My gym has it but nothing in the way of hack/pendulum. I kinda hate it, not to mention its a HS one and I have to stand on two plates to hit depth, otherwise the machine bottoms out around ~90 degrees or so
@@coltonchristie8268 yeah I find some machines I need to add plates at my feet for full ass to grass or use the foam blocks on your shoulders to add height. They are changing the back squat machine at our gym from sitting facing the floor almost and pushing up to have a proper hack squat where your led back and squat into the floor, if thay makes sense
It took me 23 months from order to delivery! I think you’ll find that they’ll pop up in fancier gyms or science based gyms more often. La Fitness I doubt will ever carry.
My gym got one last year and I gotta say it has become a valuable tool in my quad training. I work for a moving company so any way I can train my legs and minimize axial loading while maximizing stimulus is a win
I had one at an gym I went to previously. Not having it in the repertoire definitely sucks. But they're expensive and take up a fair amount of space. I hope more start popping into gyms. That and a proper nordic hamstring station
Most belt squats have a poor range of motion. The only one that has a straight up and down path and allows you to squat super deep is the Squat Max MD. The pendulum squat is my pick for max hypertrophy, but belt squats are good if you need to take load off your back
I have really bad tibial translation and now my knee doesn’t flex all the way. To all of you out there with healthy knees, don’t take them for granted and enjoy your leg days
I've been wearing Romeos while I work out because they have a pretty solid one inch heel and good ankle mobility. The leather upper is really helpful in protecting my feet from scrapes and stubs. Lol, they also make my footsteps audible so I don't have to worry about accidentally sneaking up on anyone.
I have some innov8 wedges that you strap on your normal shoes. No need to worry about sizing, carrying extra shoes around, trying to fit inserts into your normal shoes.
I started using heel support in my regular shoes and it’s definitely helped get more rom. I’m tall, have long legs, and have bad ankle mobility and these have really helped, using a plate under your foot if you’re on a smith machine can help too.
What can also work is RISERS or LIFTS (from the dollar store) to put in your shoes. Mine raise the heel 20mm (about 4/5 of an inch). I use them while standing on a thick cardboard lift that I stand on. Together, they give me about an inch of rise. I can go ATG with only the tiniest butt-wink and no stress on my lower back. It's great. Total cost: a buck.
Yo Mike your a legend defo one of my top 3 fitness guys on RUclips.. And 100% the funniest without question 😂 I don't understand why people always complain about leg day! I'm really enjoying trying to grow these skinny sticks 😂
I made the mistake of wearing my comfy shoes to the gym yesterday for leg day. I was a little out of it, tired grumpy, period etc etc. didn’t think much of it. But I couldn’t make appropriate contact in my glutes, and when I got home by back felt super tight. Had to stretch it all out. Definitely never wearing anything but my cons for leg day from here on. What a crazy noticeable difference!
This is the video I needed to hear. Goblets squats I have good depth, but back squats either limit my range or give me butt wink. I was stretching my calves and hams today and realized I am unable to hinge with a straight back, only like 15 degrees. I learned to stretch calves by supporting yourself on a wall in front of you, and leaning forward, and dropping your hips back with strength. Almost as if you were using the pull out method. I’m gonna go buy some weight lifting shoes and insoles asap!
The belt squat machine was designed by an Olympic power lifter that fucked up his back. It gives the burn of a squat without spinal compression or neck discomfort if you have a weird shaped body like me.
My take is to get barefoot shoes (wide toe box, zero drop, minimal amount of sole) and get a pair of the Versa lifts he mentioned. Take them out when not leg day-ing.
Stupid question: If you have good ankle mobility, like say you can easily do pistol squats to the max down position, flat foot, do you still get benefits from these shoes and/or heel supports?
after 10 years i finnaly bought weightlifting shoes and go ass to calves. squatts feel so much more sable and it s a big releave for my back, wich is good since i do 3 x fullbody
I'd like to have more info on why it is or is NOT healthy to be your size and what effects it can have on organ efficiency. Also thank you for having so much great content. Again, if this is already on your channel which I am sure it is please do not respond.
TLDR - MANY old fball injuries (ACL, dislocated shoulders & AC joints, torn muscles). Now 36 y/o and always hurting myself, re-learning how to lift properly and not like a ball player. Everything is very imbalanced left to right both presses and squats, etc. Any tips on training for someone like me?
Tried them, didn't seem to help. The gym I train at has bought a belt squat hardly anyone uses it, I do if I can't get on leg press. To be fair would have preferred an effective leg press (the current LP is not a good model, has a few problems).
If CBUM use the belt squat this way I mean barefoot it’s just that he wants to avoid femoro patellar tendinopathy. CBUM is 185cm height. Your advice Mike is 100% right for short people not for tall people.
I just do mobility work and now i can flex my ankles sideways and every which Direction. No special shoes needed, but yeah I doubt there's one of those machines in the entire state of Vermont
I play men’s league hockey like four or five days a week. As a girl, my quads are plenty big enough already thank you very much. They are absolutely massive to be certain and that’s called skating your ass off. 😅😅😅
I lift in my quality flip flops from Olukai. Been doing so for years. Deadlifts, front squats, everything. And no, I am not connected to the company at all.
My legs are stronger than ever since I’ve had my Olympic shoes I thought I was just training better than ever which is also the case but hey double whammy it’s a win win
Damn, RUclips just read my mind. The moment before this video popped up I was wondering if I should buy weight lifting shoes for squats. I guess this is my sign.
My gym just got a second hand belt squat. Used it today, after squats as a replacement for leg press. Only problem was, even on one of the steps the gym has, it was slightly high on the rack / unrack. Any idea how to make it easier? 5"11 and a bit for reference
Soo.. what if I've actually kept up with my stretching and can squat ATG easily still? In normal flat shoes. I already have more than sufficient ankle mobility that it is not the limiting factor so I don't believe weightlifting shoes would help me. Certainly not to the extent that they would be worth the extra expense and disruption to my training to get used to them. But another genius manlet's opinion is required.
What if you use 2x versalifts? I use minimal shoes and cannot handle standard shoes and the tiny toe box anymore. Wondering if i can use my normal shoes still. Right now i stick a 2.5 under each heel on the leg press.
I thought the biggest game changer for leg day was actually doing it
nice
Yeah gym bros are not ready for this information, a game changer would be to avoid bench and arm training during leg day 😰

