    An epic track battle between a Camaro ZL1, Mustang GT350R, Mustang GT350, and a track prepped Cobra Mustang at the April 20th, 2019 South Carolina Mustang Club and Track Club USA event at Carolina Motorsports Park. I finally got some head to head action with my Camaro ZL1 against a good driver in a Mustang Shelby GT350R. #camaro #GT350R #mustang

    SCCA Time Trials now classes the Camaro ZL1 in the S1 Class. The Mustang GT350 and Camaro SS 1LE are in the S2 Class, which seems like the appropriate classing.

    Awesome laps, I just tracked there for the first time with my 1LE last week(I have over 200 laps there in my S2k and other cars).. LOVE the Camaro it's comfortable to run sub 150s constantly

      Thanks man. I've run a couple 1:46.x laps, but know that a 1:44.x is possible. I love that track. I'm going to be there for the October SCCA Track Night in America.

    Fun stuff to watch, especially in the winter months when you can't get out and do it, to bad the Camaro was saddled with an automatic, would have been nice to see it at its full potential

    • @BeastZL1
      @BeastZL1  3 года назад

      Thanks @Mr. Smith. We can't wait to get back on track especially since the car is totally prepared. The A10 auto is consistently faster on the road course and up to .5 seconds faster in the quarter mile than the M6 manual. Less engaging, but faster. Thanks for commenting and watching!

    • @ginicholas4322
      @ginicholas4322 3 года назад +1

      Yeah it's tough to beat an automatic these days I'll be still getting a manual camaro for the "fun" aspect

    • @alsmith7270
      @alsmith7270 3 года назад

      @@ginicholas4322 Good choice, I've been tracking and racing cars and motorcycles for many years, the manual is a far better choice, it will last forever, the automatic will not, I am much faster with a stick in my hand as are most expert drivers, all of the fastest cars at the track are stick shift.

    • @ginicholas4322
      @ginicholas4322 3 года назад

      @@alsmith7270 Don't get me wrong I love manuals but it's tough to argue that a manual is faster than today's autos, more reliable maybe. There's a reason why engineers, at a certain price range, install automatics in performance vehicles. Nissan GTR, Porsche 911, c8, McLaren, ferrari 488 all have automatics. The professional racing version of them, 911 RSR, c8.r, 488 GTE and Formula 1 all have semi-auto sequential transmissions that shifts faster than the autos just not as reliable. Even old school Nascar cars avoids using the clutch.
      I don't think we can avoid the inevitable. That's why it doesn't really matter to me if an auto is faster I'm getting it for the fun rather than solely for the speed. For that I'd get a c8 for ~$70K.

    • @alsmith7270
      @alsmith7270 3 года назад

      @@ginicholas4322 Yeah Nick, I don't want to argue, I think we are pretty much on the same page, all of those cars you mentioned are not even available with an automatic except the GTR and it is by no means a track car, NASCAR does use a manual trans only for its extreme durability, I would bet that old Mustang, that was the fastest that we could see in the video was a manual, Maybe a T56 behind a Chevy 383, just guessing, I use a 93 Camaro, been tracking it since 93, 383, T56, 212,000 miles, have never opened it up, (the tranny) this old Camaro will run with anything produced today, the Camaros that have the 1LE suspension with the manual trans and the Goodyear R1s can be difficult.
      The tracks I go to the Porsches manual equipped have proven to be faster than the sequential, hard to say though, could just be better drivers, they tend to choose the manual for the durability and fun factor, we are doing this for the fun, right.
      The automatic Camaro's I have been up against have given me no problems.
