Don't be so naïve. It's an effective business strategy. He's a smart man -- sell good food for the cheapest price that allows for profit, and customers will be flocking like birds. Most restaurant owners aren't quite as bright, to say the least, which is why the vast majority of restaurants that open fail, selling okay to bad food for unreasonable prices. Case in point: popcorn stands. It is unbelievably cheap to produce tasty popcorn in large amounts, yet most popcorn stands sell you a relatively small portion of popcorn at $3+. That's a gargantuan profit margin (for a product that literally costs pennies to produce), so much that it minimizes demand to the point that supply ends up becoming excessive. Imagine that at such price point, you sell to 30 customers that day. Had the price been $1 (which is actually still a massive profit margin, but I reiterate, most restaurant owners aren't all that intelligent), the popcorn stand would have sold popcorn to over 300 customers. Other Europe chef after get a Michelin star,” we are going to make our food 3x as expensive and 1/3 of its original portion” this guy,”I will never raise the price of my food 1.50 dollars and thanks for my costumers “.
@@lovelydovley1704 This guy has only one product. His Michelin star is kind of a gimmick if you look at the guidelines that Michelin follows. It's an exceptional product but otherwise doesn't come close to the criteria for a Michelin star. In a European restaurant the portion sizes don't get smaller. It's not like a restaurant suddenly gets a Michelin star. They work 14-16 hour days to prep everything to perfection. The menus often have 6, 9 or even more courses so you get a lot of small dishes (each of them takes a lot of prepwork) which will fill you up nicely. It's usually people who go and have just a main course who complain about portion size. Going to a Michelin restaurant is an experience. If you wanna go there and not spend too much the it's better to go somewhere else. The prices are high because often the ingredients are expensive and the staff costs (these restaurants need a lot more cooks than a regular one + they're better cooks. Also there's more waiting staff per guest) are higher. That plus the costs of developping new dishes everyday and spending time and money to find the right wine (which means going to a vineyard in Chile or whatever) that pairs with a dish make it that the prices are higher. The food however will be on a level that a normal restaurant can't approach. It's a very stressful and tough business and any mistake can cost you your Michelin star(s). The oversimplification that was painted here doesn't do justice to the truth. You might think it's overpriced, but there's so much more work to it than a normal restaurant that it's not just smaller portions for a higher price.
wow. the honor this man has is absolutely incredible. spent a long time perfecting his recipe and doesn’t even think to claim his success on his work. rather, he remains humble and gives his customers the credit for enjoying his food so much, not even raising the price. in a perfect world, everyone would act with the morals that he has ❤️
I might be retarded, but I had no clue that the Michelin stars were literally awarded by the Michelin tire company. I thought they were just 2 different companies with he same name, I'm kinda shook
Could count on a Western foreigner to jack up the price on an unauthentic, lackluster copy of the original. It’s already happened to a lot of Asian foods like sushi, ramen, and pho. Let’s not let them ruin any more foods, yeah?
theworldhere247 you aren't even talking about the same thing. This has to do with distribution, not the food itself. Take your agenda out. Either way, Meng has already expanded.
Nacho TV its $1.50 because rent at a hawker center is absurdly low because usually the lighting is only turned on fully at night and there are only fans. in his other shops around singapore with air conditioning i think the food is slightly more expensive at around USD$2/3 due to the air conditioning costs and rent
that means that instead of a USD$1.50 meal, it became a USD$10,002 meal and probably a few hundred thousand more cuz here in Singapore mere cars cost $100,000 for a decent one. Okay maybe I was exxagerating.

Locals that come there often probably won't buy it after hearing a price raise like that. Even though it is a Michelin star product, it may attract tourists and less of locals.

Andhika Maharetsi I'm not saying this place is bad but the star looks like a public stunt to make Michelin look versatile because you will never see a food cart to be given a star no matter how good it is
the way michelin operates indicates to me that this must be fucking good chicken. It's always arbitrary, but michelin would never affiliate with a restaurant that serves mediocre or just good food. there is no need for them to have a public stunt, since it's already known as the summum of culinary art. People have killed themselves over it. If i ever earn a star i'll happily return it though. Not that i'm that good, but I don't want it either. It changes the entire way your restaurant operates.
BallsofStyle yes they can do a public stunt to make the distribution of Michelin stars to look fair if you look at all the restaurants that were given stars they are mostly French, Mediterranean or other European cuisine and then randomly they out of nowhere they gave a Michelin star to a small noodle bar and a food cart in Singapore that is way to sus

@ParkingLotBedouin The people charging 1,4k per shot today had nothing to do with the original r&d (which took place in the 50s and 60s). If the original recipe cost 1.50 why the cost will rises?
Other Europe chef after get a Michelin star,” we are going to make our food 3x as expensive and 1/3 of its original portion” this guy,”I will never raise the price of my food 1.50 dollars and thanks for my costumers “.
Doesn't work like that. It really doesn't
That's where your wrong. It's the same size and price
3x? You mean 100x
RS so how does it work?

Yeah and then the foreign hordes will jack up the price for the locals.
Could count on a Western foreigner to jack up the price on an unauthentic, lackluster copy of the original. It’s already happened to a lot of Asian foods like sushi, ramen, and pho. Let’s not let them ruin any more foods, yeah?

Nacho TV its $1.50 because rent at a hawker center is absurdly low because usually the lighting is only turned on fully at night and there are only fans. in his other shops around singapore with air conditioning i think the food is slightly more expensive at around USD$2/3 due to the air conditioning costs and rent
Mr Beast should try this and tip him $10,000.

Michelin star should do this more often, street food desereves recognition to the world
Andhika Maharetsi I'm not saying this place is bad but the star looks like a public stunt to make Michelin look versatile because you will never see a food cart to be given a star no matter how good it is
the way michelin operates indicates to me that this must be fucking good chicken.
Or it's not just a small noodle bar. You never ate there, so how can you know?
BallsofStyle yeah it's in a hawker so it's a smaller noodle bar
Singapore: "Chicken good enough to be recognized by a Michelin customer and costs >1$ to make" Keeps it 1.50$
America: "Invents medicine that can save millions of diabetics and it costs >5$ to make" 1,400$ per shot
Glitchy Squid if you think that’s solely a US problem, you’re crazy
Yea, how dare they want to recoup the million if not billion in R&D to create the medication in the first place. What terrible people they are, why didn't they do the work for free just like you.
@ParkingLotBedouin The people charging 1,4k per shot today had nothing to do with the original r&d (which took place in the 50s and 60s). Putting millions of people's life in danger in 2019 out of pure greed is unjustifiable. Btw if you think the transition from extracted insulin to synthetic insulin required multi-billion dollar research you should probably close your laptop and open a book, just a friendly suggestion.
Glitchy Squid The fundamental difference is that just about anyone can open up a chicken stand and innovate their recipe to keep up on the competition, but the current patent system and licensing regulations in place prevents bored college students from using recombinant DNA technology to make insulin in their basement and selling it.
ParkingLotBedouin nothing wrong In wanting to recoup or wanting profit. But 28000% more is just plain greediness.
