A Homemade Meal . . . From a Vending Machine
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 июл 2017
- In Japan, vending machines generally sell beverages and simple, readymade provisions. But fresh curry over rice? You bet. Along a lonely stretch of highway in Awa-shi, Japan, you’ll find a rare vending machine selling tantalizing homemade meals. Even better? The vending machine owner, Tadashi Yoshimoto, grows the rice in every meal just down the road on his own farm. In a country that prides itself on the freshness of its food, Yoshimoto has set a new standard for readymade fare.

Hello! I’m Japanese.
As of July 2022, that curry is still sold for 300yen.
and yes, Mr.Yoshimoto-san continues this work with his wife. now he is around 80. even Japanese “wow”
no doubt he loves his job and people.
here’s my rough translation of an interview article with Yoshimoto-san in the Tokushima Shimbun news paper.
Mr.Yoshimoto, who was once a truck driver as well as a rice farmer, often used the rest-stops in another Town.
one day he began to wish he could open a similar resting place in his home town to please other truck drivers.
(At that time, 24h open stores which can serve foods was rare in the area.)
After that, in 1982, he filled a part of his rice paddy field and opened "Coin Snack Gosho 24".
Oh good I was wondering how he was doing
I’m really happy he’s still alive and doing what he loves.

The portions of the rice and curry looks very generous compared to meals sold in convenience stores and fast food joint. Bless this man
@free democracy because while rice can make you fat mostly those that grow up eating it are fine, plus it's often cooked with just water. The rest is just mostly salt, and not too much fat. A hammer on the hand well, that thing will make you fat.

THE RETURN OF THE KINGS

If I ever go to Japan, I want to try this vending machine. ESPECIALLY the rice. Whenever I eat Japanese rice at a restaurant, I always make sure that I eat every single grain. I'm Japanese Canadian, and my Grandma tells me that this was a habit that my late uncle possessed as well. So I've made it my policy to eat the entirety of my rice to make him proud....
I’ve heard of this too among Asian cultures, especially if the rice is harvested by hand. 🤗
@@pauline5115 Yeah!
It’s simply bad manners to not finish the food you were given in Asian culture, it’s a respect thing. That also means they do not overindulge and buy more than they can eat therefore illuminating most waste, at least when eating in public
@@OverNightGamers Fair enough. Besides, who would want to waste Curry as delicious-looking as the one in the video?
When I was little I always left a lot of rice when I ate and then my mom said if you don't finish your rice you will be haunted for life. Even though I'm a teen right now, I still believe it😂
University/college campuses NEED this

Will never forget that lil vending machine in the middle of nowhere
Could you please tell me where i can find it? hope you still remember XD
Hi I have the same question. It would be nice if you could share the Google location for the same
Bruh the most amazing thing is that he refills it twice a day. He doesn’t even just put them in and just leaves it. He actually CARES about his customers, and that’s incredible
Right?! You can just *feel* the love he puts in it. When they opened the curry at the end, I felt his care come through my screen. People would pay big money for that alone, and yet he also makes it a big portion that's still so affordable for everyone. Very nice eye on that. Let me put you in on one I might have caught. I love film no matter from where. I like Japanese movies and of course anime and after more than a decade of watching other cultures Ive gotten to learn how to pick up the structure of a sentence or what they're saying as well as inflections;
You're right the cinematography was nicely done, guerilla style. I liked the close up shot of the guys face in the early part of the video, cause it showed his cheerful eyes. The golly disposition was further enumerated by his slight absentmindedness of his age. 0:45 nanajuu is 70, he got stuck on his age and yon is 5, ka is established or "am I". Guy is so enjoying being in his own world, he doesnt care about death and doesnt recall his own age. It was funny when I caught that...I wouldnt mind that outcome for myself when I'm older lol
Just a good man providing good food to good people.
The world needs more of this.
I have nothing but absolute respect for this precious man. Hope his food is always appreciated!
Japan's use of vending machines is pretty smart, especially in this man's case. It would be more expensive and consume more space if he started a restaurant.
Even if he sold the curry and rice at a stand, he would have to man the stand himself, or pay somebody to do it. This is a cool idea.
Lol, Japan even has a vending machine for used panties. They're smart all right 😂
profit where you can. there's a market, they supply it. So yes, they are smart. Though.. not so sure there exists such a machine. Source!
MusingsofaJay♡ Yes, there are. Though the main consumers are mostly females that require a pair panties in an emergency
Bhawna03 A sex store in 90's had them inside his store. It doesn't exist anymore. It was never a common thing in Japan and most Japanese don't know such thing existed. I've only seen westerners talking about with smirk and that makes me so sick. If some individual's creepy behavior represent whole culture then what would American culture be? Abducting a child and molest them in basement for over 14 years? and people say "Lol, U.S even abduct children and molest them in basement. They are amazing all right 😂"
MusingsofaJay♡ Good point! Just type "vending machine panties" on youtube and you'll get a lot of videos on it. :)
makes sense instead of making a restaurant or paying someone at a convenience store
seal3081 Yah it really does. .. surprised it's not more common
its for the introverted
in rural Japan, this is the restaurant as running a dedicated shop is rather hard given there isn't much people living around it.
And waiting for it forever
It makes a ton of sense. $3 for a home cooked meal? It's $2.25 for a bag of dorritoes where i live, more if your in a busy location.
This is just beautiful. I love those who take passion in what they do and you can clearly see he has heaps of it

