The RAM is needed for the new KEY 61 instruments. The extra storage is needed for the memory for the new instruments as well. The old price was 2299 if you and add 397 for the New Plugins and instruments that came out last year the new price 2500 is a good deal

In fairness their will always be instruments that AKAI releases that are not included for the MPC that you'll have to buy, but the next time they do this will it be worth it? Say they go from 4GB's to 8GB's of RAM and from 48GB internal storage to say 128GB's? Doesn't it make sense to just create a device that you can expand yourself like they used to?

The hardware focused Akai changed when they came out with the Ren. Since then they have been more hybrid so making devices where people can change out chips might be issues in this new age of MPCS

@@gsmith11172 The Ren was strictly a controller that controlled the software. The new versions (MPCX, LIVEII, ONE, MPCXSE) are operate in a standalone fashion. When connected to the computer they become controllers and nothing is dependent on the hardware but the computer that is running the software in that sense. Their are those that never use the software at all in which case expandability is key.

@@SoundstarMusic Yes, it totally makes sense, if the RAM was upgradable that would be amazing. While I am going to be having the MPC X SE I really really wish they had at least upgraded the RAM to 8GB, that would have been a proper upgrade with the extra memory and the bundled content. I am not at all complaining but I do think that AKAI could be a lot more generous with the spec upgrades.

$2.1-2.2k for the OG X plus $500 worth of software, 2 more gigs of ram. Seems like a good deal.

I think it's a great option for anyone who doesn't currently own a MPC and they want a newer one and can afford it. I'd choose it over the others. But for those who own newer ones i'm not sure if enough was done to make some of that user base update the current ones they have.

I already have a MPC X SE on order. For me yes It is what I want, however I do wish the RAM was upgraded to 8G. I am upgrading from the MPC ONE, I will be keeping both cause I love the ONE. The MPC Key 61 is not of interest to me. I have plenty of analog and digital synths and 3 with 4 boards. I also have the MPK261 and the Akai Advance controllers. The MPC X SE style, upgrades and bundled content, that is way too much temptation for me Cause MPC is my favorite platform. I started of working with Ableton and the PUSH 2 before I really dove into the MPC workflow, both are really great, but the MPC I can just dive in making music and beats and sampling and...well...any damn thing I really want, especially with the ease of also using my other outboard gear with the MPC. I am not a fan boy of much in life but MPC I am all in!

Yes the device is definitely an upgrade from the MPC One for sure. Congrats on you purchase as well and have fun making music with it which is ultimately what it's all about! 💯

Akai needs to FIX THE FIRMWARE on all the mpc and force before they make a new device! Keep your mpc 4000 & mpc 2000xl because it is more reliable than these new ones.

$2500 for a mpc renaissance with $250 worth of ram and an iPod screen? I’ll pass. I guess if Nike can re sell y’all the same “retro” jordans over and over .. then I guess it works for akai. This is a maxed out ren . Or a maxed out x. I’m gonna go buy a 3000 and call it one. And If akai keeps this up. It will be a matter of time before people start opening these new mpcs up and upgrading the ram themselves or worse hacking the software. If you have an X just keep that people. Don’t spend another $ 2,500 for ram.

Unfortunately the 2GB of RAM forms part of the main board and is a fixed amount which cannot be upgraded similar to newer Apple Macbooks.
