Tusk in Radar I thinks his roar. They gave him so much more personality than many a kaiju with that almost Hyena laugh sound he makes and he has such a cocky attitude in several scenes too. The guy is great heel villain, Toho should have used that aspect of him more for Godzilla’s brand marketing. I mean, they’ve already acknowledged that Manilla/Minya is failure through their Gojiban/Godziban puppet shorts, why not play up the wrestler tropes for Titanosaurus?

1975: Godzilla ends his career slowly wading out to the ocean as the sunsets.
(symbolizing how this era, though long and arduous, ends on a somber note and while the battle was won, the future of the king of the monsters is uncertain)
1995: Godzilla ends his career dying but not before passing the torch to a new generation.
(symbolizing that while "A" Godzilla may have died the legacy of the King of The Monsters will live on and be reborn)
2005: Godzilla ends his career after taking on every kaiju in a boss rush and coming out on top.
(symbolizing that while the King of the monsters has had to go against what looks like an impossible task, can stand on his own and come out on top in the end, much like his then 50 year career)
We don't know where his career may go from the 2014 release on up, but from what we've seen.
From a proper American release that manages to give us 2 films that are amazing, as well as a rematch between Kong and Godzilla, to a new Japanese film that gives us a much darker Godzilla while still being engaging and thought provoking, to a less than impressive anime movie series, and finally a cameo in an Anime film about super heroes.
Godzilla is here to stay and will always be, The King of the Monsters

This movie is one of my personal favorites of the Showa Era, while I loved the previous film (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla) this movie is just all around great. A great intriquing human story Katsura is one of the best female characters of the entire series, Titanosaurus is a unique Kaiju and I never had a problem with his roar even though it does get a little annoying at times. Mechagodzilla is as badass as ever. This movie also probably has Godzilla's best entrance. This movie also has some of the best Kaiju battle scenes found here. The scene where Godzilla comes out of the ground and rushes at Mechagodzilla and Mechagodzilla fires at everything he's got on him and Godzilla just keeps on going. This is definitely my third favorite film of the Showa Series.

I love Terror of Mechagodzilla so much. It's one of my favorite Godzilla movies of all time. I like the characters and tone Honda went with, trying to add that serious tone to Godzilla similar to some of Honda's previous films while keeping the fun of the series at the time. I also feel that Honda's direction allowed for some of the most unique and in my opinion fantastic cinematography of the series with the low angles and panning shots during the kaiju action, especially around this time. Katsura is one of my favorite female leads in the series with her interior battle between doing what's right and helping her father. I also love Titanosaurus and thought his design fits nicely into the Godzilla series and Mechagodzilla is as awesome as he was in the previous movie. I can see why this movie didn't do so well when it came out & why it's not a favorite of many fans especially coming after Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla which is just fantastic. I guess For me, Terror of Mechagodzilla was a great end to the showa era, a nice final Ishiro Honda directed Godzilla film, and a great Godzilla film as a whole.

  • @HatCreature
    @HatCreature 5 лет назад +24

Oof, the battle between these three felt like the most grueling and hardest battle Godzilla had until that point. Sure he had a hard time with Hedorah but this was different, it was the first time he fought two Kaiju by himself. The fight itself felt like a great ending to this era of G films, every ending needs that final epic battle after all. My only gripe about the film, besides everything you mentioned, is Titanosaurus' design. He just came across as this weird creature as if Toho had run out of ideas and threw this together, the tail fan is cool and a great weapon to blow down a city but like Mothra, it felt out of place against Godzilla himself. That being said I think T is really cool by himself but just an odd idea for a Godzilla opponent, if I had that version of that Godzilla game I would totally wreck cities as Titanosaurus and wished he was in the 2014 game.

