STRANGEST FISH I've Ever Seen... (Catch/Clean/Cook)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 фев 2024
- In this episode we head out deep dropping off the Florida Keys. Golden Tilefish are the target and we have a Hooker Electric Reel rigged up, a handcrank rod, and a slow pitch jig rod. We catch some blackbelly rosefish throughout the day and then in the afternoon I catch the strangest fish I've ever seen! It ate the slow pitch jig and turned out to be a channel scabbardfish. We did some research and turned out it's a delicacy! Back home Charlie (BonaFideWorldGuide) cooks up a delicious meal!

😂
That fish looked similar to a ribbon fish we catch in North Carolina, great king bait
Definitely!

Haha thanks!

It’s always a good day/evening when you get a notification that Nick has a new video. Watching from the “library” no less. 😂
Thanks for watching!
Mr. Charley bonafide food guide is amazing!!! Yay!!! That plate looks fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Another great video. I have also lived in Florida all of my life and I have never seen a fish like that. I am glad it turned out great but not surprised with Charlie cooking it. I follow Charlie and I always enjoy his channel as well. I appreciate all of you, please keep the great videos comming.

another good one, love the cooking part
Thank you 😋
What a weird fish Nick! Glad it’s good tasting! Hugs
Glad to see someone else using a Rhodan. I am throughly happy with mine for 6 years.
Great to hear! We had them the last couple years and they’ve worked very well
Record on the Channel Scabbard fish is 8lb 9oz. I had to go check them out. Very little is known about them besides they are found at 600’ and deeper, they aren’t protected, they don’t have scales, nothing on aging or diet or how widespread. Record was caught out of Rio de Janeiro.
Interesting!
Looks like polished chrome 🎉 prehistoric definitely !
I think so too!
Wow, wow, WOWWWWW!!!
A belt fish, never heard of a scabbard fish at all ... Very tasty fried with cassava and chile peppers.
crazy looking fish
👍🏻
Nice…Yea I’ve Caught Those Fishing Aerosmith Bank in Mexico 🇲🇽 Nice Catch Dudes
Cool, thanks for watching!
😂Capt. Nic, your going to need a bigger jig for those rose fish. Good job keep them coming.
You got that right!
Great video man like aways god bless you and your family Juan Carlos Lopez from Brownsville Texas
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it
January 1977, I was standing in the B & M parking lot, and it was 33 degrees and snowing.
😳
Great video brother god bless you and your family Juan Carlos Lopez from Brownsville Texas
I appreciate it!
Scabbard fish filet actually was shockingly clean and good looking
It was much cleaner and whiter than I expected. Just a little hard to fillet since they are so thin
That is a Unicorn man!!! So epic it looks like a lifelike shiny new Clark Spoon!!! I was thinking Oarfish!! I would have had to rig that dude and pull him around on the downrigger!!!!
🙌🏻
You are correct. That is a channel scabbardfish
I enjoyed that video, the food looked really really good. The last time i got to go out on the big pond I caught a 64 pound white marlin had it made up in steaks on the grill very good also.
Good stuff!
Roses are actually very delicious, flaky fish. Beer batter and fried whole just awesome 👌🏻
Oh yes!
Yea Boy
That dish looks and sounds delicious!
So good!
Silver Scabbard fish made my top 10, without question.
Wow 😮
I want to see a cook off between Jamaican Mike and Charlie
Would be a good one 🙌🏻
Ready and willing!
Sashimi bro. Like we do ribbonfish. Fried good too
Wow that's so cool. I felt bad for Madison ❤️🩹. That dinner looked awesome Charlie 😋
It was a neat fish!
We harpooned a swordfish in SoCal this year that has a 3 footer in it. Pretty darn cool!
