    Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Yakuza are franchises that feel hard to get into without certain people assigning tens or hundreds of hours of homework, I appreciate this outlook

      Lol I literally had to watch a yakuza timeline video to know which one I could start with (it was actually simpler than I expected though, but devil may cry 3 and metal gear 3 been prequels didn’t help to thinking every sequel number is an actual sequel lol).

    DQ IX Will always be my favorite , still feels like a miracle that it was on the ds. It was the first one I ever played when I was in middle school and I was sold immediately. I just wish they would release it on modern consoles.

      yeah!! ix is wild and seems like it was a lot of people's entry-point. hopefully they remake / port it so people can use the online features - they feel SO important to the experience.

    I actually started with 3 and then played 1 and 2 after. The Erdrick trilogy is a fun little romp and especially 3, because it shows where dragon quest really started to figure out it's identity. And now with the HD-2D remake a couple of months away, I would highly recommend starting at 3. Or 11, you can never go wrong starting with 11.

    I started with 1 and that was enough to get me hooked! Played 4 afterwards and finished it. Now I'm onto 2 and I'm loving it so far.

    Dragon Quest 7's strongest soldier here. I know it's long, meandering, and probably the grindiest of the entire series (rivaled only by the post-game of DQ9), and honestly not the pinnacle of Dragon Quest, but I just really love it for the slow, casual style of a grand adventure and its structure with a particular focus on weird and interesting little vignettes, and I hope more people can acclimate them selves to the DQ formula enough to give it a try. I even got my PS1 copy signed by Yuji Horii at an event a few years ago. Always glad to see more coverage of Dragon Quest in the west and I hope this video gets more people interested in the series.

    My introduction to the series was dragon quest 1 on the switch. I really liked how short it was and I’m currently playing though both DQ11 and DQM Dark Prince. Really hooked onto the series now and I really do want to play more of them. But I think my favorite aspect of the series are the enemy designs. I love the monsters. That’s all I wanted to say and thank your for the recommendations.

    So when i was little my dad bought me Dragon quest monster joker 2 for the nintendo ds , i spent i think more than 300 hours on that game , i loved that game so much , then i got dragon quest IX absolute insane game almost infinite content then i played dragon quest swords on the wii(your wii remote is the sword), then i got a switch and i played dragon quest XI everything is perfect about it except the 2d mode , then i played dragon quest IV at the start i didn't like it but slowly i started to like it , then i played DQ V(i haven't finished it ) and watched his film(DQ Your Story is inspaired by it) then i played DQ Monsters the dark prince(it could have been better) and now i am playing dragon quest VIII and i am loving it

    DQ VII was my first entry point. I had never heard of the series before and my mom picked it up for my birthday based on the recommendation of a random Game Stop employee. What a great way to be introduced to the world of RPGs and DQ in particular.

    I feel Dragon Quest 1 is actually a good start. Yes, it's an old game exactly 19 days older than me to be precise but the switch version is in my opinion a good way to ease younger children into the series. The story is simple but that's part of the charm, it's very much a fairytale. The way the Castle of the final boss is visible from the starting place is a great way to lead the attention and give a goal.
    The numbers are easy to grasp, each new weapon, armor and shield is an upgrade of the previous and the amount of coins needed are able to actually teach younger kids to save up to work hard to get that next level. Am I going to fight easy enemies to get little bits of xp slowly or am I going to risk stepping over the bridge getting more xp with a higher chance of death.
    Being beaten also means having your money halved which is a punishment that makes dying not the worst thing but will give incentive to work at staying alive. The four different endings are also actualy impressive for a game from that time.
    I say these things work for younger people but the smae things do count for older people too. it's a grindy game yes but at no point did it feel that way because I was constantly looking forward to the next level, piece of gear or area that came with growing stronger. With a playtime between 8 to 12 hours depending on what goals you set for yourself it's actually a good entrypoint especially for someone new to the genre because it's very much a "My first turn based RPG" vibe. which it was meant to invoke at the time of creation.

    I’ve only started getting into the franchise this year, and I decided to just play everything in order. Starting with dq1 let’s you see how the franchise evolved over time, and you never have to get used to the jank of older titles if you just play all the oldest ones first.

    • @gsp1995
      @gsp1995 4 месяца назад +1

      I started with 1 as well and I loved the simplicity of it It hooked me right from the start! Playing them in order is really a great way to appreciate how far the franchise has come and it allows you to divise all the new features and recurring monsters, items and themes!

    i had a similar experience to Brendon when i tried to get into turn based RPGs. it was Final Fantasy VII that really got me into the genre. i had played through Persona 4 and later 5 but they never clicked for me in the way FFVII did. a little while later i tried Dragon Quest XI and it astounded me and has since become one of my favourite series. it was actually through your Dragon Quest XI bonus and the GBA special that i discovered ITA!

    I found the very first NES game at a swap meet for $7. Played it and loved it. Afterwards, I went online and bought every other main numbered game (sans 10) and played through them all in order. I finished the last one, DQ9, just in time before 11 came out on Switch.
    FYI, DQ3 is my favorite.

    Anyone else play Dragon Warrior Monsters 1&2 on Game Boy?

    Am already hooked into DQ but I love to see these kinds of videos, its great to see different perspectives. Back in 2018 I bought an used Nintendo DSi just because of Happy Console Gamer's video about DQ IX that popped into my feed one day, and it was my first game!
    Then I played I, IV, VIII and V. Amazing, amazing games. I hope I can have some powerfull enough machine someday to play XI and soon to be XII. Great video guys!

    Welp, I'm playing 11 right now (OG pc version with orchestral soundtrack mod), I already defeated the final boss so I'm just walking around and grinding a bit before letting go... I had 8 on my list, so I guess it's the best one to jump to once I retake the franchise?

    Play 11. I mean it's the latest, prettiest, and beginner friendly. It has a lot of features to help people through turnbase combat if they hate it, and it doesn't force you to grind. Once you've fallen in love with that, I'd say go to 6 or 9. Or maybe the switch's Dragon Quest Monsters. Unless you're really wanting that old school experience then it's best to do that. That said, if you're the type of person asking where to start, you're not looking for a grind.

    I played VIII on 3DS first... but honestly I didn't like it all that much at first. I found the ways the game implemented its mechanics were really cumbersome and the game felt slow to play, not to mention how obscenely difficult some of its bosses can get even very early on (that blasted squid). When I tried revisiting it through the PS2 version it felt much better in spite of having a lot of the same flaws, I guess because I got better and that version looks and sounds better. The real game that got me hooked on the series was IV, which was both easy enough and engaging enough for me to see a Dragon Quest game to its end, and then the rest is history. IV gets my top recommendation personally. (However my favorite still remains a toss-up between V and VII)

  • @arturboy777
    @arturboy777 4 месяца назад

    Dragon Quest 1 might be one of the weakest and more barebones entry, but I think that makes it a great place to grasp the concept of an RPG if you're totally unfamiliar with it. Teaches you the basics and it's very short. Playing it first will make you appreciate how much progress the rest of the series made.
    Also, I'm going to say that Dragon Quest builders is a great game to see all the enemies behave in live-action for the first time.

      That and DQ3's 2D/HD remake STILL doesn't HAVE a release date its been at least 2 years SINCE Square Enix announced its remake and due to Toriyma's Death Chrono trigger getting a PS4 PS5 Switch remaster like they did for Chrono Cross is just NOT likely or at least NOT for THIS year.