I actually prefer this one over the original MechaGodzilla. Sure, MechaGodzilla is a good film, but after marathoning them all (well, as many as we could, we ran out of time before KOTM) in a row, MechaGodzilla sorta... Blended in with the others to me. Sure, it was trying to be darker and had more of a budget, but the alien plot had been done to death by that point and the tone still felt light hearted.
Terror on the other hand, while still reusing the alien plot for the nth time, had such a dark tone the whole film, a real sense of dread, and a sense of desperation in the Godzilla scenes, it really felt like he was fighting for his life towards the end. A dark send off to the Showa era, but a satisfying conclusion nonetheless, and easily in my top 5.

    • @ShanaReviews
      @ShanaReviews 4 года назад +2

so true on that last part. While i am the opposite. you're absolutely right with how this film took a sharp turn towards the dark tone especially since this time Godzilla is on his own facing off against 2 foes and as we saw in Mechagodzilla's debut film, Godzilla had to team up with a monster and get a super charge just to stand a chance against him. now his doppelganger got the upgrade and has an ally with him which raises the stakes.

Terror of Mechagodzilla has always felt more epic than Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. The story itself is very intriguing and take seriously. The monster action is some of my favorite. The destruction scene and Godzilla’s showdown with his 2 opponents are definitely highlights of the entire series for me. Ishiro Honda and his crew really gave it their all to produce one last outing to an era.

Is Terror of MechaGodzilla actually one of the best Godzilla movies, or do I just love it due to my love for MG1 & Titanosaurus? Hear me out. First of all, it has a great soundtrack. The ending song is one of the best of the entire franchise, and is so touching given the final scene, but we’ll get into that later. The movie lacks a lot of cheese for a Showa movie, and in my opinion has some of the coolest (if not the coolest) Godzilla villains of all time. Mechagodzilla looks menacing and powerful, and Titanosaurus looks awesome by his side. The fight scenes are awesome, given how good the kaiju look, and explosive too! But, even more importantly, the human plot is actually incredibly substantive and significant. You care about the characters and their tragic stories. From the belittled and taunted Dr. Mafune turned insane by his failed works, to Katsura, (the cyborg created by Mafune) who wants to be a normal human and falls in love but is slaved to control Mechagodzilla by the Aliens that Mafune befriends in order to kill Godzilla and prove that he can finally be successful in something. The tragedy doesn’t stop with the humans though, as even Titanosaurus has a tragic backstory (the only other tragic kaiju backstory in the Showa series other than the ‘54 Godzilla) where the simple, peaceful dinosaur was turned into a violent Godzilla attacking beast by Mafune who learns to control his mind. Towards the end, Titanosaurus finally snaps out of the mind control and wants nothing to do with the violence anymore, but is killed by Godzilla nonetheless, who is unaware of Titanosaurus’s personality change. Which brings me to the ending, and the truly tragic death of Katsura, who killed herself in order to stop Mechagodzilla from being controlled by her. Mechagodzilla is then destroyed, Titanosaurus is wrongfully executed, Mafune loses his final chance of being successful with anything, the rest of main characters, especially her love interest Akira Ichinose who tried so valiantly to free her from the aliens are left in dismay as Akira holds her lifeless body, and Godzilla stomps off into the sunset sea, not to be seen for another 7 long years. There’s nothing happy about the plot, or the ending, and it’s this wonderful, mature tragedy (like ‘54) that makes this movie one of the best Godzilla movies of all time.

I love this film. It's my 5th favorite in the franchise and my personal favorite Mechagodzilla movie. I personally love the human story in this film and Katsura in my opinion is one of the greatest human characters in the entire franchise. It's a dark and gritty film but still manages to be a lot of fun. And I think this film does the hero Godzilla the best. It's certainly what I'd call an excellent swan song to Ishiro Honda's career. Of course after this, Honda's talents would be utilized with his great friend Akira Kurosawa in the following years.

Personally I feel like this film provided us enough drama for a emotional experience such as flashbacks showing the relationship between Kasara and her father or her love relationship with Ikira.

Slow paced as is it takes a long time for all the elements of the story to come together. Crammed as in the movie is only 80 mins and there isn't enough time to properly develop the characters.

