Nice guide! I’ve been eyeing an ARP 9 for a while now. Just wondering if you had any recommendations for motor speed and gear ratio. I wouldn’t use full auto, but I’d probably use the three round burst. I’d keep the spring stock, so my priority would be snappy responsiveness and fast bursts
Thanks! The ARP9 already has a pretty solid motor but you can definetely get an even higher torque motor if you have money to spend. I would also recommend putting in a 13:1 or 12:1 gearset to improve trigger response. Also, get the biggest battery possible that will fit in the buffer tube - people tend to underestimate what the battery can do for their gun; the bigger the battery and the higher the discharge rate, the more responsive your trigger will be!
6scientist Wow! I was not expecting such a fast reply on a relatively old video. Thanks for the recommendation! I definitely plan on getting a high discharge 11.1v LiPo. Good to know that the stock motor is solid. I think I’m going to replace the barrel and flat hop it first and leave the gearbox upgrades for a bit further down the line.
Sounds good! If you're going to get a longer barrel, your fps will increase. You can use this to your advantage and use a weaker spring since doing so will maintain the original fps as well as increase your trigger response and rate of fire as the motor doesn't have to work as hard.
6scientist Great tip! I really like the maneuverability of the 5 inch barrel, so I haven’t decided if I’m gonna go for a longer barrel or just a nice Prometheus
BLOOGaming In my opinion, it’s really not worth it to upgrade to a 5 inch prometheus. At such a short length, the difference would be close to none. But if you are looking to get a longer barrel, then a prometheus will definitely outperform other brands. Also, the stock G&G bucking that come with the ARP 9 is very good, almost comparable to the accuracy and range of a flat hop. Hope this helps you decide!
if the shimming is too tight, the gun won't shoot because the gears are too hard to spin. If there are no shims, the gun may shoot for some time but the excessive movement of the gears could cause gear wear and failure which can also cause your gun not to shoot.
I was searching like for any way to get info, but uh I ordered a gng v2 gearbox to start new for my build, and I got that shell. None of my tappet plates fit and now I understand why cause thats for the arp9, now my question is, what tappet plates will fit this shell.
That’s weird. Any version 2 tappet should fit. What tappets have you tried? I believe I’ve used an SHS tappet in this gearbox and it was fine. If I remember correctly, the g&g tappets are slightly thinner than standard so you might have to sand it down a little. Also, how exactly does it not fit?
@@airsoftscientology8885 So to clarify, I only got the shell alone, and the shell presented on Evike, which is the one I want, which comes in the G&G combat machine. The one they sent, the shell presented in this video, is the one I have now. So with that said, i figured there were thinner tappet plates, and I used the old one from the stock G&G gearbox I have, the one from my Echo1 gearbox, and a Guarded poly tappet plate. None fit, and I saw that the tappet plate in yours has some sort of cutout. I ended up shaving and sanding the portion on my old tappet plate, and now it fits, but I would like to know if theres any tappet plates that fit this particular gearbox.
@@Skorch420 Oh I see. The tappet plate in the video is just the stock tappet plate, I didn’t cut or sand anything myself. Really weird how a g&g and guarder tappet didn’t fit in yours though. I would say a g&g tappet should fit this gearbox but you said it doesn’t for you so I would say that an SHS or Ace1Arms tappet should fit. I found those to be the most durable and fit most gearboxes. Often times the tappet fin - the part where the sector gear stub touches the tappet plate, has to be worn in. Manufacturers give an extra bit of plastic on the fin to make up for the different tolerances between gearboxes so that’s why it might fit a bit tight at first. Not too sure which cut out you’re talking about but if it’s about the shape of the fin then that’s just how it wore down over time from being pulled by the sector gear.
@@airsoftscientology8885 Sorry, I didnt say what cutout, I mean the portion near the nozzel, the L cutout on both corners of the tappet plate. And I didnt even know any of what you mentioned either so I will be taking that to mind when slapping in any new tappet plate.
Yes of course. I didn't want to show the whole shimming process since that would add like 30 minutes to the video XD. Plus there's already plenty of shimming tutorials on youtube which explain it better than I ever could.
It’s single o ring. But to tell you the truth, a double o ring has no advantage compared to a single o ring. Also, if you want to get really technical about it, a double o ring could actually lower fps compared to a single o ring since it applies twice as much friction on the cylinder head. This means it will take a longer time for the nozzle to seal with the bucking, causing a greater risk for air leaks once the tappet plate and piston is released.
Can you by chance link where you got the parts from? Also, is the arp9 a good beginning gun for airsoft? I kinda wanna get into speedsoft as soon as i start playing.

How can you lower the FPS? I've been planning on getting the arp9 for a little and got a huge list of upgrades. I'm trying to get the most speed and response and not as much FPS.
Simplest way is to use a weaker spring. This gives you the best of both worlds; the weaker spring will lower your fps as well as increase rps and response as the motor has to do less work thanks to the decreased load of a weaker spring. If you want to stay in the 300fps range, go for an m100. An m90 spring might bring you into the 200s due to the arp9's short barrel but if your compression is good than you might be able to stay around 300 with it.
vinny You can’t really be 100% sure what the stock spring is but according to my calculations, mine came stock with an m130, but this can vary depending on where you get your gun from. If a stock arp9 chronos in at around 380 fps, then it’s probably an m130 spring.
Yes, motor heat is a normal occurrence in any build, especially in higher stress builds. What I did find in stock arp9’s though are that they are shimmed extremely tight- or at least the ones i’ve worked on. This causes the motor to work much harder then it has to, leading to greater heat production.
I was wondering that too. I concluded that is was just a place to hold extra shims - since that’s what it was holding to begin with. It doesn’t really interact with anything in the gearbox and it doesn’t hold anything together so it’s really not that important.
I'm working on one of these guns atm my God they are shit! The gearbox is straight up pot metal No quick change spring either and to top that off the internals are cheaply made for 300 bucks I definitely would say invest in a krytac pdw or something else instead. you definitely get better trust me theres a reason these are rentals and starters they break and you get better lol
Oh yeah they’re a pain to work on at first, especially if you’re used to working on higher end aeg’s, but you get used to it after a while. And I agree, for the price, they definitely should have added a quick change spring. If the one you’re working on still has the stock piston head, I would recommend changing it since it was the first thing to break on mine. But overall, it’s still a great gun. The one in the video has been abused for almost 4 years now (and still going) and it’s never failed on the field.
