Nice piece, enjoy it ! I saved money for a few years and bought a used 1967 one 5 years ago. I really wanted an old 321 as I was 8 years old when Apollo 11 went to the moon, and like millions of kids, I watched the images in awe, speechless, on a black and white TV at my grandma's in July 1969. It is for these memories that it had to be a 321 from back then. I didn't have tons of money, so I added 3 old small watches in the deal, and the dealer sold me the 321 at a good price. Dream come true. In 2022, I had it fully serviced by a retired Omega watchmaker who specialized in 321s. Today, it is my most cherished piece with my dad's old 1984 Datejust.
They still sell them with Hesalite "crystal" today. Bought one 1 week ago. Ref. 311.30.42.30.01.005. Features a steel base back and Caliber 1861. They do sell a different version of the Speedie though featuring Sapphire crystal, even Sapphire "sandwich" (crystal plus see-through case back). Ref. 311.30.42.30.01.006 and Caiber 1863.
What sucks is that I really want this watch but now they go for 4-5k when they used to be less than 2k five years ago. I was still in high school then but I wish I could have purchased it.
I don’t mean to be all snobby and correct you, but there were a few hundred tritium speedmasters that used the 1861 movement (dated after this watch) and also had a tritium dial. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
The only drawback is how a tritium dial might age. Most dials get that dirty patina. Omega tritium does not age as well. The more even yellow/cream clean patina (matching dial hands) the more you will pay.
I am not really a Speedmaster pro guy myself as well and have a love/hate relation with it. I've had a couple in the past and both were catch and release. However I recently just acquired a 1969 Speedy pro ref. 145.022-69 for an insane price and I am torn between selling and keeping.
my dad just gave his old 1978 version. its currently with omega being serviced. it was in good condition and still ticked which suprised me. i remember he used to wear it swimming which is my question. are the new versions not as water proof as the old ones as you mentioned it only water resistant?
dr unken the new versions are actually more waterproof than the old versions (30m vs 50m). Keep in mind the crown and pushers are not screw down. So you are relying solely on a gasket to keep water out. That’s why it’s not recommended to swim with them (new or old).
well, up to this day, i v never believed a human being set foot in moon period. yet, i m still contemplation this moonwatch purchase. it s got the looks, though, reason why.

You are correct. Sorry I misspoke
Really enjoyed that. Good to get a deep dive on a particular reference.
Thanks! Just trying to share the info I had when I did the research.
@@KellenTheTime It was well worth it! Great watch.
I received a 861 Speedmaster in 1971 as a gift from my parents. It cost $190 and I still have it.
I’ll double your money. $400
@@KellenTheTime Let me think on it for a bit.
fake

David Abraham what references. Please list them 😂
Kellen The Time the early 3570.50s had tritium dials. Up until around 1997
David Abraham weren’t the early 3570’s produced in 96? So you had one year of one reference outside of the 3590’s like I mentioned.
Kellen The Time 97, but close enough. I thought you said this was the last tritium reference.

What’s your view of the speedy ref 323.10.40.40.02.001

What did you end up doing ?

@@KellenTheTime oh ok, i see now. when i get the watch back from omega do you mind if i pick your brain about its rough value?
Love the Speedy just bought myself a speedy automatic date (reverse panda ref#3511.50) congrats man!
Nice pick up
Kellen The Time - Thank you!
I think release of the new 3861 calibre has made all legacy speedmasters go up in price now
I heard you say this is the last year they made it with tritium, but I didn't hear you say what year that was.
What year is this watch from?
early 90's
