Its a challenging job for sure but with extensions and some patience its totally worth it and doable. Well technically, you are suppose to take the exhaust off and slide it over and down that way. However, if you live where they salt the roads due to snow I would not recommend that. Let me ask you, How many miles you had on the car before the original starter went bad?
