I love your trellising. One of my favorites is cucumber sandwiches (to go with tea parties!) "butter" your bread with cream cheese, sprinkle with dill, place cucumber slices 1 deep/ 4 slices fit easily on a slice of bread. Crunchy goodness!
I love cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, and red onions sliced and marinated in Italian dressing. I knew cucumbers could be grown vertically, but never realized the suckers should be pruned off. Thanks for the great tips!
My Go-to recipe is to slice and smother with Tajin (Chile powder). Although, as I prepare for my first cucumber harvest, I'm looking forward to enjoying one off the vine and experiencing the true flavor of a fresh cucumber.
I'm grow cucumbers for the first time this year and did not think of pruning like I do with my tomatoes. Note for self next year or if I replant this year. Thanks Brejette!
Cucumber and tomato cut up with an Italian dressing is tasty. You explain things so well in your videos. It makes it so easy to understand. Thanks! 😁. Will try this method next year.
Great info! Makes so much sense. There are always those veggies that you don’t see that get too big and I sure hate to throw any cukes out! I love to make green gazpacho with my cukes go a warm summer day. Add to a large chopped cucumber - a green pepper, a spicy pepper, some cilantro, parsley, a splash of sherry vinegar, and a handful of sunflowers seeds, salt amped pepper. Purée in a blender. Best if it’s cold! Thanks San Diego Seeds!
We are loving the Low and Lean method we learned about in your videos. Our tomatoes (not ripe yet) are huge and healthy looking. Looking forward to using this method for cucumbers too.
great video! I've got my cukes on a cattle panel trellis this year but I'll give the Low & Lean method a try in the future! Years ago in elementary school my best friend turned me on to cucumber & swiss cheese sandwiches with mayo and black pepeper. Its still a favorite!
I'm excited to grow cucumbers again. I planted some marketmores. I've struggled with powdery mildew so pruning to one leader sounds great! My favorite way to eat cucumber is either fresh from the garden or a simple tomato salad. Thank you for another great learning opportunity!
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany Thank you for your advice and encouragement. Your taking the time to respond means so much to me! Now , the tough part waiting for germination!
We trellis our cucumbers and love it! Saves space and I actually think they grow better due to the air flow. I don’t have to search through the vines either! We eat cukes every way possible, such a great versatile vegetable.
Doing this as per your other vid w/tomatoes Made this system for both tomatoes and cucumbers and am LOVING it So much space saved! Cukes are slow this year with unseasonably cold nights but allowed me to put in Sun from rise to set Thank You for all that you do!
I’m growing cucumbers for the first time this year, in a grow bag. I can’t do the lower and lean method there, but I’m so glad for your recommendation to prune the suckers. I will see if there are some that I can trim away. My favorite recipe with cucumbers is simply sliced and dipped into hummus.
My family doesn’t care for cucumbers but we love PICKLES!!! This will be my 2nd crop of cucumbers ever and this video was super helpful. Totally using my tomato hooks, thanks so much!
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany well, I got a late start this year so they’re only about a foot tall but luckily I’m in SD too so I hopefully am not too late. Just strung up my first cuc 🥰. But I love you guys and your seeds, they always germinate!!!
I’m going to have to try this!! In southern nevada and my cucumbers aren’t doing super well. My favorite cucumber recipie is PICKLES that’s why I’m growing them! It’s my first ever garden so I’m learning a lot!
I love this recommendation! I've been looking for something to grow a living curtain, and I think this will be perfect! As for favorite recipes, I'm lazy, so the most cucumbers get from me is salt and pepper before munching begins 😁🤤 Thank you for all your tips and tricks! If you're not careful, your videographer will be starting their own channel 😉
We make pickles with all our cucumbers except the single one here and there in our salads. I'm in search of a good pickling recipe that allows the pickles to stay crisp after a year.
Planted late, and had some soil issues, but finally getting some blossoms on my cucumbers (all male so far), so I'm looking forward to a harvest not too far away! I was just looking at seeds for a Carosello Barese, and thought if I buy them I could share with you since I don't need a whole pack by myself. Still contemplating that purchase.... I've never pruned my cukes, so this weekend they are getting the big trim!
This is cool, I'm growing my tomatoes this way right now but hadn't considered doing cucumbers this way. I usually end up with way more cukes than I know what to do with though 🤣 I usually just put them on my salad... Husband doesn't care for them so I don't make a lot of exciting cucumber recipes since I'm the only one who eats them.
I love to add chopped cucumbers to homemade pico de gallo and put slices in summer bbq sandwiches along with homegrown tomatoes and lettuce. Yum! Sometimes I also give my eyes a wonderful, relaxing treatment using a couple of cucumber slices and drink cucumber-infused water. Thanks! - Zee, N. Cali zone10a
My recipe is just slice, chill and ice cube and peppers Thanks for the chance for seeds 20 minutes ago I was planting a roll.thanks for your other helpful videos again