This is definitely Godzilla at his strongest(in the Showa era), as he takes on not only a kaiju who had hurt his ‘best friend’ Angurius to such a point that he could be dead, and that it almost killed him himself, while also fighting Titanosaurus, a kaiju who has an insane control over wind. Not just that, but he also fought against the two kaiju twice, and survived both times. These two have proven themselves as competent threats, MechaG especially so, and Godzilla still triumphed.
Even if people don’t think this is the best Godzilla movie in the Showa era, you have to admit, the G-man did manage to fight two of the strongest kaiju in the original Showa era, and though he did get some help from the human cast, he did still win, physically, on his own. That’s awesome imo

Titanosaurus was pretty memorable to me just because he never felt like he was meant to be this overpowered monster. He was just another kaiju that got caught up in the antics of these people. One guy was very passionate about researching titano and then it got mind controlled and used by aliens just to give mechagodzilla the edge. It was a peaceful kaiju forced onto the battlefield because it was strong enough to damage godzilla. That felt realistic.

*sigh, I know I'm in the minority on this, but I actually prefer this movie to the first Mechagodzilla film by a long shot. Granted, I'm sure my nostalgia plays a huge factor since I've loved "Terror" since I was about five years old, but never saw the first Mechagodzilla until I was already in high school, so I had certain expectations going in that I felt were unfulfilled.
I actually really dislike the first Mechagodzilla film, tbh. I thought the whole subplot with King Caesar was pointless and misleading, since the simians go through through so much trouble to prevent his awakening because they fear his power, only for him to turn out to be such a push-over that Godzilla still does most of the heavy lifting. I also don't care for most of the characters. I thought Mechagodzilla was too overpowered even taking into account that he's the antagonist. And, speaking as a diehard Godzilla movie buff, I am forever livid at the mistreatment of Anguirus - he gets mercilessly beaten and retreats, and the film doesn't even give proper closure as to whether or not he survived.
"Terror", on the other hand, has only gotten better with age for me. I love the more somber tone and Ifukube's score, and Katsura is one of my favorite human characters of the franchise. She carries the film as far as I'm concerned.
It's all my opinion, of course. Feel free to agree to disagree.

As much as I enjoy Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, I actually prefer Terror of Mechagodzilla more, it was one of the first two Godzilla movies I saw as a kid(the other being Mothra vs Godzilla), & to this day its #3 in my top five alongside Mothra vs Godzilla(yes they're tied). Sure we don't see Godzilla till the last half of the movie, but I always enjoyed how despite its cheesiness, this movie had a darker tone & dare I say it more memorable human characters, plus Titanosaurus over King Caesar anytime. Dr. Mafune & Katsura are easily the best human characters in this movie, the Black Hole Leader Mugal is just as memorable a villain with equally memorable lines as the one from Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. I also like Mechagodzilla's updated design for this movie, sleeker build, new finger missiles, & a bit more of a gunmetal paint job. Last but not least, Titanosaurus, I love this monster, simple yet cool design, cackling roar, and as you said in your review, sympathetic nature. I hope someday in the future they bring back Titanosaurus whether it be done by Toho or Legendary.
    P.S. MECHAGODZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!! DESTROY THEM UTTERLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m really mixed on this movie for being the final Godzilla movie in the original Showa series it kinda has lot to be desired I mean Godzilla doesn’t show up for an hour in and the actual “terror of mechagodzilla” doesn’t happen until the last 20 minutes of the film but I do think it has some really great things in the film it has a tragic love story, titanosaurus is a great monster with him actually being a peaceful creature and was only fighting Godzilla in first place because he was being mind controlled by the villains he’s definitely one of the more sympathetic monsters in the Godzilla franchise and the final battle between Godzilla, mechagodzilla and titanosaurus while it may not be as good than the final battle in the last movie is still a great fight scene overall I will say terror of mechagodzilla it is a good movie but I can kinda see why it is the least talked about Godzilla film and why it failed at the box office people were kinda getting tired of these movies but I still do recommend it for those who want to get into the franchise

Hm I think I like Terror of Mechagodzilla more. Despite the fact it should be called Terror of Titanosaurus since he gets more focus. I mean the first Mechagodzilla has a pretty nasty flaw of turning King Sesar into this HUGE fucking deal of a mcduffin with the statue...only to get whupped by Mechagodzilla and doesn't really do much when Godzilla shows up. Other than body slamming Mechagodzilla when Godzilla holds him in place that's it. I do love both movies for being like night and day. One's very bright and jazzy while the other is dark and moody.

