In this video, my good friend OJ diagnoses, repairs, modifies and tunes a totally mint 2000 E39 M5 and gains literally 139 wheel Horsepower. OJ started with BMW and then went on to open one of the coolest shops in the country, Fluid MotorUnion in Naperville Illinois.

Guess what my 409,000 Mile M5 made. Oh and what's Gregs car worth?
342 rwhp, 47k$
338whp, 60k
305 hp and his car is worth whatever Carmax will give.lol
About 350 Whp, And Ask Hoovie, he will overpay :P
320rwhp and his car is worth $39k
nice to see professionals actually fixing/improving cars, not just talking about it.
These two are the best :)
thats why we love LSC channel :D
Man I wish you could've added Greg's reaction to driving his car with the extra horsepower.
Was waiting for just this. Such a letdown
Greg hasn’t been seen in days. By tracing his credit card charges at gas stations we can se he has been making his way toward Germany for a blast on the autobahn.
Seriously, I’m totally stoked. It’s like the car I always dreamed it should be after seeing the BMW Guy Ritchie movie-ads when the car was new.
I wrote a song for OJ as well.
Having not noticed that he only had 200 horses for the last 3 years, I doubt he actually drove it any differently AFTER the tune either: how could you not notice your M5 was pumping out less power than a Golf GTi?
Orfan Productions when you look at the torque pre tune it was around 260-280 in the 2000-3000 range which was not terribly far from the tube torque in that range. If he was using it as a cruiser/weekend car it probably didn’t feel off in that lower rpm range which probably masked the problem.
I was really hoping we would get his initial impressions too.
@@johnbcardin Are you seriously trying to make excuses for this? That in 3 years of ownership - cruiser/weekend car or not - he never once accelerated past 2/3000 rpm? Yeah, ok man, you're right: it actually is totally understandable that he had no idea his car was 40% down on power the whole time.
I fkn love OJ man the man knows his stuff looking forward to the 400k Dyno run
Want to hear what Greg has to say after he drove his NEW M5.
That guy is the BMW Whisperer. He predicted what was going to happen before it actually happened every time. I wish I lived near to him.
E39 Guy here. Now this channel really is legit.
Same here! I have a carbon black 2003
We have a stable of e39s. Best chassis in my opinion.
I kept telling mechanics that my car was sluggish. Their response? "Oh hehehe you're just used to the power so it doesn't feel as fast."🙄😒
Great to see someone who knows what they are doing.
Mad respect to OJ and techs with this kind of brain.
Thank you!
Brian, Alex, I just watched this vid again cuz' I couldn't remember what was in it the first time I saw it. I literally got up out of my chair and genuflected to OJ as he made the last run. One of the best vids you have made! Bravo, bravo!
No word of a lie, my M5 had an Alpha N tune already but it generally was sluggish and very lacklustre to drive, even after fitting a 3.62 rear end. However once I'd done the IAT relocate mod and disconnected the MAFs, it genuinely started to come alive. It was improved for sure, but at the back of my mind, I thought maybe the cam sensors needed changing or something. But then today I wanted to replace my steering wheel, so I inadvertently reset the adaptations by disconnecting the battery. When I went for a drive in the evening, holy moly it really was a spectacular night and day difference. First gear is a blur and second gear gives me such a shove back in the seat that it brings a huge grin to my face. I wouldn't be surprised if my M5 showed similar gains on the dyno like this car here too.
Hoovies garage and his anemic e63 AMG needs to see this!
When they said, “It’s like you’ve been driving a 540i!” Hahaha only hurt a little bit, I’m okay. 😂😭
I felt attacked
I've had an e39 540i 6spd for 15 yrs. That comment hurt my soul.
Good news is, I pick up my e39 M5 tomorrow
Alex, thank you for bringing us some M5 content. I'm a AMG person myself but I've always loved the E39 M5 😍
0:51 Wingless GT3 RS...It’s Beautiful without the wing😍
the hp gains brought a tear to my eye 😢. this was a beautiful day
This is one of the most joyful videos I have watched for a long time. I truly hope people recognize what a master OJ is and take their business to him. It would have been nice to see what, if any difference cleaning the MAF sensors made before the delete and tune.