⚔️
Cool ! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Charles does an amazing job cooking but I'm team Jamaican Mike for life. What a cool fish
Watching Jamaica Mike is like watching Emerald Lagasse… watching Charles is like watching Bob Ross… both legends
I too, am Team Jamaican Mike
That Silver Scabbard is a cool fish, we used to catch some big ones near the North and South bridges in Fort Pierce Florida. A lot of people call them Ribbon Fish, but that is not the correct name, they are Silver Scabbards, and there are also Black Scabbards. It's kinda weird catching them near those bridges in Fort Pierce because they usually live in REALLY deep water, like 500 to over 2000 feet deep, and come up at night to feed. Cool catch.
You mentioned Oarfish, they are a lot different, they don't have teeth and they have really long thin fins that come off the top and bottom of their heads, and they get A LOT longer. like up to 30ft long. But I think most that are caught are around 10ft.
Interesting
I like the idea of the Nik stick, do you make a two piece one that would fit in a suitcase?
I have to say it doesn’t look like the best slow pitch rod for that weight of jig though…. The tip never straightens up so it’ll never have the slack it needs to flutter back down. Even with the best rods that’s hard to do in 800ft though I suppose
Thanks for watching. I don’t have any two piece rods. Definitely not the ideal jigging rod for such a big jig but it sure is fun when you hook up on it.
Caught something like that Rose fish in Qatar... "deep sea fishing" in about 25 ft. of water. =))))
Scabbard fish is in same family as cutlass fish an absolute Korean favorite leave whole cut into portions eat skin and all excellent to eat fried baked or grilled
Thanks for the info
I have the same transducer on a garmin8612xsv and the bottom doesn’t show up nearly as well as yours. What adjustments can I make to tune it better? Thanks Paul
Send me an email and I can send you something my friend recommended and made a slide show with. I followed it and then tweaked it a little more
In the caribbean we call it cutlass fish or ribbon fish, really tastes good, firm white meat...
We have cutlass fish and ribbon fish in America too, but they are different that this .
Took my boat out to pulley ridge last summer for deep dropping. Caught a lot of fish, but I definitely need more practice being able to tell a bite from the boat moving.
I’ve only been to pulley once but hope to make it back out there again one day. The more you guy the more you’ll be dialed in for sure
Great Video as usual guys, you don't need the background music though.
Noted!
You should have played “Whole lot of Rosie” from AC/DC 😂
Hahaha!
Looks similar (tail is different) to a ribbon fish we caught by the ton off Virginia Beach. No scales and razor thin skin so we deep fried the fillets with skin on and it was delicious!!
Need to custome make a big Ole three hook king fish rig and catch the world record kingfish on that thing.. big brother to the ribbon fish haha.
Yellow tail
That would be cool!!!
Silver Scabbardfish. The Black Scabbardfish is gnarly also
It could be a Razorback Scabbardfish …. 🧐
🙌🏻
What’s you guys answer for seasick people on your boat? I haven’t got seasick yet on my boat running into the gulf but I’ve had moments of not feeling great that passed. I’m always worried I’ll get sick mid trip and ruin a trip out.
Usually recommend original formula Dramamine the night before and the morning of.
Hey Mr. Nick never met you but I mated for David Heeter down in the keys a few winters ago. I work on charter boats out of Oregon inlet NC if you and any of your buddies ever want to come out of the inlet up this way and get on some tuna or try for a sword hit me up I’d love to see what you can find in an area I’m not sure if you’ve fished before! Be safe buddies!
Awesome! Thanks!
Dave is a legend!! Fishy guy!!
@@StanzFam I love that guy to death, doesn’t have the knowledge and experience you have but damn if he isn’t a close next in line he taught me a lot (most of it is the David way or the highway) but it works!😂😂😂
I caught them all the time in Corpus Christi bay in Texas. We called them Atlantic Cutlassfish.
Look similar to cutlass fish but a different species
That bird at 4:25 is called a Jaeger, possibly a Pomarine Jaeger.
🙂
First time I ever saw an episode about the file fish I looked it up and it's federally protected so I don't know if you know that or maybe my information isn't correct but last time I checked the file fish is federally protected. If that's true you better duck and cover. Hahaha.
