  • Join Mike and Tom on a 3 day Adirondack bushwhacking adventure. The first day they hike from the Adirondack Loj to the Scott's Clearing Lean-to to setup basecamp. From there, they hike through Indian Pass to Summit Rock to enjoy great views of Wallface Mountain, Henderson Lake, Henderson Mountain, and the Santanoni Range.
Day 2 started wet for their bushwhack over the Shepard's Tooth to the summit of Iroquois Peak. They pair followed Cold Brook Trail to the start of the heard path over the Shepherd's Tooth. The winds were whipping on the summit forcing the pair to abort summiting Algonquin Peak. They did have a steep hike down the Algonquin Trail, one of the steepest marked trail in the Adirondacks.
The pair tackled MacNaughton Mountain on the last day. The rains did not stop making it a very wet and muddy hike. Mike and Tom followed the trail past Scott's Pond and Wallface Ponds picking up the heard path to the summit. MacNaughton is in most records above 4,000 feet and is sometimes considered the "47th" High Peak. Many ADK 46ers climb this after becoming a 46er.

Although these are two popular bushwhacks in the Adirondacks, they should only be attempted by experienced hikers with good navigation skills in the backcountry. As with every Adirondack hike, you need to be prepared with your 10 essentials including enough gear to spend a night on the mountain.

Agree. Unfortunately, too many people will dismiss the risk of exposure, injury, or having to spend a night out.

Thanks, the weather definitely limited the footage. As you saw, not much for the summit of MacNaughton. It was cold and wet, we just wanted to find the sign. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I think it is more that we live 6 hours away and try to pack as much in as we can no matter the weather. Thanks for watching!

Happy to be your wingman on an ugly but epic bushwack weekend. Loved the waterfall footage but could haved passed on flooded trails.

Epic adventure brother, your expert navigation made the bushwhacks a breeze. I vote for sunshine next time. But chances are good temps will be below zero!

Thanks Brian, I really appreciate the complements. Both hikes were awesome. I wish the weather would have been better. Going up the Shepherd's Tooth and summiting Iroquois with 40+ mph winds was pretty epic. I am also glad we found the sign on MacNaughton. It is deceiving on the maps.

Outside Chronicles Some of my favorite hikes were the ones with crazy weather. The crazy weather also made your Vlog in my opinion more interesting to watch. Maybe because I already know what all the views are so the weather gave me something exciting!! One of my favorites of yours so far

Brian_Hikes_All_Day as I said in the video, either I want a blue bird day or Mother Nature better bring it. The weather definitely added to this adventure and video.

I remember doing shepherds tooth on the way from Iroquois to Marshall. We lost the trail not too far past the Shepherd's tooth, so it wasn't an amazing experience haha. Could not imagine going up that bit but looks like you got the trail right! Another great video keep it up!

All through the magic of TV. We did OK. I wish we would have backtracked to the herd path. But with a map and compass, we intercepted the path after navigating a cliff. From other people's tracks, it looks like you can go either way around the cliff. Thanks for watching and thank you for the nice complement.

So you picked the only two rainy days we've had all summer? Great episode. Tabletop today, Iroquois tomorrow.

I know!!! I was there the previous week with my family and it rained one of the three days. Good luck on Iroquois. I orphaned it too, up and over Algonquin and Boundary to get there. Thanks for watching!

@@OutsideChronicles Had a good hike today. Started out cold and light rain. Once I got above the clouds on Algonquin it was sunny but really windy and cold. Missed the trail to Iroquois but only went about 10 minutes down the backside of Algonquin before I realized I was headed too far east. Otherwise fabulous day in the woods. I was thinking about your hike as I looked at Shepards tooth - bushwhacking through that thick piney bush seems impossible to me.

@@RDJim great job getting Iroquois! Bushwhacking is never easy!
