I wanted to mention that Spokane hosts not only Bloomsday, we also host Hoopfest one of the biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournaments in the US. We also have over 70 lakes within 30 miles of the city. To say we are a big basketball town with Gonzaga is an understatement! :) (also it is pronounced Gone- Zah- Ga) Go Zags! It was interesting to watch a video about Spokane as a native. Gotta run...ya know the Centenial Trail!
Great video, you really nailed it! I've lived in Spokane almost 30 years. So, if you don't mind I would like to clarify a couple of items: The cat walks are called "Skywalks," Gonzaga is pronounced gone-ZAY-guh, If you really want to see the falls come in the spring. (The flow usually peaks around Memorial Day) Spokane has a thriving foodie scene, too! There are 5 ski resorts within a couple of hours. One is 45 minutes from Downtown, another even rivals Vail! Wild life? In addition to wild turkeys I have seen deer, racoons, moose, a cougar even a black bear pass through my yard and I live less than 2 miles from downtown! I have lived in Central and South America as well as Europe and stumbled into this place around 1998 and see no reason to leave!

Wow.. I lived in Spokane for 12 years starting in the late '80s, and it's hardly changed from what I see here. I''ve always considered it my hometown, even though I only moved there after graduating in western WA. It's an amazing city. Soooo many parks! And perfect 4 seasons. Arbor crest Is located at what we called Riblets mansion. Riblet had a crossing there with equipment he invented that evolved later into ski hill chair lifts. As a kid over 30 years ago we never referred to the poles that hold up the chairs as anything but a Riblet. "Dont run into that Riblet"!
The Bloomsday Run is the kickoff for the Lilac Festival which brings Riverfront Park and Downtown full of activities with focus on our beloved lilcs..until the following weekend when The Armed Forces Torchlight Parade presents the Best of the Great Northwest high school marching bands and floats contributed by the busy people in towns from Western Montana, Northern Idaho, Washington and Oregon. It will make you feel like a kid again when you suddenly realize you've been grinning since the start. And a great big, bright red, very shiny firetruck at the very end. It feels like the carnival had left town. Lots of fun, pretty girls in pretty dresses. I do love that parade. Followed by a long line to get on our prized Loof Carousel and glide around in circles surrounded by lights, music and all the other beautiful animals. But that's another story.

I have lived in Spokane a while ago. It is nothing compared to Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington. If you think Spokane is bad, come visit here and you will see homeless everywhere.
@@aumbre18 I just got back from Spokane visiting my Grandpa and the homeless ness in Downtown Spokane is an absolute non factor compared to San Diego, Ca where I live. I saw homeless but not that many.
I can't wait to move out of Spokane. I moved here for cheaper rents, but they have slowly but surely raised all of the rents. It is now commensurate with Seatlle's high housing costs.
The elevated covered structures that span streets in the downtown area you refer to as “cat walks”. That’s not what we call them. I was born and raised in Spokane and live here. I’ve never heard that before. What we have is a “Skywalk” network. Individual crossings are referred to as “Skywalks”.
Earliest snow is Halloween. Largest TIMED race in the world. Everyone get a time and it is printed in the news paper. You forgot the 3 on 3 basketball tourny in June. By the way Gonzaga is 3 syllables GONE-ZAG-a as in about, a short a.
Spokane has come a LONG way during my lifetime here. Seattle tends to get most of the money, so yes, we’ve been working on a (one🤣) N/S freeway for 30 yrs and it will prob take another 30 to finish, until recently you could disappear into the streets potholes, and we now have enough restaurants around that people actually want to go to, so you may need to make reservations. My highschool years - downtown had a Nordstroms and a NEWBERRYS. Oh, maybe the Cresent/BonMarche. College, nightlife consisted of maybe two bars, 3 if you included N Side or Valley. Most people left for college and didn’t come back. It was a great place to raise kids, or come to retire. It’s actually not nearly as rainy/snowy as it gets credit for, it’s just that our winters seem to last all year. And it is Beautiful in the PNW. Our 4 seasons are phenomenal - you get your city life (small), but in any direction within 20 minutes you’re in natures play ground. Seattles 3 hours away, but with technology and all the renovations Spokane has had, there’s really not the reasons needed for when we used to take off (shopping, cooler people, etc.) Of course there’s crime and homeless, where isn’t there in a metropolitan area? I’m a photographer, I work indoors and out, and I’ve never once had a problem with any homeless, street kids, drunk college kids, or what have you. Show people kindness, respect, and don’t dilly dally in areas that clearly aren’t a place you need to be in (we all know when we’ve turned a wrong corner) and you’ll probably be fine. In fact, I’ve actually been protected by homeless in areas they consider sketch, no one has ever tried to steal my gear or stab me. Now, my daughter has had people try to open her car doors, while waiting at lights downtown. But she thinks they may have been domestic violence type situations. Otherwise, I couldn’t be more proud of how Spokane has slowly come along. It’s what you make of it - any city can suck if you’re a whiner. There’s tons of stuff to do and see, lots of great history mixed in with the new and if you don’t like it, go to Seattle 🥰😘
just remember this is a gang and drug infested hole, hells angels have club houses right on the main drag, and the druggies, gang members and homeless commit murders every single day, and you’ll hear hun shots every night as well
@@terrifiorelli9819 It's sad how much it's changed. When i moved here from southern CA I was really surprised there was NO graffiti, no gangs. There wasn't so many homeless people then, they'd stay at the Mission or the House of Charity. I'd walk home to Browne's Addition (beautiful neighborhood of old homes, mostly college students and elderly folks) from Henry's Pub or The Big Dipper downtown late at night and felt totally safe. (I didn't get in strangers cars so I wasn't concerned about the serial killer...though i knew 2 of the girls. And the only one who actually got away from him after he shot her) Rents were amazingly cheap- you could work part time and afford a studio apt. I could always find a job, even with no experience- Olsten temps found jobs for me every day i wanted to work so i got to try a bunch of different things until i figured out what i wanted to do. I went to school at Spokane Falls community college, the Pell Grant supported me while i was in the graphic design program (and art supplies are expensive! Those were the days when you used paper, pen & ink, rulers, etc) and I didn't need roommates to help pay rent like where i grew up it was at least 400% more. Jeez I didn't realize how lucky i was back then!
