Good video. Heads up the ship the two latches that tie down the cover with the nut on backwards. Save yourself 20 min by reading this.
Just installed mine this morning. I’m the least technical man I know, and I got it done in about an hour. Everything came correct out of the box with no broken parts. Going to take it through the car wash and see how it goes. It came with a sealing gasket, but doesn’t show where to put it. Will report back after going through the car wash. Love it so far…
Well?
@@adillon2four 2 months later and I’m loving it. Best upgrade to my F150 so far. I’ve gone through a high pressure car wash 1-2 times per week since then, and only get a few drops of water by the tailgate. Nothing bad enough to wet anything inside the bed. Glad I went with the Leer instead of the Backflip I was looking at.
@Stephen Selph I got the same one. Love it!
Yes, what is the damn gasket for?? I'm left with it in my hand wondering???
I recently purchased and installed the Leer HF650M quad-fold on my 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD. The installed cover looks awesome on my truck and the fit and finish of the cover shouts quality. Today, I finally ran the truck through the carwash and was pleasantly surprised by the scant amount of water that entered around the tailgate. There were just a couple of ingress streams that collected at both ends of the tailgate. The other areas along both sides of the bed and the forward bulkhead stayed bone dry. So far, I'm super satisfied with the cover and hope it performs well over time.
Thank you for sharing! We're happy you are satisfied!
Installed one of these on my 2021 Ranger a few weeks ago and pleased with it so far. Keeps the bed pretty dry, only water I've seen get in is at the tailgate area but not severe at all. Only negative is one of the prop rod storage clips was broken before using it, and contacting Leer about it hasn't yielded a response yet.
Thought I should update my experience as I did later receive a response from Leer and they sent replacement prop rod clips. They were even so kind to send some extras at no charge - very pleased!
Can the bed camera on an F150 Lightning still see over the cover when it is fully up? I want to see my cargo and trailer.
Just put my Leer HF650M tonneau cover on my 2016 Ford F150 6'7" bed yesterday. This Leer cover has great fit and finish, very easy to install, and a nice latch system, however, first rain on it last night and it leaked like a sieve!
Leaks at the end of every single hinge end as well as the bulkhead.
Now I know why other manufacturers are using a rail drainage system. I wanted to avoid a drainage system, but this Leet cover is not the answer!
So what did you do?
Any fix for the leaks?
Replacetit with another brand?
Just ordering a GMC 2021 3500HD Denali with a Multipro Tailgate and 6’ 10th bed. Will there be a Leer 650 for this truck soon. If not I’ll have to go with the Undercover Armorflex.
Love the tonneau cover but their customer service sucks. I purchased this cover over two months ago. Upon installation, the clip that holds the passenger side prop rod during storage broke. I contacted Leer who said they would send a replacement. Long story short I'm yet to receive the replacement after contacting them several times.
Ronald, we're sorry you had that experience. That isn't something we want to hear. Please email EAlvarez@truckgroup.com to inquire about the part. Have your order number ready. Thanks!
@@leertruckcapsandtonneaus2074I have and still have yet to receive it. They keep saying it gets sent back undeliverable but that wasn't a problem when I spent a thousand on the cover. It got delivered with no problem.
This seems to be a big problem, I see all over the web where people are complaining about the same broken part, and the same poor customer service for resolution. I have not bought my Lear cover yet and this is one of the reasons that makes me hesitate. Please see if you can do something to help the company rectify the customer service and the broken parts, thanks for your help.
My previous reply was meant for the Lear representative who posted to the comments above, sorry I didn't get it in the correct place
What's the differnece between this and the 350? How hard are these to break into?
Can the brackets and hardware be purchased separately?
Wondering what the evenly distributed weight capacity is. I am trying to decide between this and the Bakflip MX4. More info would be appreciated.
My local dealer recently told me that leer tends to be more reliable than bakflip if that helps
450lbs evenly distributed
Trying to install this with my truck but i only receive 6 brackets, not 8 for the rails. No phone number if bought off the site?
What positions is it OK to drive with it partially opened? 1/4 or 1/2?
Any idea what the weather stripping is for? No instructions or video that mentions it. 2021 GMC Sierra...
It goes under the front. I didn't install it because mine doesn't leak at the front. Just some at the tailgate, which is no big deal.
Installed on my 2021 F-150. Didn't install the tape at the front, but it doesn't leak at the front anyways. Some water does leak in at the tailgate, which isn't a big deal.
Any leak at the hinges like another user posted?
I fail to see the purpose of the temporary vertical screws that thread into the bottom of the clamps.
Great video
I noticed at the beginning of the video it showed a roll of some type of tape or seal. Is that for the bulkhead? I watched another video on this cover that leaked at the bulkhead, and he did not apply any type of seal or gasket on the bulkhead. Narrowed my purchase down to the Leer HF650M and the Undercover Armorflex, and hoping the material is for the bulkhead to help prevent leaks.