"...joyful..." I second that motion!!! Got misty-eyed watching the great camaraderie between all three of them!
Well OJ has a new customer for life! Love it when OJ is in the vids!!
Reaction video on the gain?!?! :D
Rasmus Werner Eliasson this please
man what a classy shop, grade A quality, skill, and knowledge
Make an addendum with him driving it, so we can see his reaction to 139 hp increase.
The first thing i would have done by such weak performance: air filter check, cleaning the needle in the air mass sensor with break cleaner, check the sparks, run the car with injection cleaner addtitive reset the ECU and teach them new.
You must have done this so many times. But next time, if you use brake cleaner, first make sure you look at the big words on the front of the can. Then you`ll know you`ve picked up the right can. Don`t ever use break cleaner. That`s terrible stuff.
@@pauljoe780 The small needle in the air flow sensor can only be cleaned with hard chemicals and break cleaner is perfect for this, you dont need much, just a short spay and after soaking a second. It´s just about get rid of the dirt film.
Coming from a lexus guy,
your bmw engine sounds beautiful
I normally don't hit the like button on RUclips. But I gotta say, this was cool. Well deserved the like. That's what experience looks like. Good Job, OJ.
....? And why not hit the like button on RUclips?
Lenwood Cruze he’s a bitter and doesn’t like to support anyone
We need his reaction of driving the car ..would've been awesome to see what he thinks after gettin that much power back !
I had a 2000 BMW M5 a few years ago- 2nd owner. Bought it from a Doctor up in Michigan. I recently sold it ... like a fool. Still a beautiful car.
That's just sick. OJ is the M5 Man. Great vid.
Hahaha! “You’re gonna drive easy, right?” “NO!”
Thumbnail says "Try this one trick, it only takes 10 seconds" then I open the video and it's a 16+ minute video 🤭🤣 Great video though 👍
My E39 M5 made the same 343WHP on the same dyno (DynoDynamics) with Alpha-N. Besides tune and rear mufflers my car is bone stock too. Great video proving the point of this channel once again: enthusiasts over stealers!
good to hear the feedback since people seem to dislike our dyno numbers!
oahgfojsdljknsdlfw Around 88k miles.
Amazing! Love the consistency.
My 01' 530i sport is sitting outside waiting for me to tinker with its MAF... I'll be back
Excellent vids mate keep it up !
These guys are akin to physicians diagnosing and treating a human ailment. Their knowledge and skills seem amazing!
Alex Always a pleasure to watch you go to your special place with these cars. This will educate lots of owners.
Awesome video and awesome results for your buddy Greg.
Not a BMW or Merc, but I had a faulty DPFE EGR sensor that didn't throw a code on a Ford. Always thought it didn't feel right power wise and boy was I right. Massive difference in power and MPG when I changed out that sensor.
Great video mate. I love the old school BMWs.
I own a few BMWs (e38 740i&e39 530i) myself and currently doing some major work on my E38 740i.
I would love to own an E39 M5, this has been my dream car since I was a child.
Very educational video. Keep up the good work.
The dyno guy is the bomb!
Thanks!
M5 owners best dream video !
Thanks for the info sure needed it .
mireliom sure is man!
Sweet Ride, Sweet Results, OJ is the Man!
"I'm gonna go home today, and my family is gonna write a song about you, and we will sing it" lmao
I teared up when I heard that... Wow, that was priceless!
OJ is what an excellent mechanic should be. Damn he's the man, props to him great job
Love to hear Greg's reactions to his 'new' car!
Oj is the freaking man!!!!! True freaking gem!!!
I wish I could get my e39 m5 serviced by OJ! I'm legitimately thinking of driving my m5 to Chicago from LA. 😂
Love the beemar content!!!! Greg is an awesome guy....
Awesome Video as usual, there was only one thing you forgot! I would have liked to seen even a five second clip of him driving the car for the first time after the tune. I can speculate that he was smiling like the Cheshire Cat and laughing like the Mad Hatter! Great job again!
