social anxiety is not like an infection, its not something you just suddenly "get". It pertains to a lifetime of experiences. Usually some of the experiences were traumatic in some way. Broken families, sudden premature death of a loved one, even being bullied...physical or psychological trauma is a common trigger. it makes the bud blossom. we all have it, it is just a matter of the degree to which we suppress it in ourselves.
Not a football fan but I remember following Ricky because of debilitating social anxiety myself through my twenties and thirties.. now at 42 I am finally at peace. Folks that never have had social anxiety will never know, much love to all thats struggling with this battle, keep your head up and never ever give up no matter how lonely it feels or painful it gets.. keep moving forward

@@zonaguy480 aside from the obvious,, exposure and gaining experience that compound over the yrs what helped me most was physical relaxation.. CBT therapy and medication never lasted however learning to relax my body over and over and over again until I got used to it and good at it began to change my thought patterns.. I found if I slowed and relaxed my body down my thoughts automatically followed. Strange, ironic I know as this is a psychological problem but it's whats worked for me.
kangjhha I’m glad you mentioned your experience with medication. I’ve been on the fence with it and actually scheduled an appointment to get on meds. But I don’t want to end up on multiple different kinds and have to possible deal with side effects. When I do take time to meditate and slow my mind I realize how fast my thoughts(anxiety) really are. Did you have any success with supplements?
5HTP, L Tyrosine, L Theanine were few.. it helped but like prescriptions it wouldn't last. Phenibut was gods send(at the time), I could focus in the present moment.. it made me very sociable as well but in the end unsustainable, like medication u need higher doses and cause side effects.. this was around the time I began "meditation" and breathing. It helped me realize I was going a 100mi a minute (walking, talking, thinking, breathing..etc) which is normal since your constantly in flight mode and that I was hypersensitive TO EVERYTHING. Through continued meditation I learned to truly understand and slowly apply what it meant to "Let Go".. it really has had a profound affect on the way I view the world and interpret things now.
I’ve looked up to Ricky ever since I found out he suffered from anxiety man what a resilient soul this guy has most people won’t understand what it takes to move foward with this illness it’s not easy and Williams found his way while others bashed his name he just focused on his recovery. I didn't know it's a disease until my psychology class taught me about human resource body language. on certain types of people with Disabilities and Social anxiety. even some football players or athlete's have it certain people can't understand me especially those that's close too me.

Instead of helping him heal from the inside out and find himself, the therapist, Janey Barnes, who Ricky Williams trusted the most, took the easy way out by “Labeling” him with a disorder! Labeling people does not help them! The proof is in the pudding!She is a piece of shit and should be ashamed of herself! Any therapist who labels people with disorders and prescribes drugs to them as the solution should lose their license and be put in the desert with the vultures! We all need help sometimes and most of us should seek it and accept the work if the therapy is applied correctly, but trash those weak MF therapists who suffer from myopia (most of them) only to label a person in need so they justify their ill prepared means and collect a paycheck! Ricky is a good whole person but you assholes have put him in a box!!!!
Although weed does increase my social anxiety stopping weed does not make my social anxiety go away. I’ve noticed actually that when I’m consistently smoking everyday the parts of the day I’m not smoking my anxiety gets better. When I quit smoking all together my social anxiety is actually stronger.