Ted
You call it “evolution” I call it Gods wonderful design of creation
🙌🏻
My step daughter caught an even bigger one in 800fow(Mexico) they did eat it🤙😎 looked delicious.
That’s awesome!
Nick, that scabbard fish is so skinny you should name it the Bean Fish. Just a thought...🤣
Nick put some SEABANDS on board they work great I use to get sick every time now I haven't been sick in years thanks to the SEABANDS buy at your local stores what a cool fish thanks for sharing buddy.
Good to know! Thanks
Like the AC/DC song Whole Lotta Rosie
Haha yep
I think I like the 28 Freeman more than the big boys.
It’s a fun boat to fish on for sure
Sorry y'all I have to have my real butter, cheese, and milk!!! Just like my steaks 😂
😃😃😃
Nick that sliver fish I was told it was a ribbon fish
Similar, a little different
Can you post a link for Charlie please
Estoy aqui!
Just started watching does that smaller boat rock more looks like your really moving. Do you guys take medicine for seasickness
They all rock some when it’s choppy.
I just watched swordfish in 6 foot waves it wasn't rocking that much anyway keep em coming
Sara takes Dramamine to help prevent motion sickness.
Ok thanks
That guy can cook
Agreed!
You need seakeepers on all these boat!
One more thing to break and service. If I ever go back to a mono hull I would consider it
Thought they were called "Oar Fish" I don't know crap so I could definitely and probably am wrong lol
540 grams is a little over 19 ounces that's a heavy jig looks like a lot of fun
🙌🏻
he must have said a million words
😜
Cutlass Fish.
😊
So what kind of fish was that?
King fish bait
Could be!
💪
Frost fish
Close to a ribbon fish .
Very!
that fish at 14 mins, we get those in New Zealand. We call it a frost fish. normally catch them on cold clear winter days.
👍🏻
The scabbardfish grows to over 2 meters in length.
🙌🏻
Hey, has Jamaican Mike ran out of dishes to share with us ?
He’s got a few more I’m sure but I love a couple of his usual dishes!
Kinda looks like a ribbon fish
Jig was tied upside down
Isnt that the fish that appears when there's an earthquake, and strangely enough there was a 4.0 earthquake off the east coast of Florida and north of the bahamas. Few days ago
Similar looking but I believe it’s the Oarfish which was believe to be related to the earthquakes
Was that a fish of a lifetime?
No doubt brother!!
🙂
Channel Scabbard Fish is correct!!!
🙌🏻
Do a collab with Natalie and the Aguilars family
Scabberfish are black. Thats a ribbonfish! Big one at that. We catch them up in the Outer Banks in the summer
Channel Scabbardfish aka Silver Scabbardfish. Little different than ribbon fish
I got
Faith in the 28 she will help u with dinner!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
It Is a silver scabbard fish. There is also a black scabbard fish. Scabbard fish is edible.
👍🏻👍🏻
We use to catch these on a shrimp boat and tried to save them if they was still alive and throw them back
How do you not have a seakeeper..
One more thing to break and service. And the cats rock a fraction of a traditional monohull
Hello, I'm sorry to tell you that in South America, when you catch that fish, you think that a strong earthquake or earthquake will happen with a lot of damage, so be careful, be alert.
😳
Wow that's the same day we had an actual earthquake in Florida wt
Too bad Jamaican Mike wasn’t there to check out the scabbard fish. Bet he would of had a interesting recipe
🙌🏻
Seafood Stuffed Silver Scabbard with a Seafood Beurre Blanc isn’t interesting? You must have a hell of a culinary repertoire.
Except when drinking that filtered water out of that nasty rubber hose.😅
we call them ribbon fish where i am from we catch them off the pier.
Different species but have some similarities
Oarfish
Wonder what it tastes like?
*covers it in 5 other flavors
