Back to Basics: The Decimate Modifier

- If you are working with a 3d scan, a heavily subdivided model, or a hard surface model where you just went a little heavy on the topology, the decimate modifier might be exactly what you need to get your poly counts under control without turning your creation into a glob of undetailed mush.

Thank you so much for this! You've saved my computer from crashing
Thamk you! This video explains it to the point but explains each decimate functions in detail with clear examples and cases/situations.
Really loving these comprehensive looks at one feature.
I'm glad you are getting something out of them!
Thanks Johnny for your tutorial. I will apply this to my models now....
I can't count the amount of times I've finished a model & realized I shouldn't have sub divided it early on. Thanks to this video that's not a problem anymore.
Cheers, stay safe & keep on smiling 👍
Yeah this is an overlooked gem!
Nice to go back to basics sometimes. Thank you for this great tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
This is exactly the information I needed. Thank you!
Awesome!
Excellent Tutorial
Very nice video, easy to understand and very helpful.
Glad you liked it
Thanks a lot.
Most welcome!
very helpful, thanks
You're welcome!
nice, thanks! is it also good to use the unsubdivide option to reduce the poly count of cylinders, ico spheres, and bevels? since its more consistent in the way it decimates?
i kinda just discovered the shade auto smooth feature lol and now i wanna reduce the high poly stuff i made after the fact
I love Tarkov, but having played with joypads for over 20 years, I find it very difficult to adjust to using the keyboard.
When I see the videos on RUclips, it all seems easy, but then when I go to try it seems to me that I must have 11 fingers on my left hand to be able to do the same things.
Honestly, I also tried using the joypad and everything goes well until it's time to aim. You don't have the same mouse sensitivity. Especially if the game is not designed to be played with a joypad ... you can see that it is not as fluid as many other games
Any tips on this issue I started having recently. When I go to decimate it doesn't preserve either seams or uvs despite the option and makes weird repedative markings near my seams.
