Hello ! I'm about to buy an iPad (pro or air, I don't know yet) and I'm still a little hesitant.
In fact, I felt a little lost and then I discovered your video by chance. A real delight.
You share your use cases with so much simplicity and authenticity. All of this is much more refreshing than the dozens of tech reviews I've watched in recent weeks.
    Thank you so much! 🙏

Thank you: that's made my day. Do let me know if you buy an iPad, and what you think of it if you do. I hope you get at least as much out of one as I continue to.

If you’re hesitant, get the air. It’s more than powerful enough to do whatever you need without being as expensive.
That way, you can find out for cheaper whether you like the ipad or not, before jumping into the Pro-est option.
And after a year or 2 with the air, there’s bound to be an even juicier Pro waiting ready for you!

@@Tommy-sx9kg I am a big fan of iPad for a long time (since the iPad mini 2). In few months I will have the need to replace my laptop for something that allow me to do more than writing stuff, create slideshows and educational content for my students. Especially, I need something that allow me to draw.
I pretty sure that the new iPad could be a good alternative for me because it seems to be the perfect hybrid tool.
And yes you are right, I think the iPad Air has enough power but I want to know how the Apple Intelligence will work on it before going for it instead of the Pro.

I, too, have been trying to find more uses for my iPad that are related to my writing. I was disappointed, early on, that I didn’t find it as useful for my writing as I had hoped. I had intended to use Scrivener on it, but I had some syncing issues, so I sat that aside for a while. But I’ve come back to it, recently, when I decided on a screenplay to work on, mostly on the iPad. And this week I created a blank Syd Fields-style paradigm page for screenplays that I hoped I could fill in with the Apple Pencil, and that kind of works. So I’m starting to find some good uses for my iPad, which is great.
I get what you’re saying about the Magic Keyboard for the iPad. That does almost make it impossible to use the iPad in portrait mode. So I bought a Smart Folio cover, too, which is great for portrait mode, and I switch off, as needed. Whichever one is not in use is always in the shoulder bag that I bought to carry my iPad, and I just switch from the folio to the Magic Keyboard, or visa versa, as needed.

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  4 месяца назад

I didn't like the feel of the Smart Folio, though. I take it you're fine with it? I used to carry around a separate Logitech external keyboard which wasn't as handy as either of these, but worked well otherwise.

Some time ago my iPad Mini v6 stopped working - the screen stopped responding to my touch. I went through all the support pages on what to do, but nothing revived it. I set it on my desk so when I got a moment I could research getting it repaired. Today turned out to be that day. It was out of warranty so it would cost about 4/5s of what a new one would be. And then I realised that it wasn't that great for me. Small. Hard to read and very hard to hit the right things - too easy to hit the wrong ones. I bought an iPad Air a few months ago to use in the office and love it. I've been transporting it back and forth between the office and girl cave ever since the Mini broke. So I bought another Air, but this one is the latest model with the M2 chip. The office one 'just' has the M1 chip. So I'll probably switch so the office gets the newer one. Naturally I have to wait for it to arrive in Australia, but that will give me something nice to look forward to over the next couple of weeks.

I’ve been thinking about this since you asked. I think in all practicality, the 11-inch is most often the best size. I had a 12.9-inch iPad Pro in 2015 and it was fantastic but just too big to be convenient. I do miss that larger size, though. To the extent that when I was costing all of this out, I decided I wouldn’t want to trade in my current 11-inch 2022 iPad Pro, I’d rather have two. I’m not buying after all, not now, but I think whenever I do in the future, that’s probably what I’ll try.

  • @karinhart489

For a long time I had iPad covers that could rotate between portrait & landscape, but without a keyboard because I still had an PowerBook Air I used sometimes. Then I had an iPad with a cover/keyboard that detaches from Apple, but I didn’t think the keyboard was well made & it kind of wore out. These past 2 iPads I’ve used a cover keyboard from Logitech, which I found much better made & flexible because the keyboard also detaches via magnets. I no longer use a laptop & can do most everything on the iPad. I prefer reading news articles from the NYT & WaPo via their well written iPad apps. I previously had used Flipboard extensively but a few iPads ago something changed in making it less fluid to read articles. I prefer reading ebooks on the iPad too compared to phone. Not sure there are upgrades in next iPad to trade this one (9th generation) to it.

if i was to buy an ipad air as my main writing device would you say that the 11” is a big enough screen for that purpose or would the 13” be a better option? (i’m looking to replace my macbook air but i think i better understand the operating system of ios devices rather than mac devices)

The 11-inch is the best compromise between screen size and portability. I adored having a 12.9-inch model a few years ago, but I can take my 11-inch anywhere and that's a huge advantage.
