Hey Alex. Just had to tell you I've posted a video on my channel issuing an open challenge to *beerdy* (waiver and all).
Someone has to stand up to this nonsense. Thank you for the inspiration to challenge this prick🤣🤣🤣🤣🥊
Wow! I didn't think you were going to answer that question guys. I know it was a very "heavy" question, and I know you like to keep things light, positive and fun. So I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer it and sharing your experience with Sifu Edmund. I hope people in Wing Chun treasure the time they have with there Sifus, training partners and friends. Sometimes we forget how fleeting these moments can be. All the best to the AMAZING KFG team for 2022. Health, Love and happiness. 😀🙏🙏🙏🙏😀
Thank you for that! All the best to you and yours as well!
The guy who helped Ip Man with Baat Jaam Do was Grandmaster Baxter.
That's why Bruce threw against him a punch that affected him as a sweep.
Another great episode. As a wing Chun woman I find some answers you give, like a mini seminar. I appreciate it a lot. Keep educating us. ☺️🙏
I try!
Hi Stella..
To the fella who still has the aging Sifu going to his school 🏫 & share his knowledge my deepest condolences🙏!! An educator never stops educating regardless of the subject. Keep learning from him ,write down & memorize all he offered for it's U & your classmates who continue his legacy as heirs of his knowledge 🙏.
A big thumbs up for what you mentioned about biz systems! One big mistake everyone in the physical culture industry (be it general fitness/ martial arts) does is that we just focus on the exercise part assuming that our love for it is enough. I learnt it the hard way that it is not so! If you can, requesting you to do make full videos in which you share you biz acumen- including what you consider to be the obvious/industry standard. That's a great idea for a course or even a book! Thank You!
Great question!
One of the most reasonable well informed Wing Chun commentators on the internet...
Thank you
Another great podcast, I've been listening while at work ,you guys make my nights go faster 😊 thanks . I am not listening in any particular order so sometimes I get confused, specially with the the story about Dre being fired (now I know it was a joke 🤣) you guys are hilarious. And about DK yoo proved to be a paper tiger 🤣🤣🤣
As a Chow Ga guy, I know the story from our point of view. Would be interesting to hear it from the WC camp! Love these episodes, keep them coming!
Drison 🤨? I understand your expression of the questions this guy asked , Sifu Alex. Musta learned how to endured questions like those.A LOT!! 😏
Interesting that the Nora Miao / Bruce Lee interaction in Way of the Dragon was quite similar to Lois Lane and Clark Kent in the first two Superman movies. Until the big reveal, the audience (and Lois) saw Clark Kent as a country bumpkin from Kansas, bumbling his way around a big city. I wouldn't go as far as claiming that Richard Donner was influenced by Way of the Dragon, but it's fascinating how the same 'archetypes' appear. .
As someone who used to co own a school, I can attest these are def some good tips here on runnin schools like a business. 🙌🏾
You speak from experience brother!
@@TheKungFuGenius yessir 👍🏾
RIGHT ON 💯👍👍, Sifu ,it's not the style it's the individual 💙 the way U put that
Cool episode KFG ! :)
Thank you!
Great episode. Especially on the Baat Jaam Do, DKY, and the haramaki (腹巻). I used to think it was the nipples too until I came to Tokyo.
Thank you!
Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast Mr KFG.. I do enjoy the MMA sorry AMA episodes. Now to come up with a question.....
Lol
Hey Sifu Alex good episode, I like your intelligent And common sense answers.
Tell my wife this please
Hi Sifu Richter, have you read the Tao of Wing Chun, if so what are your thoughts on it. If no do you plan on reading it? The history of Wing Chun other than the legend hasn’t really been told. Happy New Year!
Great question
Happy new year team! Thanks for answering my question on Dk yoo. We now know how that turned out!
I’ve never watched The Green Hornet, and no one seems to talk about that much. Do you think it’s worth a watch? I’ve also never seen Game of Death aside from the Bruce Lee fight scenes. Am I better off not watching this?
Many thanks!
Entertaining as ever.
Funny that you mention the English dubbed version of Way of the Dragon, causing confusion in the ‘language barrier’ scenes. Another similar example occurred in the Cantonese dub of Fist of Fury - where the translator first brings the two Japanese men to challenge the JingWuMen school, bringing the 東亞病夫 sign. One of the Japanese men asks him to translate supposedly from Japanese to Chinese. But it’s all still in Cantonese lol.
Hot nonsense
Dre's question picks were on fire this episode.
He’s good!
Yip Man learned Bā zhǎn dāo from Leung Jan's family descendants.
And your evidence to substantiate that claim is…
Also 八斬刀 should be pronounced baat jáam dōu in Cantonese - a Mandarin pronunciation for an art form primarily promoted through Cantonese is a bit of a non sequitur. As in your comment you correctly used Cantonese spellings for Yip Man and Leung Jan but then Mandarin pinyin for the knife set. Sorry to be pedantic on this, but as a language geek this is like mixing Spanish and Portuguese words in a sentence and kills my eyes.