Revelation: "they will never finish the sting op in spokane because they prefer to go to hell than to be embarrassed by what you intend to reveal. they are ungodly, as you keep saying."
Clean air ????? The best downtown in the country ??? Either you’re a liar or a gaslighter ! This shows you that visiting somewhere is way different than living there!
I like Spokane, there are some beautiful parks and some great people there, but don't forget that there are some truly awful and horrifying places in Spokane. One of the neighborhoods close to the courthouse is the lowest income neighborhood in the western United States. There is an enormous amount of poverty and criminality and a lot of people come to the town out of multi-generational poverty in the surrounding rural areas, so it is a pretty rough place if you are in the wrong part of Spokane valley or close to the court house or up by the northern part of the town.
We live in Montana and were going to visit Spokane in June, but after reading all these comments about gangs, drugs, violence, I’m super nervous. Are there specific areas to avoid?
It’s not that bad during the day don’t be stupid and alone at night though. The bad areas have nothing to visit so there should be no reason you’re in the bad areas
It is fine during the day downtown. Just don't be out late at night in the downtown area around the bars. Stay in groups of three or more. People that drink can get unruly. Avoid the East Sprague area at night and railroad overpass walkways at night. Really for the size of the city it is not that bad. Just like any city--if you park downtown don't leave valuables in view in your car. Avoid the lower South hill, especially the East side. Mainly at night. The lady narrating is mispronouncing a lot of things. She mispronounced Gonzaga and other words.. Spokane Valley in the poorer district seems to get a lot of crime reports? Not sure why other than there is the new homeless shelter on East Trent. So do not get a place to live near there. Also don't get a place to live around the Courthouse district. That area is sketchy too.. Overall it is a great place to live! And they have hired a ton more police officers so they have like tripled the coverage downtown. Which seems to have cut down on car prowling. Most of the crime is related to drug use and people breaking into cars for stuff to pawn for money for their drug habit. Or shootings over drug deals gone bad. Again in the same neighborhoods. Outside of those areas you will find a beautiful diverse area with something for everyone. 😊
@oodiejubro6250 Are the positives good enough to move to over the west coast? Every year the people are worse, as is the politics. Spokane looks incredibly beautiful and has great geography, but I get bombarded with quite a bit of the super negatives like increase in homelessness and heavy drug usage? Is this overblown? That kind of stuff is sadly pervasive anywhere that's a mid sized city, so I don't know if it just get overblown for Spokane.
Compared to Portland Oregon, you have no idea. I would rather live in Spokane far more than I would live in Portland Oregon. I don't know if you've been on the west side of the state (Washington or Oregon), but I find Spokane to be a very quiet town.
It gets flipping cold in Spokane - they do not plow the grocery store parking lots - not good for pregnant women or seniors or folks with disabilities. I never clicked with the people there - I was from Seattle and the East side of Washington is totally different than the west side of the state. I never heard the term cat walk for sky walks? They have those in Des Moines Iowa too. And many other states.
I'm really regretting moving to Spokane. Fine place to visit but not the place to live. Horrible streets and sidewalks. So many stores have closed. Rent is to high for these little shacks. Garbage everywhere on streets and in shopping center parking lots. Homelessness is insane along with open drinking. Cars are constantly being broken into and many house fires are done by bad actors.
Same I’ve regretted moving here (for promotion) the entire 3yrs, their Government here are tyrants, except when it come to actual crimes/criminals, it’s smells like sewage in most parts 24/7, half the stores that were here 3yrs ago are now closed, Spokan’t Drive is a real thing, logging roads are smoother to drive on than their main roads, can’t take ur kids anywhere without them witnessing drug use/ppl tweaked out & their main Medical providers are Multicare, which have more wrongful death & neglect lawsuits (just for Spokane) than I’ve handled in my entire career🤨
I live here. It's not pronounced Gonzawguh. We're the 2nd largest city in WA after Seattle and are thankfully nothing at all like them. Expo is still present in downtown. It is however getting more dangerous by the day. I won't even do my photography downtown anymore.
