    Harpsichords are wonderful instruments and after you have heard Bach on a harpsichord, listening to it again on Piano is very disappointing

    I've said it once and I'll say it again: the harpsichord is HIGHLY HIGHLY underappreciated!

      Especially when pieces that were written in the Baroque era end up being played on a, dare I say, piano. The biting, angry, to the point sound of the harpsichord is unmatched!!!!

      Agree with you all. I’ve only played a single manual but it just doesn’t match the virtuoso of a double manual though (I know about its mechanisms). Playing a double manual baroque harpsichord (not revival) is high up on my bucket list.

    I’ll be honest, I don’t think the piano could do the Bach inventions justice like the harpsichord can

      У клавесина особенностей больше чем у фортепиано. Например на клавесине тяжело сделать стокато. Его модно сделать но не слышно почти

    Beautifully executed and recorded. Gould's supersonic piano version looms large, but the harpsichord is the instrument for Bach when played by a musician of this skill and emotion.

      @@LeonartMusic Not at all, the sound is fine. It was just the tempo. I tend to play this one just a shade slower as, on my very modest digital piano, some of the harmonies are more obvious that way. Listening again to this version, I can see it works on that lovely instrument. It was probably my familiarity with other slightly slower interpretations unfairly skewing the experience. You executed it brilliantly and brightly. Sorry if I came across as critical, that was not my intention.

    • @LeonartMusic
      @LeonartMusic  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for your elaboration! I definitely can see playing it slower and also did on a number of occasions - I‘ve been using these pieces as warm-up exercises. For the recording i wanted to tune up to the max and play them as brilliant as the music is able to support it, hence the tempo decision.

    Would Bach have used a harpsichord or a piano in today's world? Did he have a preference?
    My preference is the elegant, tinny sound of the harpsichord. In today's world, for some reason, it's okay to destroy the beautiful integrity of the harpsichord by playing music that was designed for the harpsichord to be bastardized by the (hold your breath) piano. Yeah, I said it. To hear this invention played on the piano strikes my core. For revenge ( depending on your degree of anger ) I want to hear Chopin, Liszt and keyboard works on harpsichord that were written and designed for the piano. Kind of a revenge (against the man) so to speak. Who's with me? Not that the change of instrument would sound better or worse, but the sole purpose would be to hear the piano world's gasp as if a blasphemous act had been performed. Well, in reverse, that's how I feel about using the piano where it doesn't belong. Just to shake the pillars a little, if you know what I mean. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, our return to the piano will be momentarily................

      Bach was something of a technician (an early proponent of equal temprament, for example.)
      I think today he would have used just about every instrument he knew about; whatever suited the particular piece.
