    leah4sci.com/naming-organic-co... Presents Naming Organic Compounds Part 2
    This Leah4sci Tutorial continues to address the concept of naming organic compounds including the theory, methods, and steps for naming multi-substituted and branched alkyl substituents. Part 2 of a multi-video series, this video addresses naming compounds that have multiple of the same or mixed alkyl substituents, and the long and short way of naming branched substituents. Future videos will take you through naming multi-substituted alkanes, functional groups, alkenes, alkynes, and cyclic organic compounds.
    Many students struggle with organic chemistry because they try to memorize rather than understand the concepts and mechanisms. My goal is to break down the concepts so that you can understand and apply them to your homework, quizzes and exams
    If you enjoyed this video please show your appreciation by giving it a thumbs up; and subscribe to my channel for quick access to all new tutorial uploads
    I will be creating quizzes to help you study the concepts in this quiz. These will be available on my website shortly

    Ms. Fisch I'm trying to learn this on my own with your help and God has gifted you to TEACH. I'm changing careers and have gone back to college and my college teacher did NOT explain it so gracefully and plainly like you. I pray that you receive a special blessing for blessing us with TRUE TEACHING.

    first and foremost ur videos are absolutely helpful ..N ur explanation is very easy to be understood as well ...u r really producing a notable effort ..i personally appropriate it ...but i only have a small inquiry ....the problem at 8:40 ..u ve named the forth substituent as 4(1-methylethyl) ...but what i know ...ethyl should be placed before methyl (according to the alphabetical order)if i am not mistaken !!!..thanx again

  • @androideart
    @androideart 8 лет назад

    Leah, on min 11:33 I find both, bottom left , and bottom center to be exactly the same but flipped, how can I know the difference, they both seem to have a 4 carbon chain with methyl on 2nd carbon, Why are they different? Thank you

    At 3:43 where if you started from left to right the first branch is at the 3rd Carbon, if one of the branches was Ethyl, instead of it being methyl for both, should the Carbon with the bigger branch, Ethyl, be better instead of figuring out which chain is closest to the next branch?

    dear Leah Fisch,
    at 8:41 shouldn't the compound be named 4-(ethyl 1-methyl)octane instead of 4-(1-methylethyl)octane... according to arrangement based on alphabetical order of 'e' and 'm' ??............please reply!!

    • @AnNguyen-smile
      @AnNguyen-smile 5 лет назад

      this is branch of branch, so it follows that order. We only arrange them based on alphabetical order if they are in the same level of branch.

    Leah, you are so gifted at explaining this stuff. I have a question though: at 6:40, why is it 3,3-dimethyl and not 3,3-methyl?Are you counting the C in the parent chain? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDS!!!!

      You're very welcome
      In a situation like 3,3-dimethyl
      each 3 represents the location of the 2 methyl groups
      di confirms that we have 2 methyl groups (vs 3,3-methyl only tells of one methyl)

    9:37----> can we give a final name as 5(meth-2-propyl)decane? Because it describes even more clearly.

    • @Leah4sci
      @Leah4sci  4 месяца назад

      You need a 'yl' after 'meth' to show it's a substituent, and the 2 should come before the methyl to show that the methyl in question appears on carbon #2 of the propyl substituent