Thank you for all your tips! We will be trellising our cucumbers this year since they are in our front yard. My favorite way to eat cucumbers is to peel and slice and marinate in lemon and soy sauce. Best after they've had a chance to sit for a few hours in the fridge.
🌺👍Yes, I do trellis up, so easy to see cukes. My cukes has been fruitful this year. Good tip on pruning, I just started pruning this year, what a difference. I need to do a better job with my tomatoes🤔
Last year I had a good crop of cucumbers in my raised bed garden, but they were, as you said, sometimes hard to find. I was trying to figure out a better way & loved your trellis method. I am going to use it for my cucumbers & tomatoes this year. Thanks!
Thanks for explaining the low and lean method. As a newer gardener I appreciate your tips. I put cucumbers in my water for a cold refreshing drink in the summer or just eat them with hummus. Can't get enough!
I'm doing my tomato strings, cattle panel and the awful tomato cages ( but the larger size) Strings are best but takes more time Panel are in time ( figure 30 years of use ) are the cheapest. THE TOMATO CAGE more expensive after you added a stake for support. Clips has many purposes. Help train limbs and avoid breaking Thanks
I grow my cucumbers up the 2x4 posts that support my tomato trellis. Basically I bookend my tomatoes with cucumbers on either end. I just started pruning off suckers this year and it makes for a nice, neat, compact plant with nice straight fruits. Thanks for another great video!
I am back to give the feedback! This method rocks, thank you thank you thank you!!!!!! I tried it on my young cucumber, in one month, i started to see lots of female flowers. Today i got 6 female flowers opened, and another 6 probably will follow tomorrow, from just one plant ❤I’ve never seen so prolific cucumber plant before. I also tried it on the older cucumber that I have been ignored for a long time and it turned into a leafy monster. Not very successful though, i guess it was too late for them.
I love this system! It seems so simple and inexpensive to make. I live in Florida, zone 9b and really have a lot of disease problems due to the high humidity. Going to have to try this system. Thanks so much.
That is a neat way of growing cucumbers. I wonder if it would work in my area because we can sometimes get very strong winds and the sun in intense. I’ve never heard of sun scald on cucumbers though. Is it a thing?
Thanks to your advice, I’m growing my tomatoes using the low and lean method this season and having great success. Looks like I need to do so with my cucumbers now!
Thanks for all of the information! I have actually never pruned them so excited to do this and see the difference. We usually get so many we end up juicing them.
Good timing on this video! A few days ago I checked on my cukes and saw they were starting to get out of control. Last year I had a terrible time finding cukes in the mess of vines and Ben though they were trellised, and I think the bees had trouble finding the flowers to pollinate because I had a small harvest. This year I re-routed some of the vines up the trellis, but after watching your cuke pruning video I went out and pruned just like you did. I’ll watch for side sprouts and remove them. I’ll also see if my production will improves despite/because of removing the excess growth.
I have had a horrible time with my cukes this season. I got bad soil and had to dig it all out and dump it. Then it heated up early this year, so now I have shade cloth over it. I'm hoping my fall crop is better.
Amazing advice. I love this idea of keeping the vine vertical and reducing the ground space of one plant. Allows me to plant more and get even more cucumbers! Please enter me in your giveaway! Thanks Brijette
My favorite cucumber recipe is turning them into pickles! I have family members that love just cutting them up and tossing them in a salad though. I have 2 different varieties but so far I've only gotten 1 cucumber and they're not doing well at all. It's sooo sad. I think I need to get out there and do some pruning. Is there a minimal amount I should do for a first prune? I don't want to super stress the plants out in the Arizona heat.
Thanks for showing us this great trellis system❤️ I think I will apply it to my garden this year!!! And Question✋🏻, if I am growing bush type (short vine) cucumber, should I still using this method to prune it?

Thanks, great tips! I will start pruning off those suckers!
I love a creamy dill cucumber salad with tomato & red onions 😋🥒🥒🥒 sooooo refreshing!
love making tzatziki too with Anita’s coconut yogurt!! 😍
Hard to choose a favorite cucumber recipe. Love pickles, tzatziki, and Greek salad.
My favorite cucumber recipe is cucumber tea sandwiches. Slice them on a mandolin and put them on bread with cream cheese and dill 😋
Yummy!

Cucumbers are handy in deep summer here in zone 8b, replacing arugula and lettuce on top of burritos/tacos
Love the replacement.
I love cukes also. Simple easy cuke recipe is no brainer, sour cream with lots of pepper and some salt. That's it, jessie
I planted cucumbers a little too soon and lost all but one. I sure could use some seeds = ))

Fresh off the vine!!! That's how my children love to eat them. A quick snack while playing outside and not having to go inside.

Weekly pruning will help keep it at bay for a while. Here in San Diego, it's just a matter of time before powdery mildew happens.
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany Thank you for your advice and encouragement. Your taking the time to respond means so much to me! Now , the tough part waiting for germination!
