      Dude, thanks a lot! Regarding indigenous communities - it is very complicated. As far as I understood, you may even get an official permission (which is hard), but then community itself might decline your entrance. By the way, many locals told me that situation got much more intense doing the Bolsonaro presidency, especially in the state of Pará.

      Hey, well, last time I was ill, I had a urinary tract infection. I think I mentioned it in some video like a couple months ago, but it is not the type of sickness you would like to brag about too much... antibiotics and a lot of peeing around... 😅
      I've been moving around (either backpacking or seeking part time employment) for almost 8 years now, I guess, some might say I was living really fast, occasionally. And I'm not sure whether this will make you feel better, but I had a fair share of nasty infections over the years... I just try to keep it cool, get the right medication (if needed and if possible) and overcome.

    Don, you are riding through the epicenter of forest destruction, land theft, drug runners, you name it….From experience, you have better chances of visiting Indian aldeas in Acre. Once in Peru, there is no such thing as not being allowed to visit Indians. There you go…same for Bolivia. Are you interested in drinking ayahuasca on this journey? When you get to Maraba stay on your toes with your street sense. You should check out the enormous open pit mines nearby. It’s on a scale unimaginable. Displaced tribes are strewn about its wake. Wish I was there to share a campfire…I can’t even imagine what is ahead! 2:52

    • @DonShapoka
      @DonShapoka  2 месяца назад

      Hi, I've been to Maraba already, I'm heading west. Southeastern part of Pará barely has any rainforest, other than indigenous reservations and some small patches scattered between the cattle ranches...
      I did ayahuasca roughly two years ago, but not in Brazil :) It was quite of game changer for me, to be frank. I'm not rushing to repeat it, but the time will come.
      Greetings! :)

  • @michaelbailot5479
    @michaelbailot5479 2 месяца назад +3

    Oopa! I looked at a map,finally. You are long past Maraba and almost out of Para. When you finish the Transamazona, how do you go up the Andes? I have travelled the road that goes from Rio Branco in to Boliva and also into Peru. It is paved and will take you to Porto Maldonado in Peru, where another paved road ascends the Andes. Twenty years ago these were all dirt roads, impassible in the rainy season.

    • @DonShapoka
      @DonShapoka  2 месяца назад +1

      Oopa! Yeah, for now my plan is to cycle down to Lábrea, since I would like to complete entire Trans-Amazonian highway. Afterwards I will need to go back to Humaitá. My ultimate destination is Lima, so I may cycle directly to Peru, or I might make a little circle around Bolivia and enter Peru afterwards.
      Actually, I really wanted to visit Manaus, but all depends on the rainy season that is coming :) But, you know, when heavy rains will come, I would like to stick to paved roads as much as I can, otherwise things may get nasty... :)

    • @michaelbailot5479
      @michaelbailot5479 2 месяца назад +1

      @@DonShapoka Manaus, of course, is Babylonia! However, a few hours outside of the city are hundreds of waterfalls, caves, virgin forest and lots of animals. You can access this on the paved road to Venezuela. The Rio Negro is very special too. I really bonded with that region-almost moved there. Black water-no mosquitos! And Bolivia and Peru are out of this world. Yeah, pavement until June. Best wishes man. You have inspired me.

    Hey Don,
    It’s me again.These Indian reserves are actually off limits to most people except government officials, or rarely anyone else. They just don’t hand out permits to anyone, This is to protect the tribes. The common cold can kill an entire village. Unscrupulous people enter their reserve, mine gold with mercury, steal and burn forests to add to neighboring ranches, they have been enslaved and prostituted and killed. But, if you make friends with an Indian along the highway, you might get a good glimpse into their village life. No more worries about forest fires. The rains are here to stay, the road turns to oatmeal, and yes, most of the land along that highway has been clearcut and ranched. Oh, how I love that forest! Good luck brother. Hope it’s ok I keep saying hi! Michael

    • @DonShapoka
      @DonShapoka  2 месяца назад +3

      Hey there! Yeah, I fully understand their point, there's a lot of tension going on between indigenous Brazilians and farmers/gold miners in the area. I knew my chances of entering these communities were somewhat slim, but still I tried. I've spent some time in various indigenous communities in other parts of Latin America, arguably among the most memorable days of my lifetime. Who knows, perhaps if not in Brazil, than later down the road in Peru (or Bolivia). Also it would be so much easier, since I could speak in Spanish and my Portuguese is still... it is still Portuñol 😅(although I'm working on it!)
      Thanks for following man, I'm so glad people with similar interests are digging this channel, I mean that's why I'm producing these videos in the first place :)
      Greetings from Sucunduri :)
      p.s. I'm about to hike pretty deep into the rainforest, so next video probably will be something different.

      @DonShapoka  2 месяца назад +2

Yeah, all way down to Labrea (wanna complete entire Trans-Amazonian highway) and will cross over to Peru or Bolivia afterwards :) It is really tough to completely capture the roughness of this ride... I'm trying to get some shots from time to time, but frankly, often I just ran out of patience, especially lately... :) I've visited Santarem on my way too :)

    Is graffiti on walls legal in Brazil ? They are so expressive.

    • @DonShapoka
      @DonShapoka  2 месяца назад +1

      Well, I'm not sure if that is graffiti. Street murals ('muralismo' in Spanish) is a big part of Latin American culture. Even small towns and villages quite often have entire public/private walls painted. Each time I'm back in Europe (especially good ol' north Eastern Europe) streets seem to be somewhat sterile or lacking personality if compared :)
      Although line between graffiti and mural is somewhat thin I guess :)

    • @DonShapoka
      @DonShapoka  10 дней назад +1

      Hey there, absolutely nothing ignorant about your question :) This burning is being carried out for cattle farming. Large sections of rainforest are being burned down, then area overgrows with grass for cattle to roam. Cattle farming is the leading cause for rainforest destruction and I've seen this in practice throughout all of this trip. Greetings from the Amazon! :)
