Just commenting to say I was replacing the pump on an 09 Chevy suburban 2500. It does not have the evaporative box, or the two hoses that would connect to it. It also doesn’t have a line going over any crossbar. I was able to remove the brackets holding the tank up, and use two light duty floor jacks too lower the tank, then I tilted it on its side, so I could easily see the fuel tank from the drivers side of the vehicle. The only lines/hoses I removed to do this, were the large rubber hose for filling the gas tank, and the line that connects the secondary tank. Once it was lowered, I could easily remove the fuel pump lines, and electrical connector and swap pumps. The vid was a big help, just wanted to clarify that for anyone else who might do an 09 and be confused by parts of the vid like I was.

TIP! If you are a schmuck (like me) and need to drop your gas tank while lying on your back underneath your vehicle.
I used 3 ratchet straps, 2 across the tank (in the factory, steel band locations and 1 pulled around the back of the tank. That third strap allows you to keep the tank from sliding rearward as you lower it. I used a jack to do the lowering and the straps as a limiter, to lift it back up, the straps did most of the work. (the straps also make it easier because you can move the jack out of your way if necessary. As you will see it is necessary to lower the tank to access the connections but you can't lower the tank until you disconnect them... Yeah, exactly!
Be very careful and lower it slowly! The fuel pump output has almost zero slack and the rollover (?) valve (large conn. on top at the back end of tank) passes over a cross member and therefore can easily be damaged (disconnect it before lowering more than an inch or so) . I used the bottom of a plastic water bottle and the factory hose clamp to keep fuel from pouring out of the filler tube after removing the hose.
The 3rd strap is the key, without it the tank will continually slide rearward and get hung up on the rear end and will try to slide off the jack. It's tedious since you have to, many times, release the straps and re-adjust but is better than breaking the connectors or dropping the tank. Good Luck!

Excellent video. I’m here after completing this today and your video was precise and I had no surprises. I did the fishing wire trick for the line inside the tank, that was super easy.
For anyone doing this in their driveway, do yourself a favor and just start out by removing the driveshaft. It takes 3 min to remove and gives you a TON of room to work and see everything.
I backed up onto ramps and jacked up the front drivers side frame. Plenty of room to work. I took my time and did this right at 2 hours. I didn’t think it would be a big job and it was way simpler than I thought.

Thanks for this video. I got mine done on the ground at home with 4 jack stands and 2 floor jacks to control the tank on the way down. I did it by myself, but would have been way easier with a helper working the jacks and helping me support things. Mine was super rusted and the lock ring wouldn't come off. I had to soak it with rust penetrate and had to buy the otc tool to get it off. My fuel pump still worked but was leaking on the top due to the extreme rust! It was so rusty the fuel supply hose wouldn't come off the fuel pump and had to be replaced. Fun stuff, but done. Thanks again for the video, it did help!

It’s the stainless steel one you connected back to the blue lock tab when reassembling. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. This message/question is geared to everyone. I have a 2011 yukon and I'm experiencing no power to my rear wiper, liftgate or rear widow defrost at first I thought was a fuse or relay but then I noticed that sort working intermittently so I think it might be a ground issue. Shoot me a line if you can give some direction thanks guys. As usual great video thanks again

On the install part, you mention to pass the vent hose over the bracket/crossmember..this is not the case for a 2012 suburban. It actually is formed to pass between the tank and where the rear strap bolts up. You will need to SLOWLY raise/tighten the bolt and CONSTANTLY check that the hose does not move and get squeezed.

How do you pump the fuel out of the tank using the fuel pump? This 2012 Denali with 6.2 motor has the Fuel System Control Module not a fuse or fuel pump relay. Everyone knows the tank is never empty when the pump fails so how do you get the gas out and make it easier to drop the tank?
