  • Hi! Consider this added to my list of "videos that I thought would fit into shorts but then turned out to be the opposite" videos.
Birds are such a teeny tiny detail in the sims that I think many of us forget they're even there. I remember the first time I bought one, it was in Sims 2, I thought it was cool that he flew around but I forgot to feed him, he died and I felt so bad that I didn't try to have a bird ever again, neither in the sims nor irl.
What's your experience with these little guys? Do you like them? Do you think EA will keep milking the sims 4 to reintroduce them as pets? My opinion?
Sims 1 was a solid base, with small and large birds behaving differently, altho, small birds feel barely there and large birds make way too much noise that they won't let my sims nap in peace not me play in silence, they're so annoying! But maybe that's just me
Sims 2 was a great progress, birds have more movement and variety in species of large birds, they have more interactions and can actually leave the cage if you want them to, cool stuff.
Sims 3 copied many things from Sims 2 but improved the way to get birds and reintroduced small birds, it's nice to have so many different varieties in their looks and I think it's neat how you can find them around the world if you're lucky (or have a certain trait)
Sims 4 scrapped all of this and we no longer get pet birds, instead, we get to interact with the wild birds and I think this is very nice in concept, but as a game meant for playing? I'm not sure. I love their little interactions and how they can actually get you stuff and help you with gardening, so yeah, these is a good change but I still miss the pet bird feeling. I'm not sure if pet birds will make a comeback or not but these are fine imo
But that's just my opinion, let me know your's and I'll see you on the next one! I'm thinking either grimm reaper or unique objects or finally stop procrastinating on the horse video, I guess you'll eventually know. Take care!

@@TheRedPlumbob well, the birds from the "cottage living" expansion are ok, but the birds from the "backyard" pack are terrible, in my opinion, the bird models should be replaced with those from the "cottage living" expansion, it would also be useful to have some interaction between these birds

I believe it was a conscious decision because we now have a whole discussion on the cruelty of big birds being kept in tiny cages, for example in the first sims hamster cages were so tiny and now they are really big in sims 4, but for a parrot cage to be considered "humane" it would have to be a whole ass habitat. Yea people still keep parrots in cages but most of the time the parrot is let loose at home and a loose parrot in a sims house i guess would've been another full pet like a dog or cat and not just an object pet like a hamster or a fish on a fish tank.

    • @Holidayflowergirl
      @Holidayflowergirl 6 месяцев назад +55

@@roedoresdeoliveira That branch cage in TS3 would’ve been a decent solution to give the player the choice to own a parrot for example and still be humane. The bird technically wouldn’t be caged in then, so it would be able to fly around the lot whenever it wants to stretch its wings. They could still keep that tree as well that they do have, but add a few more interactions.

I would honestly be shocked if they added actual pet birds to TS4, and they would absolutely sell it as a DLC like My First Pet Stuff.
Like, TS4's way of implementing things is so absurd. To get almost everything TS3 had in the Pets expansion pack for $20, people playing TS4 had to buy cats and dogs for $40, a lump sum of rodents for $10, and then horses for $40. $90 for half of everything TS3 had. It'll either be stuff packs or kits that have a small selection of birds. THEN, there will be another one for reptiles.

The sound design is also perfect, the tapping on the bar when they walk around and the noises the make fit so well. Uh, though the sentiment that little animals therefore must need little space, is somewhat misleading. The Sims birds, be them low res, are still a nice addition to the game. The Sims 2, while only offering the large birds, still enhanced the graphics and gameplay. Sims 3, went above and beyond its predecessors, especially with the ability to pal around town with them, and not only brought back the small birds, but so many more species for both small and large, as well as multiple ways to obtain them. Sims 4 brought back more of the low res, and while there are a couple added nuances, the limitations fall below the even the 1st game. Sims 4 also needs additional packs to add more birds, but the animations and gameplay are not even different (dlc for dlc in Sims 4 DLC Simulator).
    Clearly, Sims 3 wins here❣

cats and dogs honestly could’ve just been a pack for all pets, and they didn’t have to add in brindleton bay. i would’ve been happy if it was just a pack of cats, dogs, birds, rodents, that were all as high quality as the cats and dogs. just all pet stuff, pet build items, CAS, gameplay. they didn’t need to add a whole world, they could’ve put that budget into giving us more actual pets of better quality

Interesting detail about sims 3 birds: large bird can "imitate" the sound of ther doorbell(the sim that heair it will go outside to check the door) and the phone ring tone (The sims that hear it will answer the phone and get angry when they realize it didn't really ring).
in my game it happend two times: first with a falcon and the second time with a sixsam owl, i didn't teach them to do that, they just knew it so i don't know how to trigger it.

Sims 2 birds are the most high poly, but Sims 3 really adds a lot of gameplay and variety! And WOW coldblooded - I had no idea cats could kill in Sims 1 and 3!! Especially in Sims 1 it's shockingly good animation AND coldblooded how the cat can open the cage and everything! Sims 4 would/could never.

Including birds to gardening is also a big plus in my books. Just wish EA would have done something more with birds in 4.

There was also birdwatching in TS2 (Freetime?) and Sims will autonomously birdwatch while walking on the paths in San Sequoia (GRO) too. Also flock watching/chasing in TS4 (IL/C&D), but someone else mentioned that. Chickens as livestock/companions (TS3/4) didn't get a mention either.

Yeah, I agree that Sims 3 had some of the best bird stuff, with both small AND large birds and a decent variety of birds to adopt. Though I'm not sure how I feel about getting one's cat to go and snag you a bird. . . XD Sims 4 really feels like the odd one out without any pet birds, but I'm not sure how they could add them in without giving off more "My First Pet Stuff" vibes.

There are also the flocks of pigeons and seagulls in Sims 4 which cats can chase and bring back feathers. Sims can also scare them. It's not much really. The only flocks which you can interact with are in the cats and dogs world and the get famous world. Flocks exist in other worlds but you can't interact.
