    I have had my Omega speedmaster for 43 years ( buying it new in 1975). I have it worn every day, and in that time it has not let me down once.

      Didn't see much a review of the watch. More like a 10 minute history of his individual piece.

    I’ve had a 321 Calibre and have worn it daily for 50 years, including USAF combat missions during Vietnam. It started to loose accuracy about a year ago. It kept getting worse and have had to have it serviced for the first time. Great watch!

      Hi Alan that information would make a great upload. If you ever wanted to make one about your speedmaster or maybe capturing that story in an interview I would love to create a video around it. Do you have any photos of the watch during your service in the air force? You can contact me at thecasualwatchreviewer@gmail.com

      My Dad bought his when he was in the USAF also at the BX at RAF Bentwaters, I believe as it could have been Mildenhall or Lakenheath, in 1976. He gave it to me after he retired in 1992. I wear it daily. It's only been back to Omega in Switzerland once in 1996 for cleaning and servicing. I'm still using the original 1171/633 bracelet. It's starting to lose about 30 seconds a day now, but my local Omega dealer has quoted anywhere from 6 months to full year for Omega Switzerland to do services because of backlog. I just can't bear to be without it for that long. In 1996, the three month wait was too long.

    The Speedmaster moon watch FOIS is my ultimate Grail piece. I'm a child of the early 70s and grew up watching the Apollo space program so that watch has a special connection to those times in my childhood that filled me with perfect wonder. It's a perfect all around watch. Dressed up or down, it's all good. Thanks for this video

    I really like your video. I think that the stories in the comments of Speedmaster videos are even better. I love hearing about people who have worn their Speedmaster for decades and all their great memories with the watch. I dream of owning one but unfortunately they’re out of my budget as I’m 23 and currently investing all my money in my new business. I really love the community that has formed around this legendary watch. All the best from Bulgaria!

    I bought my Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch via eBay in 2009. The original owner bought in new in 2000 and reportedly left in in the safe most of the time. Thank goodness he saved the box, papers and extra links, as my wrist is bigger than his. I too kept it mostly in a safe until 2016 or so when I began wearing it to work every day. It needs a service, has a few scratches especially on the clasp, but is in otherwise lovely shape. This was my dream watch, and I feel blessed to have it! Great video, thanks for sharing!

      Yep that was a true tool watch, it looks pretty now but it has been through many of life's adventures. I remember the first time I learned it only had 30 metres water resistance. I just thought back of being in the wave pool at a Disneyworld waterpark years before giving the water resistance no mind... ooops!

    It makes me really happy to see one of these used like this. Every time I buy a nice watch, I'm immensely paranoid to damage it and obsess over little scuffs and such. That's why I only buy used watches, so that helps me avoid the dread of the first bit of damage, haha.
    I had a speedy reduced (still do, but it's in for service) and wanted a moonwatch for a while, but the price was always a bit much, and I thought perhaps it would be too big for my wrist - but I finally picked up up and I'm really glad I did. Folks that say it wears big are not really correct, even on my smallish wrists it wears really nicely. The only problem I have with the watch is that it's a pain to wind since the crown is hard to access. So far, winding upside down seems to work well.

    None hacking movement.
    Poor water proofing.
    Not antimagnetic.
    Low quality lume.
    No fine adjustment on bracelet.
    Overpriced.
    That said it's a classic and I want one
    Great review of an iconic watch.

      The Casual Watch Reviewer thank you, it really was an excellent reveiw. So much so I went out today and bought one! It doesn't quite have the top end feel that my smp bond has, but it's such an iconic piece and sits beautifully on the wrist.
      Many thanks for the kind reply.

      @SCTitan06 7 лет назад +3

      I can't agree with you on the lume. My speedy pro is a newer model made last year and the lume is great imo. They are trying to continue making them as per the original specs - not updating them to be the most modern materials, movements, etc. That's the whole point in buying the pro - you get close to the ones worn in space. Otherwise, why buy the pro? I never wore mine on the bracelet - swapped it for a black nato with silver stripes and it looks excellent.

    The Speedmaster Professional is my daily watch and I love it. I just have the "normal" modern version. The hesalite front and display caseback that you have is the ultimate Speedmaster to me. Best of both worlds. I hate that when buying new, you are forced to decide between the hesalite or the open caseback.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  5 лет назад

    Great story about the history of your speedy and you can really tell how much you love this watch from the enthusiasm in your voice. After 10 years I suspect its going to be a keeper for you?
    I have the newer version with the presentation box(more like a suitcase actually😆) I was born in 1969 so like many of this era I was also captivated my nasa's space projects as a kid. The number of the calibre 1861 also has a special connection to me so the watch is a lifetime keeper which will be passed on to my son....lucky lad!! I don't wear it every day but I don't just wear it on special occasions either and it looks great on any strap which you can't say about many watches. It trumps the submariner in that respect and has a more iconic history imo. In the world of watch keeping it's the thinking mans Grail. Take care, Andy.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Andy, thanks so much for commenting. I really like that suitcase box the watch now comes in. I even thought about buying just the box but I couldn't justify it. Yes I will keep this watch, I think you are right about the Rolex. The Speedmaster is also less common, by that I mean you don't see many in the wild!