I've been to Japan many times and am always impressed by the cleanliness and pride the people take in their communities. A vending machine like that in many US cities would be vandalized in short time.
It's actually in their native religion (Shinto). The problem is also we foreigners are "impure" (='kegare') for them, just like the garbage, sickness, immorality, or pregnant women around some shrines. That self-control just means they're venting somewhere else.
Kevin cooks food in the office.
@Everything Is Burning Like Fire LMAO
JoybuzzahzTV what the heck man? He just said that they keep it very clean! He didn’t say that anyone else was dirty, it’s literally a known thing that Japan is a very clean country overall. Maybe stop your Christian damage control on here and go do some research.
@JoybuzzahzTV You sure put a lot of thought into arguing points I never made.
I kinda now just wanna go to Japan and buy curry from that vending machine
Alisour The dinosaur I'm definitely going to find it when I travel after collage \(>,
Just buy the instant curry sold in Asian grocery stores. There is literally no difference. Japanese restaurants serve the exact same thing. It’s one of the few foods that virtually no upsides to being served in a restaurant
dxc I bet that even you know why he said he wanna go there to buy the curry from that vending machine (it is surely not because of the taste)
Reuven L, I'm guessing it's to chase a new, novel experience, that is really not new or novel. Any benefit you would get would be completely imaginary. I've been to many Japanese curry restaurants, cooked curry countless times, and love the shit out of it. If you look into how it's made, it's not surprising how the taste is very, very, very similar across every avenue it is served. I'm not trashing it. I'm actually a big fan of it. But it is what it is.
dxc The reason why most would want to even visit to buy from that particular vending machine is due to the fact that unlike the curry you get in restaurants or those instant curry, the curry from the vending machine is made by a 70 year old man, who works hard making a living off of the machine, making sure its not a harden/dry rice by refilling it twice a day, and uses his own rice that he also spent time caring for to make that curry. Yes the curry from restaurants and the instant curry does have the same/similar process at the curry in the vending machine, but to show appreciation for this man who spends the time and is dedicated to this, people would want to visit. Yes, you should also show gratitude to others who work just as hard to produce things we use, but the ethical appeal in this scenario is the main focus.
This is the kind of life I’d like to live, a very humble and down to earth business that’s brings joy to others
Such an honest, dedicated old gentleman! I aspire to be like him when I grow up.
I am impressed of how much tradition and honor goes into the japanese culture. It's like a way of life, being proud to do what you do, even if you will continue to do it every day following.
The real question is if he's making any money doing it versus the money and time he spends on it.
no its not, hes not in it just for the money, he cares about his work alot you can tell
b king did you mean "is that true then why does" ?
