    Nice video and explanation! Last year, I built about ten similar circuits that were triggered by an RF transmitter and Arduino in my house. They were supposed to control my Christmas lights to music. It worked well for one night. Sadly, I did not waterproof the control boxes well enough and it rained that night..... It only worked partially from then on.

    Thank you for the Channel... if I may say so: I have noticed that you mark power supplied to circuit(s) with +V & -V (ex. +5V & -5V)... this will result in 10V... I would mark them +5V & 0V (or GND)...

    You're sensing for any IR, right? Is the chip reading the signal sent by the remote (PWR, CHANNEL+/-, etc) or just looking for a threshold voltage?
    I know I could just look up the data sheet for the chip, but I'm assuming it's just a threshold. If so, the chip (and LED functionality) could be eliminated from the circuit, right?

    How could this project be modified into using an analog data wire (say from an Arduino) instead of IR? These kind of relays cost like $40, so it just may be cheaper to build one.

  • @ExStaticBass
    @ExStaticBass 7 лет назад

    This is great but I think I'd use a dedicated microcontroller instead of that simple circuit. Mainly because any IR signal can trigger that device instead of a specific code. It would be simple enough with the cheapest of microcontroller to have it look for a specific code and only activate when it sees that. I'd suggest something like the Microchips PIC16F15313-I/P which only costs around a dollar and has ample functionality for a project like this one. As long as it's sampling rate is faster than the baud of the transmitting remote speed shouldn't be an issue. It's just that it occurred to me that it might get a little annoying to have something switching on and off when muting and unmuting the TV or changing channels. That said, programming it to respond to something like the pause button on a blu ray player might be good considering it could turn a light on in a dark home theater such as to facilitate using the restroom without stumbling over things in the dark.

    Hey, i have a really old car and the other day i left my lights on and the battery went flat. Could you make a video of how to make a circuit that would make a buzzer sound when the lights have been left on, like modern cars have? I was thinking a simple AND gate between the headlight switch and the car battery light would work but my electronics knowledge is limited. Cheers. Love your videos by the way :)

    Nice project! Could you also built an RF one that works on battery with low consumption? I've got an irrigation pump I want to control remotely about 300m with eye contact for antenna if needed no obstacles open field. I just want to activate the starter switch remotely then it comes online and it's off-grid so I dont want it to drain the battery too much when idling.

    Any circuit like that in a house is going to be rated max 20A, so if it were me I would just put a 20A relay in it and call it a day, that way you don't have to worry about it if a friend steals it or something... but useful nonetheless!

    Interesting way of using an IR sensor, At first I was thinking that the 4017 would count the cycles of the 1738, but then I realized that the 100uF capacitor is for ignoring the pulses and create the necessary voltage for the 5227,am I right?
