- In this episode I show you two of our favorite things to here in Islamorada, Florida Keys. First we go over some fishing tackle and then I take you out on the boat with us for a swordfish trip. We have one bite all day but luckily make it count. We also catch a bonus blackfin tuna. The second part of the video I take you along on a stone crab trip. We check our recreational traps and have a pretty good pull! We will be at the Miami Boat Show February 14 - 18th, 2024 so swing on by the Yamaha dock and the Freeman Dock!

Hi Charlie. Hi Madison. The rope tossing was funny. 😊
Yes it was!
@StanzFam The video looked like fun. Claire had to have ate a few of those crab claws. LOL. Claire always says, more! 😊
Capt. Nick, good video. Looks like you only like to go fishing on windy days or the weather man lies down there too.
Another great video,,,,, im seriously impressed with those nicksticks but im not going 1500 ft fishing,,, about 60 does me 😂
You and me both!
Nick do some more vedios with Madison

Nick send me a tuna for my bday next Wednesday. 😂😂😂😂 I'm here in broward county. Seriously just a bday shout out for Feb 21st would make my day brotha. 37 on that day
Happy early birthday!!
@@StanzFam thank you
Hi Nick, that was weird seeing the different parts of the swordfish moving while you were slicing him up! Really like watching you pull up the crab pots, Sarah!
For sure, thanks for watching
Hopefully you'll see me on April the 15th, and I'm Going fishing this time.
Cool, hope to see you down here
When you catch fish and use for stone crabs bait do you bleed out
Have you ever caught striped bass in the mid-atlantic or northeast, Nick? Would love to see you take the show on the road at some point and do some striper fishing out of NJ. The big cow bass run in the early fall (October) and catching 40 and 50 pound trophies is very achievable in a single trip.
I caught some off Nantucket years ago but just did a half day when I was there for a friends wedding. I’m hoping to do some more traveling and fishing/filming the next couple years
Yes Nick come up to New Jersey for the bass. It starts in a couple weeks
@Nick I heard you mention you were waiting for the sun to come up. Do you not like running in the dark? Bad experience? I do quite a bit of it on my 51', but it always makes me wonder what if I hit something big.
We have a Nite Track camera that helps quite a bit with running in the dark but we definitely like to run with a little more to be safe
What is the difference between in-shore & off-shore? Is the a set distance? I used 6 miles as in-shore, and beyond 6 miles a off-shore.
For us we usually consider inshore anything within a 1/2 mile or so on the ocean side like the flats and channels and then everything on the bayside. Offshore we refer to the patch reefs and onwards
hey nick, i am staying at the amara cay right next to yall till monday afternoon. do you think me and my dad can come ask you for the best inshore places and maybe good places to snorkel?
We are at the boat show in Miami through Sunday. If fishing on land the bridges south a little ways should provide some action. Snorkeling from shore isn’t great there but Bahia Honda is popular spot. If going on the boat cheeca rocks and alligator lighthouse are the two best spots to snorkel
@@StanzFam ok thank you and have fun at the boat show
What made you sell the 28 isn't it new?
Sold a 28* , not ours. We are part of the sales team for that model
is there a code for BOGO not working checking out on 2 tees?
It should be good , a couple people had issues but think it’s working properly now
When do the Tuna and Dorado start to really run?
Summer time is most consistent
Boat of that caliber should have at least a seakeeper as standard
Quick question for ya.. I’m retiring from the Air Force next year and myself and my family want to move down that way. Are there any decent paying companies around there that would like to hire. Something involving the ocean would be nice. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you for your service!
I would say the hardest thing about living in the Keys nowadays is housing. Prices skyrocketed since Covid and haven’t come down much. I grew up in the fishing business so that was all I really knew before I started doing RUclips, content creation, and selling boats. There used to be a lot more family owned businesses down here but the last 20 years there’s a lot more corporate owned business (hotels etc). You can definitely make a living if you get on the right boats fishing, diving, or doing eco tours, but just have to get with a good operation and they aren’t always hiring. Assuming you have retirement income from the Air Force that may ease some of the costs living here and a fair paying job still might do the trick to make it a reality. Hope that helps
@@StanzFam thanks bud. Any advice or help is always welcome. I will definitely be looking out for something that way. Anyway. Keep making awesome videos!
Have you ever caught a tagged fish and what is your truly favorite fish to eat
I have never caught a tagged swordfish but I have caught tagged sailfish, grouper, cobia, amberjack and barracuda
Not sure if I have a favorite, I love mixing it up between deep water grouper and tilefish, as well as tuna wahoo and snapper . I have had my share of swordfish
How much did the sword weigh ?
He was long and skinny, I would guess 85 lbs

How will the crab eat with both biters gone. That seem. So unfortunate for them. 😔
They can use their legs to bring food up to their mouths. They just become full scavengers, they also eat sea grass
I agree with it being unfortunate. A lot of sea creatures don't get the best treatment from us. This is coming from someone who has fished for many many years. They will not be able to defend themselves until it grows back however they can still eat food they scavenge. I am not from Florida but it seems that for stone crabs you can not harvest them fully and must only harvest the claws.