Yes, it goes at the front of the bed. I didn't install it on mine and it doesn't leak. 2021 F-150.
I was wondering why you didn't install it, I see many comments to say the same thing. If it's not needed I wonder why Lear includes it in the packaging..... Interesting
what is the max speed you can go on the highway with the cover foled all the way up
I ordered this for my Chevy Silverado, 1500 with the 5ft 8 inch bed. I fumbled with the instructions concerning clamping. The box had 7 of one style clamps and 2 of another style. There are no instructions which clamps to use where, however the paper instructions have a little diagram in the lower left corner showing what style of clamps are to be used for GM/Chevy. Well, that style is the type I only have two of. So....where do the 2 clamps go? The back? the front? I don't know. The video shows the clamp locations are to be beside the support ball, and another one near the joint of the rail. This is impossible on my Chevy, as the box support walls prevent any style of clamps in these areas. I finally just winged it and put the "GM/Chevy" style clamps in the rear, and used the other clamps wherever I could get them to fit. Nothing is even close to the clamp locations showed on the video, but it seems solid enough, so I will go with it. Oh, but I do have one clamp leftover. Did I miss something....or is this an extra? I have no idea.
Other issue, after installing the railing and putting the cover on, I discovered the thing barely touches the tailgate. If I slide it back, to where its overlapping the tailgate, then it is barely covering the front bulkhead. I mean its only over the bulkhead by 1/4 inch, and only over the tailgate by 1/4 inch. Why? Why can't this thing be 1 inch longer to actually cover and seal the interfacing edges?
I do not see how this thing will keep the weather out. Yes, the sides are sealed up pretty good, but the front and back, well, quite frankly its embarrassing. I am sure its going to leak.
I had the same problem with the Backflip mx4, it barely covers 1/4 inch front and back by the tailgate, so I returned it. I was about to order this one but I am glad I saw your comment.
I had the same issue. They sent 7 of the clamps that they say there are supposed to be 8 of and 2 extra clamps that are not shown in this video at all. Box says it's for the GMC (which is the model I ordered) however no instruction to install these pieces? Also they shipped the wrong size allen wrenches. For a company that is supposed to be 'top of the line' and high quality, they do a shitty job of quality control and telling the customer how to install their product
The clamp nearest the bulkhead looks nothing like that for this cover on the 2023 Super Duty.
how do you release the prop rods from the bed Is there a release button or do you just force the prop rod from the bed by force?
There is a small latch on the prop rod.
Is this compatible of use with a 2020 Ram Laramie 5.7 bed with the multifunction tailgate?
The cover is awesome but can’t get a response from customer service. The only way to contact them is through their website’s online form. The box was missing a clamp and one of rod prop clips was broken even though it was wrapped in foam.
I hate buying quality products with a company that has bad customer service, it sucks
I just go done install on 2021 f150 and it was pretty easy after watching the video.
Leer could do better job explaining the seals in the front (Bulkhead), one part of the seal goes on the vertical part of the bulkhead and the other lays on the horizontal part.
The other item is the clamping brackets lower bolt should only be finger tight as it is only to hold the pinch in place while tightening.
It cover seal seems to barely engage the tailgate, i would like it maybe an 3/4 inch longer
Other than that seems to be very good quality
Does it leak ?
I agree. The front rubber piece needs to be an extra 1” longer to insure there is no leakage.
WOW, After seeing all the bad comments I am not sure I want to purchase a LEER cover now. Missing parts, broken parts, Leaks, bad customer service. Poor fit etc.. Sounds like a fricken nightmare.
Exactly and this is my dilemma also and why I have not purchased my cover yet
I see your post was a year ago, what did you decide to do?
@@mikeoliver1031 I purchased one off ebay and it fit good. Not perfect but all the parts were there. Have had it almost a year and no problems. Still looks great.
@@HEHE-dx9ogGlad it's working for you! Thanks for the reply and info.... I'm still trying to decide
Thanks for making this a pain in the ass
We need details
Does it lock?
Good question
I was going to buy this bed cover because I wanted something more solid than the bak flip that gives you access to the whole bed but every single video has upset customers in the comment section because of customer service. Next
This exactly why I haven't bought this cover yet.
Couple with I'm not sure that I have a solution to make it work with a multifunction tailgate on my ram.
The option I have waiting for my decision is a under armor solid cover color match painted to the truck. That is exactly what my wife has on her 2016 ram longhorn,
I was hoping to have a high quality folding top to have access to an open bed when needed without having to remove the cover.
So after seeing all these complaints, and there are hundreds of them all over the web I'm left with the decision that I cannot buy this cover.
Took a few days to get through to customer service, what a pain in the ass, and time consuming. No response to email or return calls until finally got to talk to someone without getting the run around. Clamps must've fell out of the poor packaging. Looks like someone rolled it here from Indiana. I eventually got the clamps to find one has no threads for the alignment screw(I made it work). Rod clips were broke and replaced also. Not something you'd expect after paying $950
Same issue … horrible customer service!
