- Studio Tour - How To Build A Home Studio
In this video I explain how I turned a normal spare bedroom into a professional grade home recording studio and creative space. I give a detailed run down of all the equipment I use and why I use it.
To try to keep the video short I could only give a brief overview of my studio, but I have written up a complete overview of my home studio including technical specs and links to each item. You can see the entire write up here: adamivy.com/how...

Thanks to everyone who has watched the video and left a positive comment. I don't have any platinum plaques on my walls or Grammy awards on my mantel, but I really enjoy making music and producing great content through my digital media company. I appreciate everyone who supports what I do and this channel. New videos coming soon. Thanks again!
Great video, I was wondering what kind of camera you used to record this video?
Awesome I'm producing here in Tampa.
AdamIvy yh man sure no probs
ONE OF THE BEST HOME STUDIOS I HAVE EVER SEEN SO FAR... NO BULLSHIT. YOU DON'T HAVE A MILLION PIECES, BUT THE PIECES YOU DO HAVE ARE FKN QUALITY TO THE TENTH POWER!!! WAIT TILL' I'M DONE... I WATCH YOUR VID OVER AND OVER... LOVE YOUR SETUP DUDE!!!
I appreciate the love man. Thank you! Glad I could inspire you.
AdamIvy No doubt!!!
Seriously, thanks for the inspiration man. I'm a self taught engineer/recording artist and I'm in the process of upgrading my in home studio and this video lets me know that I'm on the right path. I definitely support this video and plan on watching more.
great video, i love how some people are saying you don't have this or that, most of the people complaining are broke AF, and don't have a fraction of what you have.
it's sad that people always have to throw shade and be negative.
you invested in yourself and your art and i can't do anything but respect that!
keep up the great work, i'm going to build my own home recording studio soon,
i loved your video be blessed!
ti
Yea look at flux pavillion's home studio it's probably a third of this one
I have that exact desk that I recently bought off craigslist and I have one of those exact Dell monitors. I smiled when you gave the model number lol.
Adam Ivy is a great guy with a really nice studio... His really cool personality can be seen here where he's got nothing to do but be himself while he talks about the really cool studio he's invested in and deserves it with the hard work he's put in over the years. You've always been great help to me and I really love the video you did here... Keep the behind the scenes Adam Ivy videos coming!!! and your other vids too!
I appreciate the kind words bro. Sorry for the super slow response. Lol.
This just motivated me man, awesome, all I have right now is my laptop, my audio technicas, and my small bedroom where I make beats, but I know one day I'll have my own studio, peace.
Great vid. Love that Yamaha XF6. Was looking at the MOXF6 for me as well. A little more affordable. And I'm with you on the Audio-Technica headphones. Love them! Nice job sir!
Your descriptions are killer. Thanks for being detailed, yet getting the point across.
The progress in 4 years is dope man good shit .
Hey there i was watching your video a minute ago, and I just wanna say thank you for even more encouragement than I ever had from anyone that is closest to me. I must say that i am new to this world of production of beats but must admit i love music and i always have different music or what is called rid dims in my head, that i know would be a significant factor to some artist some where. I played the trumpet back in high school, but that is where that stopped some twelve years ago but i still have these melody out brakes within my head and soul. I was thinking for the last couple of weeks about the musical blessing. Now after watching your video and listening to you close the video by giving that tremendous closing speech i am now determine to flow my musical quest and i just wanna say thank you for the inspiration it is not when it is how i accomplish my desires/goals. Thank You, and you probably would hear a feature one day life last
Thanks for the video! Helped me get a good idea on gear :)
Hi Adam, Just watched your video on RUclips, I am from Lancashire in the UK and about to set uo a community radio station. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and your honesty about your vision.
Regards Dave T (UK)
Great video bro!! I'm in the process of making my own home studio and been watching a whole bunch of videos to see what type of software and gear I need to buy and by far your video it's the most sincere and descriptive I have found thus far in RUclips. I'll am definitely checking out your beats! Much luv and thank you very much for this piece of information I appreciate it man!
hey man, I am a bass player, never recorded but I think that's the door the LORD is opening for me in the future, im in the market for getting some studio moniters and a interface to perhaps get going on recording, but to comment on your vid, I just appreciate your DETAIL overview of your studio, this helps so much to understand a home studio... I just am inspired and I love that you know where you came from and that you believe that GOD and that in whats positive to have fun and be creative, I just agree with that attitude brother... blessings Daniel
This is one of the nicest home studios I have seen. I plan on having a similar home studio in the near future.
I appreciate it bro. Thanks for that! Someday you definitely will have one probably nicer than mine.
How best can someone explain and inspire you this way... you the best
Thank you sir after your video I will be creating a Big Boy Studio in my Home and you gave me the blueprint to do so...
Beautiful studio bro. Yes this video was very inspirational. I can't wait to stop making beats with my laptop and skull candy headphones and have my own home studio like this
Adam Thank You very much! for all the advises and opinions about all your gear, it was really helpful!
You are great man you help me a lot to chose what im gonna buy for my studio i check others didn't convince me you help me a lot after searching for 3 days thanks
One thing about being in a room built inside my garage in the ghetto 3 am sound is perfectly fine 😂
Reminds me of the meme it was 3 am and my neighbor came and knocked on my door can you believe it 3 am i stopped playing my drums to see what he wanted 😂
Great video, I'm looking to build a home studio soon and I wanted to know how to learn about the equipment that goes into a studio. I have the knowledge and creativity to make the music I just don't know how all of the equipment works, thanks a lot!
International Reggae artist, and artist for Thievery Corporation.. I really enjoyed your video..
Looks like the Yamaha KX8 is extinct now lol, what other controllers like that can you recommend. I also have the akai MPK 49...tough to express myself playing keys.
Also what do you think about the Yamaha NS10s as compared to the HS8s?
This setup is amazing bro im currently looking at ways to place the accoustic foam around my home studio
The dopest home studio ever!!
Adam, loved your video and it makes a great visualization/goal for me in helping me see the kind of studio I want to create. Thanks for the great work and inspiration! Franko