    One thing I would like to hear more about in videos from the watch community, is the experiences of budgeting and decision making before making a purchase. I don't consider myself a person of limited means, but purchasing a watch for a collection can certainly weigh heavily on my financial conscience. How many time telling devices does one need? I think the mantra of slow and steady should be pushed out there a bit more as well. All of the watch porn on RUclips has given me dopamine dysfunction, lol.

    Love it. These cost about the same as Monaco and a little more than the autavia then you see the fools price of a daytona. Nuff said. Love the simplistic look of the speed master. I have the autavia about the same age as yours, the Monaco is just a bit ott unless you're Steve mcqueen, never had a thing done to it ever. I doubt if the mecha quartz look alikes will even make 10 months. Excellent post.

    I've had mine for 23 years and I've never had it serviced. Omega says that it should be serviced every 5-8 years but instead I followed the rule "If it isn't broken don't fix it". My local dealer says that sooner or later it will break down and in the end it will cost me a fortune. The fact is that up to now I've saved 2760 euros (In Italy Omega charges 690 Euros to have a mechanical chronograph serviced). I really don't Know what to do. Any advice?

      My Speedmaster Professional is a 1969 model with the 861 Lemania Calibre. It is my favorite watch I've ever owned, but it is not as good as keeping time as you describe. I've had it serviced twice, for maintenance purposes, since 1969 by Omega, but it's only accurate to about a minute every week or so. I don't care because I constantly hack the time to the iPhone satellite clock, which is basically an atomic clock, during my winding ritual. BTW, the watch is easily "hackable". See my comment on how to do this Omega approved procedure below in response to someone who said the watch can't be hacked. It's very easy to do.
      Of course, I had to buy the Bulova "David Scott" Apollo 15 "replica" simply because it is the only other "moon watch" worn on the moon. The Bulova is accurate to about one second per every 3 months, in my experience. The Bulova has a 262 kHz timing crystal known as the "precisionist" movement. I paid about $375 for it new almost two years ago when it first came out. It's a little too large, IMHO, but for the money, you can't get a more accurate watch that can also be called a "moon watch".
      However, there is no comparison between the Bulova and the Speedmaster for quality and historic value. I love my 1969 pre-Apollo 11 Speedy. When I got it as a BD gift, I never would have guessed it would go on to have such a reputation. It was slightly large for it's time back in the late sixties, and many people pointed out that "my watch stopped working" because of the sweep second hand on the Chronograph was usually in the vertical position.
      Wow, I was a teenager with a Speedy back in the day and never knew that what I was wearing would someday become a classic.
      Yeah, I have a few bragging rights here, but who wouldn't take advantage of them?

    • @tapemaster8252
      @tapemaster8252 7 лет назад

      daffidavit indeed you do have bragging rights, I bought one the new Accutrons with the precisionist movement , I have the Alpha model, great watch but not as precise as an original, although the old ones drain the battery way to fast. This was good, I you pass your watches on to someone who shares the passion!

  • @thelonious-dx9vi

    It all boils down to the fact that you still love the watch ten years later. I've been bouncing back and forth between one of these (probably sapphire but still mulling it) and an El Primero ... thinking whether to go with the herd or not. I do feel that a chrono ought to have some horology vibe, and other than these two it's mainly all brought-in Valjoux 7750's ... or drop the price of a new Camry. I would definitely buy a Lange before I'd buy a Camry, but that's beside the point. Does anyone know if the sapphire sandwich crystal can be swapped out for hesalite, or vice versa? I think I'll end up with MOTFM, and it surely won't be for lack of having considered the alternatives. The way you still feel about it, ten years on ... that's the piece that sticks for me ... cheers.

    I have a 2002 Speed-Master triple date, smaller size, 38mm, love the watch, love the bracelet especially although changing links is a task. Overall, great watch keeps time to within two seconds per day. That Speed-Master has gotten notice, and several people recognized it for what it is. My Rolex Daytona, no one has ever noticed enough to comment as well as my Rolex Sea-Dweller. My daughter wore the Sea-Dweller, and some guy commented that it was a very nice watch, but I asked her if he knew it was a Rolex, she said no.

