      LOL!!! This Doctor is keeping her fingers crossed that the patient can pull through and recover! ...but one thing I can say is indeed I tried my best to save her...thanks for watching dear friend! :) PS How is your extreme propagation doing?

      +MY Orchid Adventures They were taken/stolen from the home a while ago...I hope they are doing well. I moved the orchids recently to the sw side of the house for protection. Happy growing.

      +SHARON SHORT THEY GOT STOLEN!!!! OH MY BEEEGEEEBERZ!!! I am so sorry to hear that...they aughta be ashamed of themselves! People ask me all the time if I get worried that someone would steal my orchids since I keep the outside and I never have given much thought about it...that really makes me worried because I keep my most expensive orchids (vandas) outdoors...some at almost 100 a pop! YIKES!

      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад

      +SHARON SHORT Not so well...they got injured severely during the winter...one is knocking on orchid heaven's door...and the other one is still hanging on with all of her might... :( I will do an update soon....sniff, sniff.... :(

    Wow - what a Vanda collection and all growing so well. Excellent advice all in one vid. Such good work. Thank you. And great to show some alternative ways to grow. There is never 'just one way' we can all agree some ways are better than others. But outdoors in the breeze and fresh air with plenty of hydration and excellent light levels - I would agree is 'one of the best' if not 'the' best way. When this lady talks, my advice would be to listen!

      Thank you so much for your kind words and for joining me on my orchid adventures...and yes I am coming close to 100 vandas! YIKES!!! LOL!!! ...and I am definitely a grower that is not set on growing orchids one way and take every opportunity to find new, easier and better way of growing them...I have went against the grain in some of my methods...and I have won some and I have lost some...but I have always walked away with with an expanded sense growth with each experiment...and usually inspired with even more creative ideas that I'm anxious to try...so it is always an enlightened experience and never a lost cause or a wasted effort...by no means am I an expert...just a person that is very passionate about what I do, always willing to learn, GROW and share...again I thank you for joining me on my adventures and wishing you the absolute best in yours! :)

      HA HA HA!!!! ....and thank you for that...awfully kind of you to say!!! Yea their roots can get pretty massive and tangling themselves everywhere like they had no sense! I keep having to run my fingers between the roots to make sure they didn't entangle themselves into one another! I have one vanda that secretly attached itself to my orchid tree and is hanging on for dear life...I'm not sure yet what my plan of action is...LOL!! ...and if they get to massive it is okay to cut them back...they are just so hardy they'll grow new ones in no time.

    Sending this vid to a friend who has 2 huge vandas recently acquired. She asks for my opinion but I know nutting! Hers have heaps of keikis, so if you get time Maria, can you show us how to remove, or if you think maybe they should be left on the plants. Happy to see you back in the drivers seat with your vids.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад

      Me know nutting too! LOL!!! I actually took a baby from mama about 4 years ago...and going based on my memory it is a little bit more tricky in the regards that they don't simply twist off...once it is safe enough to be removed usually they are at a good size with thick healthy roots and woody stem...so you would have to use something really sharp...and depending on the angle and position of the keikis and roots will determine how delicate you will have to be...but with patience you should be able to cut it away with no problem...just make sure keiki looks healthy enough and has at least 2 - 3 healthy roots. I myself am not in a habit of removing vandals keikis...I love seeing them as specimen plants and having 2 or 3 (or more) times the blooms...but of course if you have a limited grow space it could pose as a problem and can become frustrating...tell her I wish her the best of luck in whatever decision she chooses! :)

    So jealous! I have a hard time dealing with vandas. I put one in pot and manage to rot all roots in lava rock...glad it has three roots growing out of the pot... I have some seedlings that refuse to grow. One almost mature vanda in basket bare roots that looks thirsty all the time so I soak the roots in water three times for 10 mins each time. I am in Columbia sc and it is hot and dry. Also I just ordered a vanda box... What am I thinking...

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад +1

      LOL!!! Yea I know vandas can be quite the difficult orchid because of their watering requirements...but don't give up...sometimes and depending on age, they can go through many phases. I find the smaller they are the more sensitive and difficult they are to deal with...I don't purchase any more tiny seedling vandas for that reason. I was told by a grower that for the first 5 - 10 years of their lives they grow extremely slow...and then afterwards they go through a growth spurt and make up for lost time...that's when they start growing normal (which is still very slow in my book). Usually when we get a mature orchid...believe it or not they are already about 5 - 10 years old. With that in mind if you purchase smaller ones...Yes indeed it is going to take a lot of patience...I have a vanda keiki growing now for about a year...with no growth at all....I keep looking at it like what's wrong with you and it keeps looking at me like what's wrong with me...Yea it's been quite a power struggle!! I can suggest perhaps when you soak your vanda you soak it longer...I usually bathe mine for a couple of hours...it won't hurt them and they just soak up more water. ...again sweetie it's going to take patience...but never lose the orchid faith...and you my dear...YOU CAN DO IT!!! HAPPY GROWING! :) :) :)

    At 6:14 into your video, you showed what you called a vining vanda. My neighbor moved away and left them to her new owner who does not have a clue as to how to take care of them. I asked if I could take them as she was about to throw the vine away. The flower you showed is exactly as the one she was throwing away. What is the name of that Vanda, so I can nurse it back to health. Live in Largo Florida.

      MY Orchid Adventures i live in sub tropical which my vanda teres grows their roots not only from the bottom but the whole thing
      how am i suppose to water the whole thing,i cant put spaghnum moss around the roots they are easy to break

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад

      If you are growing them indoors...then the best way would be with a spray bottle or a mister...if you are growing outdoors then I would suggest a hose. This plant would require the entire plant to be watered....because for as many roots this plant can grow and the rooting grow habit that it has...it would be very difficult to try and attach moss or other material to the roots...but not impossible...just difficult and frustrating.

    Hey thank you for the videos they are great. I have been gifted a few Vandas only one has an iD of Lawrence I Believe and they are large.do you know how I can train the the roots to be more manageable ? I live on Long Island in New York the air is dry with my humidifiers on high in the room with the orchis it only reaches 40%. I soak the Vandas about every other day over night. The roots look alive but not happy. Do you have any recommendations?. I have really debated cutting the roots back but I feel terrible doing it.Thank you

    Hi! I'm new at collecting Vanda orchids. I'd like to ask for tips on how I can grow roots faster. I have six cuttings with blooming flowers but the buds at the top dry out and I don't know why. I water them everyday though.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад

      What type of pandas are they and do you keep them indoors or outdoors. Sometimes the weather conditions can strongly effect the way the blooms blossom...may vandas don't like cold temperatures and will begin showing effects when they reach below 50 degrees sometimes in the roots or blossoms...also not enough water can also have ill effects on vandas. The best way to encourage roots is to water often and keep in a very warm humid environment. You can also try some putting moistened rooting hormone powder on the stem...that may help to promote root growth. But I will inform you that in the colder season the vandas and many other orchids will begin to slow down in its growth. I hope this helps and I wish you luck. Please keep me posted.
