A lot of guys say it's not really the steel that makes the knife, it's the heat treat that's most important.

And those guys are absolutely correct...as I agree and preach that whole heartedly..thanks for watching

Nah, as good as “super steel” might seem on paper, there are plenty of overlooked steel types that can stand up to some really rigorous usage!

Super steels are just for guys that don’t want to have to ever sharpen a knife… and who want to say they have the latest and “greatest”… and who are easily duped by marketing gimmicks.
    It’s obvious where I stand!

I'm gonna try and challenge that..gonna do the same tests with an S35vn steel folder and take it till it drops

Good steels are gorgeous and usually are accompanied by excellent fit n finish and other great builds and materials, it's a good topic to talk about

Cutting steel belted anything is not something I really need a knife to do.

I am aware that it is not common practice to use a knife to cut such materials. The point of this series or my knife tests in general is to cut unconventional, industrial materials to test the strength and impact on the edge, lock up & retention. This will give the viewer a clear picture of many different factors if owned..such as heat temper, steel ability and overall quality of the work of the smith..I do this so you don't have to but it's good to know that it can...this series is also for the purpose of using the knife hard use till it dulls with no sharpening or stropping and see how many days it can do...you got me friend?

I don’t give a shit about steel really. Carbon is good because I can strop it to a good edge in 20 seconds. A good stainless with right heat treatment is gonna perform fine for anything I use it for; wood, food, cutting generally whatever materials.
People act like they need a lightsaber and buy 500 dollar pocket knives rave about a steel they don’t understand at all drive the entire market up in price cos they like to be mister super knife.
Tell you what. My morakniv companion and my Opinels are my carries most days and they’ll perform just as good as anything, cost me 40 bucks for the 3.
And if I wanna be a bit fancy I’ll take my Russel Grohmann no 01 belt knife and my Grohmann mini Russel folder with high carbon stainless. They’re not space rock steel but they hold a great edge easy to sharpen or strop back and they cost me a total of 200, which for the handcrafted quality is not bad but even that’s a bit much.
I’m a knife nerd but the knife dorks who want to make everything over engineered unnecessary money pits are dumb.
That said buy what you want enjoy it it’s not my business. It’s just my opinion.
