I went to a Thai gym with Thai shorts as a karate athlete and apparently just like a belt you have to earn the shorts. So coach didn’t let me off that easy when he found out it was my first day.
Throwing in an insight as a Muay Thai fighter myself, she’s not wrong about how well you take to these kicks. The flexibility that comes with karate will help a TON!
I like that Nat is learning from other martial artists and cross training. It’s so cool. Good job, as a fellow karateka. From a Goju Ryu practitioner to you😊
Nat, you probably saw this already, but the knee bend that you started your Muay Thai front kicks with, when Nina was first demonstrating them, was completely gone when you tried it out on the bag. Quick learning, one would say. ALSO, IT'S COMPLETELY FINE TO BLUSH, NO NEED TO FEEL EMBARASSED!!!
When you turned your shoulder more for the low kick that was good. When you do the same for the Roundhouse you'll notice the power on a bag. Same when you throw the arm to help with torque! Other thing I've been taught is keeping the non swinging hand up for defence..
I started doing muay thai coming from kuokushin and it was so fun, but what was even more fun was eventually mixing martial arts, now I'm trying to mix in my kyoku thai with some tkd and maybe even somethng else someday
Muay Thai for low kicks, side teeps and teeps, and Karate for side kicks, hook kicks, spinning back kicks and high kicks ☝️ Combining both is great 👍 But there are a lot of Muay Thai fanboy keyboard warriors who talk smack about Karate
The problem with karate from a combat sports perspective is not the techniques but how it is trained. If your only goal is to get better at fighting there is no reason to do Kata at all for example.
@@DragonguyA It's basically antiquated shadow boxing. Alot of the techniques in karate Kata are meant to be grappling related but many of them are impractical and there's not much reason for 95% of them to be done in an I shape that starts and finishes at the same spot. The way they are practiced today it is essentially a dance. The initial concept was to train many people at once and to give a way to practice karate individually without a partner. Judo has Kata as well but they are much shorter and much more obviously applicable.

Interesting. When Jesse Enkamp the Karate Nerd was learning his Muay Thai style kicks for an MMA fight, the instructor said the leg stays in sync with the hip.