Great Video Man... listening to your instrumentals right now and i will be setting up soon hopefully 8 years from now i can look like you
I appreciate that. If I can do it, you most certainly can too.

Great vid! definitely inspired me. Im starting to build a real studio and can't wait to incorporate these. great work thanks man!
im a professional audio production suite designer/contractor. I don't mean to be brash by any means, but just by listening to this video i recommend adding a "cloud" to your treatment array. heed my advice for what its worth to you, but iT WILL 100% help with some of your excited mid frequency standing waves/flutter echo etc. also a few bass traps in the corners. these can be made at home for minimal amounts of money and are almost crucial. maybe ill post a video pertaining to these subjects. Looks great though brother! a warm color for those hot trax. haha. good luck and happy tracking.
Thanks Tom. I'm actually in the process of shooting a video for my new home studio set-up which I actually did add some corner bass traps. I appreciate the advice.
putting it simply in two words!!! UR GOOD!!!
2 Thumbs up! Great Video!
Thanks bro!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful for an inspired producer like myself. Keep making videos, keep grindin, keep up the great work. Thanks
Great video. Very informative. It is inspiring to see the shot of where you started and where you are now.
I'm happy to hear I could inspire you a bit. Thanks for the comment!
Set Up Looks Good. Il get there soon. Keep it Up!!!
woo, I got the exact same chair the other week (non leather) love the built in lumbar support and the headrest :)
Thanks. This is excellent info. I wish I had the space for this now.
Top job, Adam. Great to hear the passion and see the results so, all the usual words (inspiring, uplifting yada yada) but most of all, thanks.
Very inspiring brother I'm starting my studio and this has been a great help
Thank you for share your nice studio set up.
This room looks really good
Wow! That's a very great an inspiring video :-) Keep it up!
cool video, and a humble guy too! all the best!
wood grain , like a Boss! congrats
Excellent Video!, Very informative without being preachy, thanks buddy!
Very nice set up. Thanks for sharing this information. I'm just getting to the point of collecting all my gear needed. I'm a guitarist for almost 50 years but my play dates and touring is over. More interested in working on the music in my head. I'm disabled (electrocuted after a gig 5 years ago) so I was forced into retirement. Still dealing with the lawsuit but it may be settled soon.
Very cool vlog! Looking forward to learning!!!!!
All I have is a laptop and a Scarlett gen 2 interface which is usb and a Scarlett mic that came with it as a bundle which is a xlr mic and I can still get a decent sound from it when the vocals are dry and the only software I have is audacity which is free and has limitations but it does everything like EQ and compression and I still get some good sounding mix out of that for my songs but I love your setup I hope one day to have something like that
This is a great video. Thanks man.
Always Awesome🔥🔥🙏
wish u all the best keep it up u will get there
Thank you for this video Adam. I've been trying to find some idea's on re-constructing my studio and it so happens my room is similar to yours with the slanted roof. It gave me plenty of ideas on what to do. Also thank you for the gear information and where to buy other than retail stores. Very Inspiring. Thanks again
Wow I wish my studio was as impressive as yours hard work pays off! I would love to see you do that plugin video and you mentioned something about showing what chain you use on your vocals if you can do that that would be nice. I recently switched back to pro tools for vocals and I been trying to get familiar with it again.
More videos coming soon. Thanks again for watching.
Man looking at your studio and looking at mine, I wish you made mine, haha great job!!
Great video! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Great video. I'm just getting started into the Voice Over world, so I'm a long way from in making your kind of investment in my home rental apartment. Thank goodness for walk-in closets. :-) I'm still in the "what mic" and "what pre-amp" do I want stage.
Do continue with more videos, especially that software video you thought about.
Beautiful setup man
"if you wanna pay me, pay me!" XDDDDDDD
Please do a software video as well . This was so good .Thank you
I am still in high school but I think that would be a dream job. I just have no idea where to start. What colleges are good? What do I do once I get equipment? Things like that.
Sam Whitehead Feel free to send me an email to askadamivy@gmail.com
Sam Whitehead Listen to music all the time. Got no money? get a 4track cassette recorder. It'll teach you soooo much. Do you play instruments? Don't be unrealistic in your audible goal. There's some great records out there recorded next to nothing - punk stuff etc. Years ago I started when I was 12! I got a tascam 4track screamed in a cheapo mic, played my bass and generally had fun and experimented as much as i could. The only thing that kept me involved was my interest. That sounds pretty dumb ass and obvious but it's true. you'll never get good at stuff you're not mad about. Best of luck Sam - and don't worry if it aint your bread winning job, your passion will make up for it :D
Sam Whitehead go to Berklee. Period. Online music production is cheaper and you don’t need to audition.
This is amazing man, my respects
Great video, love this. quality for sure bro
Love the setup
Thanks for watching man!
Lol im def sold on the "wood grain" tower fan
you got this bro

