Dude you are the man. For real. I've been so hesitant about doing a large dip job. But if it can come out smooth I'm so so ready. You got a new sub too. Keep it up man.
Just warm those cans in direct sunlight for a few hours and you'll be perfect . Its amazing how warming the can actually makes the paint so much smooother than a cold can where as the paint sometimes appears with small hairs and blobs. Great secret tip
Thank you so so much man!! I now know why the Plasti Dip on my C350's grille is much finer, that's because i dipped it outside in warm weather and the emblem and trim in the rear in my garage and it was cold... Thank you so much for the tips bro!! Helped me alot ! Greetings from Switzerland ! :-)
Thanks for the Tip's brother! i had like a Suede finish on my fenders and it looks horrible! now i know it was because it was cold out when i did it! 😉 I can't wait for take two! 😊
Great advice! Wish I had viewed this before plastidipping for the first time. I plastidipped a motorcycle wheel 5 coats black and 3 coats glorifier. Overall I am happy but the finish is quite a bit rougher than I wanted. It was hovering around 70F when I was working and temps dipped overnight into the 50s so it took several days for the wheel to not be tacky. Now that I know what to do next time, can I apply this technique over my already plastidipped wheel or do I need to re-do it?
I know this an old post but I'm going to plasti dip my spare car. Should you put the can in the hot water in between layers while you wait til the previous layer dry for 15 mins. Or putting it in hot water at the start is enough
Have you ever gotten micro bubbles from using the Plastidip spray? I've been working with the cans and at about the 3rd coat, I start seeing micro bubbles that ruin the finish. Maybe I'm running a bit too heavy.
Niiiice. The only thing I'd add is that if you have an air compressor, use that to clear out your tips... and if you need to, soak your tips in a disolver, then spray them out with the air compressor with a spray gun attachment. This way your not wasting the CO2 in the can by upside down spraying it out. You let all that out, and you've got product stuck in the can that you'll never get out, as you have no way to ever get propellant back into the can.
I have a question if your still giving out answers on this video? Just wanted to know if the temperature of the cans has anything to do with the dip being grabby and rubbery instead of smoothish after the initial 3-4 hours of setting, also I’ve painted my car bonnet which had sun damage in the centre and now there is a spot where the sun damage was, should it have shown up through the dip or have I applied it wrong? Thanks 👍🏼
great vid and i appreciate the advice. however my glossifier spray comes out linty and doesn't appear to gloss at all. any ideas? other than what you already advise in this video because i've done them all. thx
@@SickDips hi there Milan.......your explanation on this video was completely clear....i dipped my wheels a month ago following the required steps....and one of these was to warm the bottles before using........the result was amazing......do you have any idea how many cans will i need to dip the hood and the front bumper?????thanks!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice tip about holding the can upside down to clear it out. BUT here is another tip - most people buy more than one can, so just lift a nozzle from another can while you leave the blocked one to soak and clear out.
+Papagorgio 916 You can go either way. If you are a beginner, I would say start with a light coat. Otherwise, you can go heavier and get great results.
Thanks for the info, your helping me a lot. I have never painted anything in my life. I am doing as much research I can in order to plasti dip my car properly. Any suggestions/tips for a low budget user like me for cleaning my car to prep for paint?
Go to WalMart or something and get a can of Isopropyl Alcohol and it will strip all of the wax and dirt on your car, so the plastidip has a clean surface to adhere to. If you like the vid, throw it a thumbs up :)
Great tips, thanks. Have you ever sprayed a whole car using just cans? If so did you get good results? I know its obviously better to use the spray gun kit but the cost is quite a bit higher. I'm wondering if you can get good results from using the cans.
TwoBuck Chuck Yes I have, and of course you sure can. As long as you keep pulling the wet edge of plastidip across your panel, it is for sure attainable. The finish was actually pretty good too i'm not going to lie.
Great tips... Just something to ask... If you were to do an emblem in plasti dip and logo's etc, but then wanted to plasti dip the car body, however the logo may be intricate, how do you go about separating/masking and not peeling (the older plasti dip) or vice versa whatever was plasti dipped first?
The easiest way would be let the first layer setup, then use a low tack (less sticky) blue painters tape to mask it off. Then, when you get ready to peel it off, just be very slow and careful with it. Also, make sure your original layers are thicker. If they are too thin, sometimes they will peel off with any type of rubbing, etc.
Tell me about it!! I have my summer rims in my room staring at me along with the other mods I have coming up for my car, screaming at me to put them on but this weather's stopping me :(
I have a question, what about when your about to dip the whole car and your using the one gallon container, do you also warm that one up before pouring it into the gun or you just make sure you shake it very well. Thanks
Emiliano Zapata Shake it and agitate it very well. If you can warm it, it can't hurt to do so however it isn't really necessary because when the air travels through the air hose, it gets warmed up and the dip warms before it hits the car.
I will do a DIY regarding this on my other channel if you like. It will be labeled how to remove your wheels. I will let you know when I will have it recorded and uploaded.
the first time i do plastic dip on my car wheel... somehow the paint spray out in a form of water drop, and it do spoiled the whole painting~ any solution of that ? is i dint shake well that cause this problem ?
I’ve gotten much better using Plasti dip. My stuff now looks great but at first I heated the can a little to much and the bottom of the can started to bulge out. Just don’t get the can too hot. It has plenty of strength though because it pushes out over 1/2 an inch and still worked fine. Curious if anyone had this happen. I haven’t seen any comments about anywhere yet. Maybe I was just over zealous lol.
I think i left the can in hott water too long because i went to go spray it and the bottom of the can popped out on the first spray and wasted it. Any tips on temp and time in the water ??
If you were to put a can of soda in the freezer for too long the bottom of the can pops out so its got a round bottom. Well the same thing happened to the dip can after being in hot water.
Oh yeah I see what you mean. I'm not sure as how hot that is but clearly, it was too hot. Bring it back to where you bought it and maybe they can give you a refund. I always just use the hot water from the taps. Does the job and I leave it in the bowl or whatever for about 10 minutes before using it.
I have a problem when laying mine down. like on my motorcycle the front nose fairing has so much curve to it that when I am spraying on one side of it that the over spray is landing on the other part and making it textured. idk what to do about that.
The first and the last coats are the most important ones. The first coat must be misted on where the last coat must be applied wet to get a good final finish. If you're having trouble with the overspray when you're hitting one side, just make sure that the last coat is wet all around. Remember that plastidip is self levelling, so when its wet, it'll flatten itself out even if you 'overspray' onto it.
Sick Dips ok thanks. the rest of my bike is fine very smooth finish can't tell its dip. just the front got fucked haha. maybe I was just slightly to far away also?
Thanks for this tip. When you are using a gallon, do you warm them up in hot water too, I am going to use the spray gun and was wondering if the same idea applies . Cheers
Good tips but might I suggest you use paper to demo the difference (instead of plastic). I also find it odd when people use plastic to mask off body panels when spraying a car. THe spray stays wet for longer on the plastic, and it can end up dripping.
Gee..might be good to know about heating the rattle can for a smooth glass like surface....before dipping the car. uggghh! It's 90 degrees F in my garage and finish is still rough...so this guy's heads up of around 100 is necessary...but take care heating aerosol cans!
if its 90 outside you dont need to heat your cans you need to spray different and use thicker wetter coats so it evens itself out better with no texture
I tried plasti dip for the first time today and it came out in globes. I shook it for five ten minutes and it still did this. this was the grey so I went to the store and got some black and did the same . not to impress with this .
+Jon Wright If you don't shake the cans enough, that can happen. But more than that, the cans need to be warm throughout so they spray nice and even, perfect example is in this video. Temperature makes the biggest difference
PS be very careful taking advise from children. Heating a can under pressure can make it explode. If the bottom of your can balloons out, STOP HEATING IT!!!!
These tips are everywhere but he made it the best out of any honestly

