to Port Pirie!!
I agree!!!
Nice video Steff. Glad you can tick that one off from your bucket list.👍
Inspirational and educational. Thanks for that
Incredible! Great video as always
Great video, a dream for most GA pilots. In one of your first shots of Iceland by the sea at 11:18 I think that is Vik and the Black beach. Congratulations!
So when you referred to the picture with Louie and JP I noticed Matt Guthmiller in the group!
Yes I think he did some of the RTW trip with JP as well.
Too cool! Thanks for letting us tag along. ❤️
My Musketeer has huge fuel tanks and could do this flight with a modest ferry tank. I also know when I’m out of my depth.
Oh Wow! Your excitement and joy is contagious. I've always had the desire to go to Iceland. Never considered flying myself there, but perhaps now I have something to add to my bucket list.
I do hope there's a bit in one of your videos coming soon that goes into the backstory on how you made this happen - its incredible! What an incredible visual journey
At the end of this series I am working on a couple of bonus videos, covering the 'how-to' of this sort of trip. So yes, watch this space, I'll definitely share how to do something like this yourself.
Epic! I noticed the famous Vik rock formations on the beach at 11:45. This would be such an epic bucket list trip! Maybe I should call up Phillipe and set it up! :-)
Another very cool adventure!!! Congrats!!!
That was a fantastic episode mate.. looking forward to next one
Awesome video!
Such a great video! You inspire me every video you make! Cheers from NYC!
Stunning scenery Stef.
Awesome! great vid Stef, such a lot of planning and effort to fly to a supermarket!...Oh Wait..Iceland the country!!..LOL..keep em coming Stef, very entertaining!
Another Epic video, thanks Stef, Melbourne weather is not much different from there at the moment, slightly less snow..
Inspirational! Thanks for bringing us along Stef ❤
Thanks for following along Trizza
This is a great adventure! Looking forward to more Stef!
Thank you, lots more to come in this mini-series.
Amazing scenery Steff.
WOW what an adventure! Great video Stefan and already looking forward to the next episode 👍
Hey stef when are you going to do port mac to Norfolk that would also be a great trip and one that you could add to, love your work and great to phillip
Really enjoyed this one!!
Very enjoyable video - thanks!
Nice
Thanks
Loved this video Stefan, I start my training next month and I cant wait to get going, happy holidays from Liverpool mate.
your choice of music is brilliant as usual
Thank you, I spend a lot of time on the sound mixing of these videos so I appreciate you saying that.
Fantastic video… Congratulations and Thank you!
Ok that is awesome. Slightly different to Moorabbin!!
Haha yes a bit different to flying over the Bass Strait!
Beautiful scenery
Absolutely awesome, Stef! I'd love a follow up video sometime about the logistics and planning of this flight. I often find that stuff just as interesting as the flight!
Great video Stef! Really enjoyed it
Awesome work
Epic! Loving this new series - nicely done!
Thank you Nate
Love your videos and loved the little nod to FunForLouis, JP, Matt Guthmiller & N210EU in Wick. Fun fact, I actually got to sit in that aircraft in California and then spotted it again in Cannes LFMD a few years later
No way, that is cool. I really enjoyed Louis videos of that trip.
@@StefanDrury I was actually at the arrival celebrations at Kern Valley (L05) at the end of their trip and it was such a great time. I still have the photos sitting in that C210T cockpit and from when I saw her at LFMD. I think N210EU is now based in Rotterdam with new owners flying around Europe
great video and well done in ahcieveing one of your dreams!
Beautiful! Aviation goals!
No dry suit for your buddy? Jet boys!
I have flown this route on my Columbia last June. It’s such a great adventure. The weather on our trip was better though.
Welcome to Iceland!
Thank you, what an incredible place.
Love your work and flying stef your a massive inspiration ive been subbed for 3 years!
Thank you, great to have you along for the journey. I appreciate the support.
Great video as always
That looked like a cold slice of pepperoni pizza 🍕, I thought only Italian instructors like me ate that for breakfast, especially when flying cross country, lol 😆 CFIAM/A&P JOE COVINO Lake Havasu Arizona.
Fantastic video Stef! How hot was it in that water suit for 4+ hours?!
Thanks Randy, one big advantage of the SR22 is air conditioning. So we kept the cabin temperature cool to avoid overheating and any dehydration issues. It was hot, and can get a bit uncomfortable after a few hours, but honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for that long a flight.
Nice... my bucket list too.. but here's a thought for you to ponder.... all that snow and I bet that there is ZERO FOOTPRINTS on it... NEVER been touched by a human on like 99 percent of it.