I keep seeing this story over and over again, I have not purchased yet....... I can't decide on another cover that I want, but I hate dealing with companies with poor customer service after paying for a quality product that has flimsy little parts that break off before they're even installed, and no return calls no return emails no replacement of parts yada yada yada enough to piss a guy off
Noticed the second to the last panel does not have any latching system to lock it in place?? It just rests on the bed rails….???
Any answers??
@@jmich5123 No reply. I myself went with a Diamond Back cover. Oh well 🤷♂️🤣
@@SA-hk8xj hard to argue with that decision!! I wish they made a fold up, and it was easy to remove. Some People whine about how tall they are. I think they look bad ass.
@@jmich5123 Only takes a few minutes to unclamp the the center piece, and each panel just lifts off with ease. Price is the only issue, but after owning it for a while, it is worth it IMHO, and would recommend it to anyone. I definitely get more compliments on the cover than the truck itself 🤣
any plans on 2020 silverado 5'8" beds?
Yes. Soon! Please watch our website for updated info or please ask your local dealer. Thanks!
@@leertruckcapsandtonneaus2074 how does one go about getting replacement prop rod storage clips? One of mine was broken before I installed it.
Good luck, customer service sucks
DID NOT FIT. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. LEAVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND WE MIGHT GET BACK TO YOU. I just took delivery of an HF650M supposedly a perfect fit for my 2020 Ram 1500 5.7 bed. Costs $1000. Purchased direct from Leer on their Amazon store.Checked the label on the box and according to that, it's the right one for my truck. Checked all parts before starting the install and everything was in order. Watched the install video four times, easy enough to understand. Instructions in the box are absolutely horrible, but it's hard to screw up. Rails went on easy enough per the video, but the hard cover would not latch. Either one side fit and the other didn't. I made sure it wasn't off line, but the fit is 1/4" wider than the space between the two rails from front of the bed to the back. No matter what I tried, it will not fit between the rails. Someone got something terribly wrong on this one. All you get when you call Leer for help is voicemail and the message says they will call you back. Been four hours, still waiting. I guess I will return it through Amazon and forget about this brand.
Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same truck & was considering it. I like the finish on this but worry about durability. May be better off with the Armor flex...
Awful customer service.
I expected to place a simple phone call to communicate the clip holding the stabilizer arm is cheap and broke on my HF650M. Then be given an apology and replacement. That is what good customer service looks like. Despite multiple attempts through their website and multiple voicemail messages, I have yet to have anyone respond. Pretty sad and cost Leer a sale given my son was about to order their topper until I steered him another direction. My first and last Leer purchase!
Lost another sale too, because I was also going to buy this cover for my truck.
But after seeing all the complaints about the poor customer service, and the same broken part over and over hundreds of times all over the web, I am not about to go through all that myself after paying a lot of money for a product like that and have no customer service.
Leer you are going to have to do it much better job with your customer service. And when you realize from the feedback from your customers that the same part is broken over and over on multiple covers you need to get with quality control and fix the problem. You don't just keep sending out the same problem and do nothing about fixing the problem, or servicing your customers, you're a bad company!
Mine leaks at the seams. Costumer service is a joke. No replies to emails or calls. What a waste of money... and time!
I see this so much I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to buy a Lear for my truck, as much as I wanted a folding cover. I don't like any of the other brands that I see. My wife hasn't undercover on her 2016 Laramie longhorn. I love that cover it's great it's watertight you can walk on it it's an awesome cover. But I wanted to be able to have the flexibility of an open bed when I needed it without taking the cover off.
Yall really need separate instructions for different truck models. Especially one for the Tacoma. No mention of any of the included weather stripping.
Thanks Maddness42 for the feedback. We will get this to our Tonneau team!
I bet along with all the complaints about lack of customer response for broken and missing parts? Who's going to fix that, and when? I'm waiting for fixes to those problems before I buy my cover, I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait years ......
@@mikeoliver1031 Yeah, I've had it for just over a year now and I wish I'd have gone with a BakFlip cover. I had so much problem with leaking from the start, and nearly nothing I've tried eliminated it. It's even worse now that the crappy rubber has cracked. I'm about to resort to using a can of flexseal on it. I'm not looking forward to getting the runaround with customer support.
I had a bakflip for over 3 years and hardly had any issues, and the one issue I did have customer support was very helpful. The only reason I got a LEER this year is because of the new more secure locking system they have.
@@xxxxMaddnesSxxxx Thanks for the reply... Sorry you're having so many problems with it.
I think im gonna pass on getting a leer .... Gonna reevaluate my needs.....right now we have my wife's truck with a hardtop undercover on it it works great I love it, I just want to maintain the open bed requirement so that's why I was looking at a flip top. Right now I have no cover on my truck, I might just leave it that way. If and when I need a cover we can use my wife's truck. Thanks for your help, good luck to you!!
