    I think that choppy hand-drawn animation is almost always better than smooth rig-based animation. It has so much more life to it.

      I agree, the end result of this looks incredibly awkward and stiff.

      High quality tween animation still should be appreciated.

      I prefer hand drawn animation over 2D rigging but 2D rigging requires a lot of work and should get props. A lot of shows out there are 2D rigged and some of them didn’t even look like it, it looks hand drawn. An example would be Star vs the forces of evil or Wonder over yonder

    tweening is simple.
    Tweening: In-Betweening
    Tweening means in-betweening.
    Simple as that.

    Tweening and symbol swapping are the lone animator's greatest ally, and most non animators can't tell the difference. Nice tutorial as always!

  • @Jazza
    @Jazza  12 лет назад +1

    you're right I should have clarified. In the tool thing on the left when you have bresh selected, there's a fill-type selection, and it's automatically set to pain-on-top. Change that to paint behind. I didn't know it existed for years, now I use it every day.

    I was looking for videos on tweening, cause I’d like to try and get into it/learn how to do it, but I *REALLY* was not expecting a 2010’s era Jazza video lmao.
    ((Edit: Now I also feel like I’m MORE confused on the topic than I was before. I think my first order of business is just going to be to find whatever program most people use for tweening smh.

  • @Jazza

    And in general I do use methods like that, but hey, I figured I'd keep the FBF and tween tutorials strictly to their method to teach them individually.

    When I tried this, I had to change them all to movie clips to animate them in motion tweens...
    Unsure what I did wrong. (Using CS 5.5)
    *Edit* Looks like I need to use Classic Tweens, and I was using Motion Tweens. Problem solved, but other questions now left unanswered...

    • @renanmuller8385
      @renanmuller8385 8 лет назад

    Hey Jazza! Just a quick question for a newby 2D animator. In your average scenario where you find yourself animating a walk cycle, do you find yourself using use tweens, frame by frame, or perhaps a combination of the two? I feel most drawn to frame by frame, but I could see how tweens would help speed up the process to make the more prominent details look really good in frame by frame. Thanks!

    This was really helpful! The center of gravity looks a bit off in the tweened animation, so that adds to why it looks a little strange compared to the frame-by-frame. But both definitely have their benefits and drawbacks! Thanks!

    Bone tool is a bad idea in Flash unless you're specifically using it for tails or tentacles. Unlike some other programs, If I'm not mistaken, Flash does not allow symbol swapping on bone rigs, which pretty much means that your bone rig is good for pretty much nothing beyond that one specific rigged set of symbols.

    BTW on motion tween one his feet slid across the floor because you can't redraw them, but FBF you obviously can, so they have a lot more.. bounce? Like his feet flap on the FBF which is more fun but on tweening it's sooo booring. Motion Tweening is good for some things like a bouncy ball or somethin, but I prefer FBF when it comes to animating characters.

    Regarding the control in the fbf verses the tweening, can't you actually replace the foot in the key frame, to show the bend in the foot and the rotation in the back forearm, then in the next key frame replace the foot and back forearm again to their original? Thus giving you that fully animated strut of the character.

  • @cartoonsausage4095

    Thanks this was helpful. I’ve been doing a lot of frame by frame animations and have been thinking about learning how to rig a character so it would be a bit quicker getting the animations done but still have a hard time with the stiffness of the character. I really don’t mind the frame by frame sometimes. For what I’m doing it just makes more sense to me to just draw everything but it does really suck to have to color in all the frames so I was wondering if rigging would save time with the coloring process? Again great video 👍 and thanks for sharing.