I’ve been to KEF loads times in my day job. You’ve no idea how lucky you were with the weather! It’s normally OVC002 blowing 30kts! Jealous…
You should come to sweden and go to Kiruna ( ESNQ ) and up to norway, that's even more north :)
Great video
Too damn cold Stefan. Bit different from central Australia!
Haha yes. But less convective turbulence at least!
An Aussie flying a US registered aircraft flying in Scotland. Awesome
Ha, true. Aviation is a multi-cultural affair.
Hello Stefan. What an amazing adventure. A quick question: what is the brand/type of survival suit that you are wearing? Thanks!
Thanks Gonzalo, it's a Switlik U-Zip-It Anti Exposure Suit
Yeah, first comment! Love your work Stef, really interesting content and great adventure. Looking forward to the continuing story
Thanks for being here early Tony
That immersion suit looks uncomfortable!
Dry suite general aviation atlantic crossing
Question for the cruise of the flight, how were you recieving oxygen at FL120? Was it required? I watched the first video on this and saw the oxygen intergrated into the ceiling of the cabin but couldn't see any tubes here. Great video as always.
Not required below 12,500 feet. FAR 91.211.
Great teamwork and amazing views!
Why is Stefan only in a survival suit ? Why not both ?
Awesome video, as always Stef. Can you tell me what you were adding into your fuel tanks from the 1 gallon jugs before you took off from Wick?
I guess I should read before posting…I see now that it was TKS fluid. My SR20 isn’t fancy enough to use TKS, mine goes in my handheld sprayer 😫
How safe is this aircraft? Been reading a lot of horror stories would love to know ur opinion. Thanks!
👍
So... Phillipe is totally loaded yeah? 😅
What power setting were you using for the crossing?
The flight level was 12000 ft? How much does it cost per mile to fly this? Do you have to pay to use airports/ATC? What's the maintenance cost per year to own a plane like this?
Good stuff Stef, but also have to ask at 12:00 was that a remnant of a plane crash?
Yes it's the wreckage from a DC-3 that crashed on Southern Iceland. You can see a closer look at it in an upcoming episode in this series so stay tuned!
Look up Solheimasandur Plane Wreck, you’ll find the whole shabang!
On my bucket list as well 😀🙏 What did you pour in the fuel tanks. Anti freeze stuff?
That's TKS fluid in a seperate tank to the fuel. It's used for de-icing the wings in freezing conditions.
@StefanDrury Ahh FIKI stuff 👍 Awesome to see you are on adventure. Would love to see more content on how you prepare and plan, and I will be ready to take notes ✈️😎👍
the bird is short landing
Didn’t you get pretty close to 64’ when flying in Norway?
MAX CONRAD
No offence but why not just get your MEP rating to do that? Seems like an unnecessary risk tbh
Great video - but too much Casey Neistst!
Sipping fuel directly from the plastic canister?
TKS Fluid
Yep that's TKS fluid for the deicing.
What you using to take a leak on the flight?
Thankfully neither of us needed to do that on this flight. But we had options if that was required!
Mathius Rust did this flight when he was 18. In a C172. He was a pretty accomplished/lucky aviator for doing this trip before his 50th hour. But yeah, a bit of a fruit loop.
You didn’t use oxygen cruising at 12,000 feet? I know it’s legal, but oxygen would be recommended, no? Did you check your oxygen levels?
We were checking O2 saturation levels via a fingertip monitor at regular intervals in the flight. We also descended to 10,000 to get out of stronger headwinds at one point but I didn't include that in the final video.
@@StefanDrury Thanks. I just started using 02. One of my motivators was your recent video about using oxygen. Thank you!
Stefan Drusy or Casey Neistat?
Feeding Seagulls at an airfield is not a good idea.
i know theres so.much supoort here but your circuits are messy and centerline control is poor.
were you using rudder with that crosswind?
maybe also instead of talking to the camera on route on auto pilot, might be good to stay ahead of the plane. keep a lookout not just assume atc will look after you. look for landing spots at all times. were you doing clearoff checks?
i get the whole positivity and love and rainbows but you edited out the checklists and also when you departed the pattern(circuit in Australia) why didnt you state what part of the circuit? crosswind? downwind? altitude? climbing to what?
did u edit that out or is your instructor more interested in eating pie...?
😂
If you don't want to end up on the news for the wrong reasons in my opinion you need to sharpen up a lot before you can get your PPL.
Good luck and always strive to be as proficienct and as accurate as u can be!
Btw not everyone can be a pilot. That other youtube rich and unsafe pilot who had instructors not saving her in fear of not getting work or fear of "being woke and offensive" is dangerous and we all need to speak slow clear and go through checklists and understand why etc.
please be safe
✌
1st :)
Very quick!