@@gromswowguide7927 I'm not impressed by someone squatting their weight in plates, but someone doing 2 plates on a bench? Primo
I have been doing legs 2x a week for over 7 months and still have chicken legs😢
No one does belt squats because no gym has that machine
Yeah it's brilliant my gym had it. You don't need much weight as it's a about the way you lift, rather than the weight of the lift. Crazy burn

Been training for nearly 15 years in many gyms in UK and Sweden. Never once seen a belt squat machine.

I’m so blessed to have a gym that not only has a belt squat but a pendulum squat as well. Never seen these machines at other gyms

Dr Mike being really kind just telling us he’s a short king and needs lifts. No worries Mike. We still love you.
I have really bad tibial translation and now my knee doesn’t flex all the way.
To all of you out there with healthy knees, don’t take them for granted and enjoy your leg days
Excuses keeping you big as hell.
How to start leg day: 5 sets of 10 bicep curls, 5 sets of 8 bench press, 2 sets of 1 leg press and to finish 5 sets of 8-10 lat pull down.

In 1984, my Powerlifting coach sent me to a shoe repair store to modify hiking boots to include a 2" rise in the heel. Made a big difference.
I started using heel support in my regular shoes and it’s definitely helped get more rom. I’m tall, have long legs, and have bad ankle mobility and these have really helped, using a plate under your foot if you’re on a smith machine can help too.
Thoughts on a Squat plug?

Other name for rest day nothing special
It’s the day where you WALK to the gym and train arms.

This is Hella late, but the nike romaleos 4 are good if you need a little more heel elevation. Nordic lifting makes some higher ones.