Great video mate 👍
“Takes 10 seconds” uploads 16:36 long video
Haha Greg's M5 had a lazy life till that day
Awesome video . Real car people doing real car work and making real car talk
That's pretty awesome. You basically re-found about 75% more horsepower. That being said, that's one thing I both love and hate about the complicated electronics these days. You have to be an electrical engineer to diagnose and fix modern vehicles...
14:46
It's like you took the words right out of my mouth
Thank you for asking that question
It's great to see old cars showing the new kids on the block they still have it :-)
Best looking m5 ever in my opinion! Nice car man!
Great vid 👏🏽
The E39 M5 is definitely one of the best BMWs ever made
it is the best
Some say it's the last good one.
2003 m5 was the best bmw other than 2004 330xi 2001 740il. 2000 m3
I've got an E39 540 msport and an M5.. Best two cars ever..
@@gorrington007 yo that's cool
Loved seeing this I wonder what Gregg’s reaction on the road. Just shows like you said how important it is having a tune now and then.
I’d say yours with mods 300, and his cars worth approx $20,000?
OJ killing the game per usual. I should get a BMW to drive it over to Naperville :D
Hell yes amazing video new sub 👍
best car channel by far thanks
One of the best vid's done thus far, just awesome. Would have nailed it if a real life drive with the owner was done for comparision.
One of the BEST BMW M series videos ever done!
OJ is awesome!!!
Like the video. We needed to see the owner's reaction to driving the car with the new tune.!!
OJ is the MVP!
This dude LEGIT
As a Pro Detailer, I know Jason at Chicago Auto Pro's where he works at. Also do I see a dual head rear laser jammers over the rear plate?
Why not try swap swapping the mass airflow meters from your car?
I have been in that shop with my e92 m3. Great people!
I wanted to see him drive it for the first time! Lol
I want part 2 rn asap
What a great video!
Great video just wish they would tighten those rear straps, waaaaay too much movement and slack in the rear. It’s coming off of the rear roller
Show us reaction video with his first ride after the dyno session! Please
This man OJ is a jam to listen to, and thanx to you Alex for featuring him every time, im now subbed for he's channel, but your collabs (here in LSC channel are better).
Wish he wasn’t so far away, need to get my e39 m5 to OJ!
It's nice to take your car to someone who actually knows what there talking about
Outstanding.
Love your car dude. I have a 1998 5 series Hamann Motorsport edition. Except mines still a I6 with performance tuning. :)
OJ, OJ, OJ. One sharp dude.
Alex is as stoked about his friend's power gain as I'm sure he'd be if it was his own machine. That's a very nice trait to see in someone.
Brent from PFI it's also a good tuner
Hmm I need a mechanic like this guy 👍
Greg "My car just doesn't feel right."
OJ = Beast mode activated.
- You're gonna drive very easy right ?
- NOPE !
X))
Would have loved to hear Greg's impressions after 1st drive !!!!!
He does have a great way of explaining it
I've had two E39 M5 and both had dirty MAF's. To check the status of the engine power output you can use the service menu in the instrument cluster (google it). Find the real time liter/hour measurement. At full throttle in 3rd gear (or whatever gear) at max rpm it should consume about 160 liters/hour. Mine did 100 liters/hour. I cleaned the MAF's and it was restored to 160l/h and surely felt quicker.
OJ is a boss!
Makes me want ti drive to chicago to get OJ to tune my car. Fantastic!
OJ is the dude !!!
I would have liked to see a before and after with him driving it and his reaction to the tune
That’s awesome, please create a clone of OJ and ship him to England! what a legend.
OJ is a God!!
That's amazing, should have gotten the guys's driving impressions after the gains!
Hey Alex great video, wich adaption did oj reset? He said the ecu... But I can't find any way to reset the ecu with the bmw inpa software. Only mass air flow or lambda... Could you please explain what exactly he did? Maybe you could do a video with oj .. 😉
OJ is a total bad ass!!
We soooo needed to see that guy drive it.
Well done guy's
Great video!!! I need to make alfa tune for my car also:))
Oj is the friggin man.