Glad its helped you out!! Temperature really affects the plastidip more than you think. Anyways cheers from Canada :)

All the stuff Fonzi didn't do
That's important
nd k Fonzi lives in FL. Dip is always warm down there ;p
Skye13 Needs to be warmer for better results. The warmer it is, the better the particles will atomize when it comes out of the spray can

Skye13 fonzi uploaded this before 4 years

If you try to put the compress can to hot water it will not burst? and what is required temperature to dip the can in to hot water
Is this just for plasti dip? Or spray paint cans as well?

Please do let me know when you do the DIY for tire removal. I will be waiting. Thank you so much

laquer thinner is to hot for a plastic nozzle, mineral spirits will work nicely
i have atv, yamaha grizzly 700cc. its big. and i want to ask. how much cans i need to spray it?? i want blaze blue colour.
Thank you for the info
Great tip video! Now if only Ontario would thaw..
Ain't that the truth!! I'm getting tired of all the snow & salt & crap we have to put up with..
Sick Dips yep, would love to get these snows off.

Most of Canada isn't made for car enthusiasts. :(
I heat my cans up with a propane torch but you're right I also wore my dip up to
That'll do the trick as well. Try using hot water as it is cheaper, and you can spread the heat more uniformly.
Thanks for the awesome tips!!! I'm considering dipping. By the way, just curious, what camera are you filming with? Great quality :D
Thanks I appreciate it! :) I'm using a Canon Eos Rebel T5i
So no wet sprays on 1 and 2?

U gotta mask ot, you can peal it off, but not the overspray cuz its not a band, its small dots. Good vid 👏👏
