A few of you requested this, so here is the solo from the title track of Metallicas 2nd album. A really interesting solo to play from a great record. Enjoy!!
@John Overthinker Ironic. Kurt loved Ride the Lightning and Kill em All; Metallica and thrash metal was a clear influence on his writing for Bleach, which could easily be seen as a metal album if it had a cleaner production. Kurt had a natural ear for music by diversifying what he listened to, allowing him to create songs that could naturally incorporate different aspects of music from different genres that he thought worked. Metallica wasn't contemporary, they didn't focus on their looks, and their music had a lot of meaning and intensity behind it, exactly the kind of attitude Kurt would get behind. If you don't believe me, there's plenty of Metallica interviews where they talk about meeting Kurt how they were surprised that he liked their music. Kurt also went to a Metallica show in 1992 and got the band to play Whiplash, which there is video of.
@@bigfoot2462 hmm kill em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, and justicer for all, the black album, load, reload, death magnetic, hardwired...they all joined the chat
Mr. Z He has writing credits because he wrote the Spider Chord Riff and the Verse Riff. Kirk wrote the solo, but Metallica doesn’t give writing credit for solos.
Btw this is the new guitarist of judas priest so people downing him saying he isn't a professional guitarist needs to shut up lol and by all means metallica is my favorite band and I love kirk but this guy is slightly more skilled in my opinion. Sorry
I see a lot of people hating on kirk so here is WAHt i think: kirk is a legend. Compared to guys like yngwie or gilbert his technique sucks but the reason he is a legend is because he was in the biggest metal band off all time and he inspired thousands of people to even pick up a guitar
To be honest, since Kirk wrote those sollos for the first 5 albums, he also writes better music. Haha, sure Yngmwidmmwofw (or however it's spelled) is a god in playing, but what he wrote is overrated.
He is not the most technically proficient guitarist around, not even by 80s standards. But, he made solos that fitted perfectly to Metallicas style! Don't get me wrong, Kirks solos are not beginner stuff at all!!
I like Paul Gilbert , his technique is amazing better than Kirk's but Kirk wrote great solos for the Metallica's songs. Although when im studying guitar im trying to figure out Paul's techniques.
@@bremtremont2027 you are publicly stating stuff for private life with no evidence. I have enough evidence about this guy's guitar skills to admire him. Go away dude we do not need people like you. Report again...

10 years. Just recommend to me now. And by far the best effort of this solo I’ve seen! Bravo! I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Kirk lost his way over the years, but man there’s some epic solos on albums 2, 3 & 4. 👏🏼
Eldon B He's just as good as he ever was, dude - he's just altered his style over the years. And he improvises a lot live - that's what certain people ( mainly ignorant trolls and haters ) don't realize.
Dmitry Owens "legendary metal guitarist" ok. legendary and kirk don't combine :v. If you want to know true legendary guitarist, there's Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman, Petrucci, Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Page, Santana, Les Paul B.B King, YNGWIE.. Not some hotshot thrash rebel mainstream mainstream playing generic crap. Oh wait, you're a metallica FANBOY, you most likely don't know half of these guitarist x)
Juan Correa Yngwie? LMFAO! He couldn't write a good song or a melodic memorable guitar lead that fits a song to save his life. Every one of his solos sounds exactly the same - mindless shredding of scales and arpeggios in 32nd notes with no regard for the song structure or feel. And Petrucci and Friedman have absolutely no soul in their playing - more mindless overly-technical shredding. Also, I've been a Rock and Metal fan since 1980, a pro gigging guitarist for over 25 years, and a guitar and bass instructor for 15 years - I've heard every Rock and Metal guitarist who's worth hearing. Jimi and Carlos are my two favorite guitarists of all time, and they're also two of Kirk's favorites as well. Some of my other favorites/ influences are Michael Schenker ( who's also a huge influence on Kirk ) Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Brian May, David Gilmour, Uli Roth, Fast Eddie Clark, Angus Young and Gary Moore.
man, you nail it! your vibrato is much more modern and lively than Hammett's. i bought this album in 1984 when i was 15. this record changed everything for me... kirks' solos on this track, Fade and Kthulu were like Randy Rhoads on helium gas.... this is one of the most magestic and magnificent heavy metal guitar solos of all fucking time. thanks for making it look like a cake walk. you've done the time, boy. amazing job.
Well, If Faulkner and Hammett were actually jamming, he'd take the Metallica axeman to school.....Faulkner's phrasing is impeccable, especially with those improvisations on EMGTV, Hammett couldn't even do that in a million years.
Kenny Ken That's a load of bullshit - Hammett is a pioneer of his own style. Richie is a great player, but he's not an innovator or a legend like Kirk is - he replaced someone who is.
Hammett has fallen as a Guitarist since a long time. He used to be on the top and he was a beast and had written some of the most iconic solos. He just got old just like the rest of the band and in couple of years they would just call it quits.
Kenny Ken Kirk Hammett is actually still a good player; he and Rob are the only metallica members (besides Jason) who haven't lost their edge . I was one of those people who used to think he sucked after the black album, but I was wrong when I saw him perform with death angel and exodus. He even plays the first solo on a song off of the latest exodus album "blood in blood out" and it's pretty good
YESSSS, you have nailed it Richie!!! 👍 You deserved to get a place in a big band! (Maybe not the 'tallica, but Judas Priest or something like that.) 😅🤘
Well let's see I've been playing for 30 years and I have a good idea of what good playing is, everybody knows that's one of kirks best solos, maybe it's jealousy I'm hearing. U just have to knock people down to make u feel better and u can't give credit when it's due!!!
Let me introduce you, Mr. Kirk Cobain
Except that he plays better than the two of them.

Well, Richie effortlessly recreates Kirk Hammet's best take on the record. Absolutely impressive.