@@TheKungFuGenius I am very sorry but I am not an expert in the Chinese language. The evidence about where Yip Man learned baat jáam dōu is the records of the descendants of Leung Jan's family, more specifically the disciples of Leung Bik.
Great episode! Thank you for answering my question! Sorry, I mistranslated it, I meant 8 core concepts of Wing Tsun Kuen! e.g. 1. Lin siu dai da; 2. Magnetic zone/field; 3. Bei dui bei; 4. continuous attacking; 5. Trapping hands. 6. Yee da wai shiu; I learnt these core concepts like this in HWTO in Hungary from my Sihings and Sifu Maday, but I don't know the cantonese names of these core concepts! Have a nice day Sifu Alex!
Thanks for clarifying - Sifu Leung Ting does not teach “8 core concepts” in this way - this sounds like a Hungarian concept.
Thanks for answering my question. I was referring to the lat sau attacks that GM LT teaches. At one point he himself indicated that the double hack should not be taught. I assume he might have been reserving that for more advanced instructors since it looks like something out of Biu Tze.
Nope, pretty standard.
What's up Kung Fu Genius and Dre. Long time listener. As a Jeet Kune Do instructor and Wing Chun practitioner I've always been interested in learning chinese. Recently I started to learn Cantonese. I'm still a beginner but I know you are more advanced with speaking and reading Chinese characters. I can't seem to find the right Chinese characters and or proper pronunciation of the Jun Fan Gung Fu form "Ung Moon". Though, I'm pretty sure the way we are pronouncing it is wrong. Any idea what the proper pronunciation and characters of the form are? Love the podcast keep up the great work.
Thanks for your comment! I remember having this conversation with BIG Sean a while back. I think the form is ngh muhn meaning five doors or gates. I'd have to see the characters to confirm that. The word ngh means five and is pronounced like hmmm and muhn is "moon" but in a low tone.
@@TheKungFuGenius thanks for the reply! Good to know I was somewhat on the on the right track!
Dude!! Rumors, by the Timex Social Club from the 80's!! Cmon Bro!!🤣
Hey hey hey… take it easy!
@@TheKungFuGenius 👍👍..great episode Alex!!
LOL!!!
@@TheKungFuGenius Calm down Tito 🤣🤣🤣
That's the other one, right?
Greetings from Athens. I'm a big fan of your podcast. I would like to ask a question. If you were assigned to write a book about Bruce Lee, about events in his life that no one has ever written. Mention some unspoken facts that you would like to include in your book and the average person does not know but should know about him. 🐉😊
Great questions!
A lot of times I post right out of here. Like.. I’m here.. hanging out with you n DRIZZAY and I’ll push the button m boom. It’s been getting crazy lately.
I think it is a misunderstanding of the nipples. When ever I saw a movie 🎥 with Japanese characters' involvement their was the clothes over their mid section describing their identification as Japanese people
The Bruce Lee films were first released in Mandarin language in HK not Cantonese, the Cantonese dubs were done much later for, i think, the first VHS releases. Great podcast as usual!
👍🏻
I know Shaw Brothers Period films were usually released in Mandarin... didn't know Bruce's films were initially released in Mandarin, I wonder why though?
Because don't they typically speak Cantonese in Hong Kong? Unless maybe they were trying to gain success in Taiwan or the Mainland
@@cyborgchicken3502 they just folllowed the trend set by Shaws and did all films in Mandarin. It wasn't until after the success of Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master in 1978 which were in Cantonese did films start to change back to Cantonese language.
what thoughts does the kung fu genius about bruce lee's fighting ability against mma fighters?
Great question
I want to see a detailed demonstration, man.
Thank you for your comment. This is a podcast, not an instructional channel. People who want to learn from me are more than welcome to come to NYC or to book me online. But teaching on RUclips for free? No thanks.
I can't wait for this one!
It’s a fun one!
How did you get into writing for wing chun illustrated magazine?
Great question!
Thank you for this great episode 🙏 you are doing an awesome job👌 I have a simple question : what do you know about the photo of Yip Man doing fook sau during Siu Nim Tau with iron rings? Was he doing a similar workout that is found in the Hung Gar ? ... or maybe it's a faked photo 🤔?!
The photo was taken during Bruce Lee‘s 1965 photo shoot. I think it was taken as a bit of a goof just for fun.
I watched a video today of Dominick Izzo teaching a guy “What to use inside when trying to FORCE ON FORCE stop one hand.🤮omgoodness. I leave comments, I spill my methods, to try to help. Nothing gets answered, then I see that. 🤣💥he was using a QUAN SAO with a left tan and right bong. In the guys center. Standing southpaw. Cross body QUAN SAO’ING
I believe a practitioner who has a fair amount of knowledge in the martial arts he or she learned in their past should be able to teach themselves. The problem is can they be honest with themselves without lying to themselves?? Some of us loves the roses petals threw to us glorifying our Yang ☯️ but ,can't take the thrones Yin that comes with glorification( objective criticism) U can't be with yourself, your self taught martial arts will lead 1 to ultimate despair😪
5:25 It’s like.. “How do I explain to a student (saying how and why we need to just practice, get better, learn stuff, and flow.”) “Oh, ya, just cut in with a BUI SAO, rip a PAK SAO GUA CHOY n if he tries to block.. DECK HIM. (With the empty hand) 😎💥
49:52 lol
IMO there is a secret to BJD/knives and that is their real purpose is to act like 'heavy hands', or weighted hands to help overdevelop the immovable elbow and the bridge arms and the wrist tilt. FWIW. It's not really to learn how to 'fight' with short knives.
