    I went to a Thai gym with Thai shorts as a karate athlete and apparently just like a belt you have to earn the shorts. So coach didn’t let me off that easy when he found out it was my first day.

    Throwing in an insight as a Muay Thai fighter myself, she’s not wrong about how well you take to these kicks. The flexibility that comes with karate will help a TON!

    Nat, you probably saw this already, but the knee bend that you started your Muay Thai front kicks with, when Nina was first demonstrating them, was completely gone when you tried it out on the bag. Quick learning, one would say. ALSO, IT'S COMPLETELY FINE TO BLUSH, NO NEED TO FEEL EMBARASSED!!!

    When you turned your shoulder more for the low kick that was good. When you do the same for the Roundhouse you'll notice the power on a bag. Same when you throw the arm to help with torque!
    Other thing I've been taught is keeping the non swinging hand up for defence..

    I started doing muay thai coming from kuokushin and it was so fun, but what was even more fun was eventually mixing martial arts, now I'm trying to mix in my kyoku thai with some tkd and maybe even somethng else someday

    Muay Thai for low kicks, side teeps and teeps, and Karate for side kicks, hook kicks, spinning back kicks and high kicks ☝️ Combining both is great 👍 But there are a lot of Muay Thai fanboy keyboard warriors who talk smack about Karate

      The problem with karate from a combat sports perspective is not the techniques but how it is trained. If your only goal is to get better at fighting there is no reason to do Kata at all for example.

      @@DragonguyA It's basically antiquated shadow boxing. Alot of the techniques in karate Kata are meant to be grappling related but many of them are impractical and there's not much reason for 95% of them to be done in an I shape that starts and finishes at the same spot. The way they are practiced today it is essentially a dance. The initial concept was to train many people at once and to give a way to practice karate individually without a partner. Judo has Kata as well but they are much shorter and much more obviously applicable.

      @@Kettvnen Thank you, since writing this comment, I’ve used these two styles to drastically improve my kickboxing, allowing for more creativity, helping me beat people much stronger and larger than me in sparring, I landed a karate head kick and finished him with a Thai leg kick, he fell down, but then, as a good sport, I shook his hand and we ordered pizza together

      bent knee = use of stabilizing muscles (natural way). straight knee = speed is needed for balance (forced way). physics.

    Karate Kicks such as crescent kicks, hook kicks, snapping front kick, back kicks are seen and done in Muay Thai to it's not specific to karate at almost all karate kicks are in Muay Thai and Kickboxing

    5:25 perfect analogy. Imagine your rubbing a stick between both hands but on the end is the head of a mop. You twist the stick up your standing leg and the kicking leg is the tendrils of the mop, just loose and whipping through the hip