However as I got older I hate the final part of the fight because Mechagodzilla doesn’t do much and they use the stock footage of him using all his weaponry and I find that lazy. Also GodZilla beats him very easily and the treatment of Titanosaurus i also find offensive as he gets beaten around after he is freed of his mind control.

Not a fan of Titansaurus, mostly because of the design and the roar. Though it is a really tragic monster. Also Mechagodzilla was too much in the background to the point he felt little more than an afterthought. The aliens' suits just look ridiculous, even compared to previous alien invadors. Also, plastic boobs.

The suit caught on fire totally on accident, and it looked so cool they left it in the movie.

Have you watched the heisei Gamera series and the Mothra series? Or have those not come to the US
Both trilogies are received much better than the Godzilla series.
From a film making stand point (story, pacing, dialog) the heisei Gamera trilogy is done very well.

For me this was a huge step back from its predecessor. The story was more unispired and badly executed and the Kaiju fights were too rare to convince me. Sadly one of my least favorites

I just don't find this to be a good follow up to Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, so little of the previous movie (the successful one) is left intact. No characters return from the previous movie, and as mentioned in this video the pace is awful which is bad considering the short runtime. I disagree about Honda's return to direct this movie, he's no doubt a good director look at Godzilla 54, and his other works, but if I didn't know any better, and I was told Honda directed Godzilla all Monsters attack, and this movie I wouldn't believe it they're that generic/bad. The Showa era of Godzilla isn't really my taste, apart from the original, and a few others, most are just campy fun ranging from decent to flat out bad.

I like this movie and last time seeing Godzilla protrayed as hero in order to save the earth of his territory and saving Japan from MechaGodzilla 2 and Titanosaurus.

The finale to the Showa era, and this is a pretty good send off. This film has some of the best action of the series (especially the last battle between Godzilla going up against Titanosaurus and Mechagodzilla). The human characters arent quite as good as the characters in the last film but are still better than quite a few Godzilla film's, I also love the dark tone and dark soundtrack in this film, and this film has one of it not the best Godzilla entrance. But the film's biggest problem is the pace. The film is pretty slowly paced. Godzilla doesn't even show up intill the halfway point and Mechagodzilla isn't released intill the last 23 minutes. Also Titanosaurus has a annoying roar, the movie does have a couple plot holes and really this movie should be called "Terror Of Titanosaurus" because he gets more screentime than Godzilla and Mechagodzilla. This is a pretty flawed film and if it had a bigger budget it could've been better. But the end result still makes this one of the best of the Showa Era. I will give it a 7.2/10.

I agree that a longer runtime could have helped flesh this movie out a bit, but it is anything but shallow. I would call it the most thematically rich entry besides maybe the first Godzilla.

yup, but the part we don't hear enough is the fact this film had to compete against 2 blockbuster films for Japan at the same time (I heard that on a Godzilla fan forum).

This ones fun but I found the settings are kinda bland.. the night time battles are fun but this movie is devoid of any colour, bland dirt land scapes and the grainy picture don’t compliment that very well. Compare the colour from ebirah to this and it’s literally night and day, the 70’s films just have this bland and boring vibe to me. While it’s fun to see Godzilla whoop some ass it just lacks the excitement and colour that the prime of the 60’s era had. I’d give this a 2/5.

"A bit drab". To say the very least! "Explosively entertaining"? That's a HUGE stretch. Poor editing and weird closeups make for a boring monster battle. The movie is 80 minutes long and feels like three hours.
    "Joyous send-off"? 😂😂😂