Timed Social Club - Rumors
I’m not the eighties genius
Great episode. In my mind, the whole concepts of wt fists, is based on butterfly knives, especially due to some movements tgat maybe dont make sense, anyother how but as a knive In hand, its totally different. Not emphasizing to much strenght In punches too, Maybe due bcoz it is not such an important thing, when techniques are done with knives.
Same sort of evolution where weapons like spear or sword system has become empty hand form, wich basis is still the same as with weapons. Is seen other chinese kungfu styles too, at least what comes to southern forms.
Genius, what do you think about emin botztepes wing chung? Also what is your overall view about the old event, that happened between him and w cheung? Meaning was it that serious, and worth of what occurred, and was emin right back then calling out w cheung.?
That the Wing Tsun fist fighting combat “comes from knives” is a European theory. Grandmaster Yip Man said the knives are derived from the fist fighting techniques in his 1972 New Martial Hero Magazine interview.
@@TheKungFuGenius thanks for education. I didnt know this prior today.
God bless.
Sifu, that harameki was supposed to grant that Japanese spy good luck 👍?? His luck ran out the moment he under estimated Bruce's powers as a martial artist
Hi big fan of the podcast, highlight of my week, honestly (what can I say I live a very sad life lol) was wondering if you had checked out Tom bleecker, the author of "unsettled matters" considers foul play in Bruce Lee's death, RUclips video was wondering your thoughts and got me thinking, do you know whatever happened to Bruce's butler Wu ngan ? Love your video's and their content, Jake
I haven’t had a chance yet to check out Tom‘s videos, but they keep showing up obsessively on my feed so I guess the universe is conspiring for me to watch them!
Yeah there are a couple you should definitely check out, especially his Bruce lee death conspiracy one, keep up the good work love your content
Much appreciated!
Excuse me
That’s walking in the rain
Totally screwed that up
Hiyaah..!!?
Oh that Ding Hao guy. I aksed similar questions and somebody tried to tell me that he was the star protege of WSL......I tried to explain to them how that's impossible and he just started calling me a bunch of slurs. Fuckin wild man.
People are idiots.
Another fun episode!
Questions for you (just answer here is fine, no need for an AMA):
I know that Bruce Lee was trained to use the nunchucku, he got some training from his brother in Epee fencing and self taught himself in Kali stick fighting, but what other weapons was Lee trained in?
I know you said he didn’t learn Long Pole in his initial Wing Chun training, but did he learn it from another teacher, self taught himself, learned in martial arts books or just did it for film?
He did not learn the Wing Chun long pole (I’ve seen the photo and … nope)
@@TheKungFuGenius safe to assume Bruce improvised the long pole in ETD then.
That was not the Wing Chun long pole he used
@@TheKungFuGenius I honestly can’t tell the difference🤯

Smh
Hopefully there will also be hot nonsense from RUclips!
Looking forward to you carrying on the high standards from last year Mr KFG!(this was probably filmed 4 months ago lol)
Something like that haha
Not trying to bash anyone...respectfully saying....DkYoo proved that he really doesn't know how to fight! All theory, but in practice (recent match he had)...it was just a joke sadly!
Think the same !
He was called the new Bruce Lee !!!
But unfortunately he believed self this.
What annoyed me most was he claimed he didn't really watch Bruce Lee but just studied various martial arts.
I have previously seen him do that skipping back shuffle that BL did in WOTD & ETD so immediately knew he was full of it.
@@amk8411 ya.. that dude is fake. 💥🥊💯
Feng Kwai-sher....come out
Sorry, I don’t watch English or Mandarin dubs so I don’t know this reference!
@@TheKungFuGenius the infamous nipple scene my friend
Exactly what Bruce said about martial arts nonsense! WC Masters & their descendants trashed & debut which W C is authentic or not!! Their's no branches on a tree when their's dissensions among 1 another!! If a W C Practicer from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is more affective than The WC Practicer from USA 🇺🇸?? This is the downside fame & recognition!!
Excellent segment, Si-Gung!!!!!!!!!
Item 1: 'Wetson' may have a serious problem with Si-Suk Dre Ison. to paraphrase what Denzel Washington says in the movie "Training Day," Dre is surgical with his $%!t. Not to disrespect 'Wetson,' but, my loot is on Si-Suk Dre. I was on the business end of those surgical strikes and was like 'Damn- I didn't see that coming!"
Item 2: I have that copy of Elmond Sifu (Issue #30) at your urging.
Item 3: When you say "Take it easy,' try saying it in Spanish 'Cojelo Suave!" It works, Si-Gung. You can say it with the same cadence. As a former rapper, I can show you, but, I'm sure you'll figure it out on your own.
