Flaming Lips make cerebral, lovely, theatrical, psychedelic, soulful, artistic, beautiful, creative music. It's art. Thank God for the songs, as they have brought beauty, a soul to soul connection for many folks through their tunes.
I remember going to see the Lips while in college with a couple of friends way way back in the day. We loved them so much we eventually made a band and would cover a few of their songs. Made an album then separated. Moved to different cities and took different paths in life. Hearing Wayne now it brings me back is like they were always here. A window into this fantasy world i forgotten about
Met these guys 3 times so far...Once after they opened for butthole surfers, once at a record store BEFORE they opened for candlebox (remember them? I don't) and once after they played with beck...EVERY time SO GRACIOUS. NICEST PEOPLE YOU'LL MEET. They even took my demos every time I met them.
Great description! I find this interesting because my life has been somewhat parallel with this story. makes it relatable. Thank you for putting these songs into the universe!
What the fuck are all those spamming comments below, same picture for different accounts, obviously sexual-related stuff ?!?! Aside from that, the new Lips is their best work since... mmmmmmh... EMBRYONIC, perhaps ? Seriously, a gem. Funny how the Lips drop gorgeous albums either at the end (THE SOFT BULLETIN, EMBRYONIC) or at the beginning (IN A PRIEST DRIVEN AMBULANCE, AMERICAN HEAD) of each decade...
Very cool, interesting, mind numbingly sad album but I think that "God and the Policeman" is one of the weaker songs on this great album. This story that Wayne's song is based "loosely on" is vastly more interesting than the song, hmmmm? Enough info to probably research this out.
Jake and Nicholas have awesome politics if you follow them on Instagram. I think it is a generational divide with Steven? Like his heart is in the right place but he is a Liberal dad about it...
@@shawnapdx could be a generational thing. I'm not a Republican, or any other party for that matter, but Harris was literally locking people up for drug use. I know Steven had serious issues with drugs so maybe that plays a role in it (maybe he's super anti drug now and thinks drug users should be locked up?). But really I don't see how a person who had an addiction issue could support punishing drug addicts. And not just drug addicts but drug users in general. People should be free to do what they want to do.
He wore it ironically. God & the policeman/Kamala Harris is a cop- ? She especially liked dropping the hammer on drug users... the Democratic party has gone full anti-anything remotely forward thinking.

This is one of my favorite songs on the album for sure. The piano part is so good. Great to listen to while driving around late at night.

Isnt wayne describing the plot of Les Miserables? 😄
Still disappointed with Steven's shirt on the late night show... She was locking people up and keeping them imprisoned for drug use.
I agree . She is not a good person . Biden and Harris is just a return back to the same ole same ole not a revolution like we need .

The song is less than 3 minutes long. Musgrave must have been rubbing her hands to make a few thousand dollars 💵
First.
