So I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer it and sharing your experience with Sifu Edmund. I hope people in Wing Chun treasure the time they have with there Sifus, training partners and friends. Sometimes we forget how fleeting these moments can be. A big thumbs up for what you mentioned about biz systems! One big mistake everyone in the physical culture industry (be it general fitness/ martial arts) does is that we just focus on the exercise part assuming that our love for it is enough. I learnt it the hard way that it is not so! If you can, requesting you to do make full videos in which you share you biz acumen- including what you consider to be the obvious/industry standard. That's a great idea for a course or even a book! Thank You!

    Interesting that the Nora Miao / Bruce Lee interaction in Way of the Dragon was quite similar to Lois Lane and Clark Kent in the first two Superman movies. Until the big reveal, the audience (and Lois) saw Clark Kent as a country bumpkin from Kansas, bumbling his way around a big city. I wouldn't go as far as claiming that Richard Donner was influenced by Way of the Dragon, but it's fascinating how the same 'archetypes' appear. .

    Entertaining as ever.
    Funny that you mention the English dubbed version of Way of the Dragon, causing confusion in the ‘language barrier’ scenes. Another similar example occurred in the Cantonese dub of Fist of Fury - where the translator first brings the two Japanese men to challenge the JingWuMen school, bringing the 東亞病夫 sign. One of the Japanese men asks him to translate supposedly from Japanese to Chinese. But it’s all still in Cantonese lol.

      Also 八斬刀 should be pronounced baat jáam dōu in Cantonese - a Mandarin pronunciation for an art form primarily promoted through Cantonese is a bit of a non sequitur. As in your comment you correctly used Cantonese spellings for Yip Man and Leung Jan but then Mandarin pinyin for the knife set. Sorry to be pedantic on this, but as a language geek this is like mixing Spanish and Portuguese words in a sentence and kills my eyes.

    Great episode! Thank you for answering my question! Sorry, I mistranslated it, I meant 8 core concepts of Wing Tsun Kuen! e.g. 1. Lin siu dai da; 2. Magnetic zone/field; 3. Bei dui bei; 4. continuous attacking; 5. Trapping hands. 6. Yee da wai shiu; I learnt these core concepts like this in HWTO in Hungary from my Sihings and Sifu Maday, but I don't know the cantonese names of these core concepts! Have a nice day Sifu Alex!

    What's up Kung Fu Genius and Dre. Long time listener. As a Jeet Kune Do instructor and Wing Chun practitioner I've always been interested in learning chinese. Recently I started to learn Cantonese. I'm still a beginner but I know you are more advanced with speaking and reading Chinese characters. I can't seem to find the right Chinese characters and or proper pronunciation of the Jun Fan Gung Fu form "Ung Moon". Though, I'm pretty sure the way we are pronouncing it is wrong. Any idea what the proper pronunciation and characters of the form are? Love the podcast keep up the great work.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! I remember having this conversation with BIG Sean a while back. I think the form is ngh muhn meaning five doors or gates. I'd have to see the characters to confirm that. The word ngh means five and is pronounced like hmmm and muhn is "moon" but in a low tone.

The problem is can they be honest with themselves without lying to themselves?? In my mind, the whole concepts of wt fists, is based on butterfly knives, especially due to some movements tgat maybe dont make sense, anyother how but as a knive In hand, its totally different. Not emphasizing to much strenght In punches too, Maybe due bcoz it is not such an important thing, when techniques are done with knives.
    Same sort of evolution where weapons like spear or sword system has become empty hand form, wich basis is still the same as with weapons. Is seen other chinese kungfu styles too, at least what comes to southern forms.
    Genius, what do you think about emin botztepes wing chung? Also what is your overall view about the old event, that happened between him and w cheung? Meaning was it that serious, and worth of what occurred, and was emin right back then calling out w cheung.?