      Hi Rynr, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm a big fan of the speedmaster as you can tell from the video. Its funny what you say about watches not getting noticed. What is annoying for me is I have been wearing an Invicta for an upcoming video I'm doing and that gets noticed more than any of my other watches.

    Great to get an honest real life long term review! Glad Omega quality has been up in the last 10 yrs then. The handwinding professional is the "purest" Speedy really. Still its shocking how unreliable many supposedly "premium" Swiss watch brands are (I've had a few). When they changed their industry into a "luxury" business in the 90's and early 2000's quality simply was not on par with the price tag, but I guess that was the price to pay after years of cutbacks and the fact that very few of the famous brands have anything in common to what and who they were at their hight in the 60's and early 70's.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  5 лет назад

      Yes, I can see your point there. Omega certainly was more of a dress watch company back then or should I saw a 'watch' company but what we would consider a dress watch now!

      Yep I have heard that but I don’t know how true it is honestly the small seconds look cool on this one so i bet you will maybe just run the chrono for a bit but just use the small seconds. It doesnt hack so your small seconds and chrono will be off the exact time

      I would say to look for a reputable seller, I got mine on ebay and if you pay via paypal you do have a lot of protections. Also the speedmaster is a very hard watch to Fake, thats why you hardly ever see them. Its not like a Rolex that everyone is fighting to copy. Also there are that many variations of it you can find one you really like. I can guarantee with exceptions of the watch forums you will never see them out in the wild, thats what makes them so great. You can also get the serial number verified by Omega by emailing them. I thought they had stopped doing that but another viewer said he was successful recently.

      Hesalite wll scratch from the friction of your coat or shirt cuff. Its a very soft material in terms of scratching. If your at all concerned about scratching the crystal its not the material you want to look for. The scratches can be polished out very easily however and you get used to it. I would never buy a watch with Hesalite again.

    What's the reference number on this model? Does it use tritium?

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  7 лет назад +1

      Hi, thanks for commenting, its Speedmaster pro 'Moonwatch' 3572.50.00, I'm not 100% sure but I think it will be TRITIUM due to its age.

    Great video mate, please goto a watch hospital at very least and get the pin replaced as paper clips are mild steel (imagine if it came off and you didn't notice). As for your stainless steel buckle, get a plastic kitchen pad scrubber, non metallic. Under running water keep on rubbing in the brushed direction. This gives it a near factory finish. My 300M has been worn daily for 11 years and my jewellers (beaver Brooke's and goldsmiths) said it was in fantastic condition.

      Hey, thanks for the advice on the buckle polishing... I will give that a go! as for the paperclip, I will never change it... its part of the watches history now and made for a great story... also its superglued in!

      Hi Stuart, they don't do the number check thing any more they ask you to pay for a 'history' check or something. Very annoying.

    Accuracy? How much Seconds per day?

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  6 лет назад

      I have not timed it for a few years but I will gain, it was within a few seconds last time. I will time it and maybe make a video on it for you.

      It was in pretty rough shape! I got it serviced after this then sold it. Loved it over the years but time to say goodbye!

    I bought my Omega Speedmaster around 1990 on ebay from a Japanese seller, shipped to California. It is the older version with the closed back FLIGHT QUALIFIED BY NASA FOR ALL SPACE MISSIONS etc with the Omega horse engraving., Around 2000 I suspected that it was slowing down, losing about 30 sec per day and I was going to get it serviced. I couldn't justify the $500 service from a private non Omega certified service person so I put it away. I suspected that I got it too close to a high field 400MHz nmr magnet pole and magnetized it. Recently I took it out of storage to check it and the accuracy seemed pretty good maybe 5 sec slow per day so I started wearing it again. I need to add a link to the bracelet and it has the non screwable connectors for the links. I heard that Omega shops will add links for free so I am going to see if that is true since I have spare links that came with the watch. Maybe the shop can also check the accuracy on their instrument if they have one also for a fee.

    10 years on the wrist or in the box? I hardly see a scratch on the watch and Nato strap is still hard like new.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Arif, I think I show a lot of the scratches in the video actually? Also I change the strap frequently, the NATO has not been on it for that long. In fact it has mostly been kept on the metal strap, the one I talk about breaking. I think you should be able to clearly see the scratches in the hesalite I also talk about damaging that. Did you watch the video all the way through? Also I didn't get the original box.

      Hi Matt, thanks for watching. Yep they wanted to replace the entire clasp, and I liked it for all its scars! so I thought may as well give it a go and it has lasted at least 4-5 years. I only recently (within a year) wore it on a NATO. Thanks for commenting and subscribing.