Thanks for that. New videos coming soon.
Thanks great vid., I have the same chair (Blue) and the same color change lites from Ikea.
graet video. the best studio tour video
Video was great! alot of good insight on your recording process. Im going to be "borrowing" some of your techniques =P Really like the vocal chain setup, and acoustics look killer.
Nice studio bro, keep it up, one love
Hey man! Just stumbled by the channel. Love the video! Love how you also mentioned death metal. Subscribed and will be watching daily!
I love the room. More details of exactly how you designed it.

Adam, Love the color changing lights behind your desk. Where can I get them.
I LIKE YOUR LAB @ADAM THIS JOINT IS NICE AND CLEAN.....
Great vid man!! I love the studio. I was curious, besides music, what kind of work do you do?
Thanks for the comment man. I work as a media director for a technologies company. I also own and operate a media company myself and do some other things.
Great video.
You rock bro.
Yes please do the mic comparison video. Thanks
Great room.
Definitely one of the best videos I've seen lately on this subject, congratulations for what you've achieved, because it's clear that you worked hard or it. I've been making music for the past 6 years, but since 2011 I've been taking more interest on production and the whole process itself and I've been planning my first home studio setup for when I finally get my own place (next year, I hope) and take things to the next level, because I've been producing/composing/mixing/mastering all in a shitty laptop with cracked softwares and no hardware at all, apart from an entry-level Line 6 POD, for guitars and vocals. I'm now gonna check your complete article hoping to get more brilliant insight on this subject. What is the best way to reach you for further questioning and informations?
Oh and I'd definitely like to see one about the softwares you use.
Wonderful video brother.
Thanks man!
Bout dam time you post a vid lol Thanks for the Setup Tour doe Homie!
Thanks for the comment bro. Sorry for the slow ass response. Lol.
AdamIvy lol what year is it!? 😂😂 n its koo brah 👍
loved it! I was scanning through and don't know weather you mentioned it or not, but what model are the flashing led lights and where are they from and how much they cost?:))))
I believe they were about $40 and I got them from IKEA. I'm going to do a video specifically on them since so many people ask me about them. Lol. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Mr. Ivy. I am glad i stumbled onto you. This is so really nice, (Off topic, the music in the background, who by??...)