Downtown Spokane may seem slightly sketch but I'm fairly young and short stature although I'm a man and have walked around there my whole life and never felt necessary threatened. You'll probably be heckled for money pretty frequently sometimes aggressively but nobody is ever outwardly violent towards me. There's so many good attractions and things to do in the area anyways. Downtown is the reason I love Spokane.
@@teamextremepk How are the general normal people there? Friendly and open? I hate the seattle/portland vibe and the people there. It's nauseating and highly political. Is Spokane less like that? Are most areas pretty nice and ok to walk around, any areas you'd consider a no-go?
I've lived In spokane a couple years now and I'll tell you that downtown is horrible after 8pm once the city lights come on the tweaker come out there's shootings everyday police chases every day and has one of the highest criminal rates in Washington per population wise there's so many reckless drivers and to many crashes a day to count, the down town area specifically has homeless people on every street corner and drugdealers on every other corner, I came from a very high gang violent town and I've been pushed and pressed by fake wannabe gangbangers frequently in spokane multiple people pulling guns out on me one time even getting mugged at northern quest there's a bridge downtown nicknamed suicide bridge because the amount of people that jump and hang themselves from it yearly overall tho the park downtown is a great visit and if you visit spokane make sure it's during the day
I live in Spokane now what gang are you talking about? I work right across from the “biggest drug homeless population in the city. It’s no worse than Portland or Seattle!
Spokane USED to be a great place to live. I was born here 50 years ago, and it was great until…. People started making/posting videos about how great it is. For God’s sake, STOP IT!!!
You’re 100% correct I’m not sure what this one was on about Spokane is a shit hole the non-violent crime rate is one of the highest you’re going to find yes violent crime rate isnt the worst
Racist my ass. We just don’t want these people who think the race card will work here taking advantage. It has already become a homeless drug addicts academy. It is not safe as this person describes. Hasn’t been for many years now.
Haga no its not. We just dont like illegals and were not like Seattle and we hate all the California's and their bs politics. @@mikepotter945 it's a lot worse than it was 5 yrs ago. I dont care if it's not as bad as Portland and Seattle. It's still a big issue
This is every city....
@@aumbre18 I just got back from Spokane visiting my Grandpa and the homeless ness in Downtown Spokane is an absolute non factor compared to San Diego, Ca where I live. I saw homeless but not that many.
Spokane is nothing compared to most major cities. You can avoid the homeless people if you just know where not to go.
Damn, you walk fast if you can walk all of Downtown in 15 minutes.
What no panoramas of Camp Hope?
You should have gone to the Cedar Floating Restaurant in Coeur d’Alene.
Wow great suggestion!
Spokane is cool, been there many times …
VERY informative!!! Thanks so much!!!
Glad it was helpful! 👍
FOUR HOUR DRIVE?! If you are going 100 mph! Spokane is a 6-8 hour drive from Seattle. May is our rainy season. Come in July.
Really Google maps says a little over 4 hrs
@@RunTheAtlastook me about 4.5 hours to drive from Seattle.
short and straight to the point video. Thanks😃
Thanks so much!
I can't wait to move out of Spokane. I moved here for cheaper rents, but they have slowly but surely raised all of the rents. It is now commensurate with Seatlle's high housing costs.
I think you mean “commensurate with.”
@@scottgrohs5940 Yes. I guess I need to spell check a little better. Thank you.
The elevated covered structures that span streets in the downtown area you refer to as “cat walks”. That’s not what we call them. I was born and raised in Spokane and live here. I’ve never heard that before.
What we have is a “Skywalk” network. Individual crossings are referred to as “Skywalks”.
sounds good!
Thanks for all your content!
Earliest snow is Halloween. Largest TIMED race in the world. Everyone get a time and it is printed in the news paper. You forgot the 3 on 3 basketball tourny in June. By the way Gonzaga is 3 syllables GONE-ZAG-a as in about, a short a.
Just went to spokane for a couple weeks. Homeless everywhere by Gonzaga. My 2 cents: Depressing, dirty city, with awesome people.
Is Spokane Washington as dangerous and crazy as Los Angeles or no comparison?
I am in Spokane. It is Gonzaaaga not Gonzoooga.
May 16th is my birthday and me and my family might be moving to Spokane
I judge from the previous comments that you weren't in Spokan long enough to do real review...
About your clean air comment. It has the highest population density for people of Asthma in the world. There is a reason why. They're all about 45-55.
Your gorgeous🎉!!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Forgot to mention Spokan’t 😂They even have a RUclips channel called “Spokan’t Drive” Daily astonishing uploads😂
It’s the lack of hand washing for me
Easy town to fall in love with!
very interesting ! looks like a great city to visit!
It’s not
just remember this is a gang and drug infested hole, hells angels have club houses right on the main drag, and the druggies, gang members and homeless commit murders every single day, and you’ll hear hun shots every night as well
@@wonderingwildling2598 It's 100% true
It is dangerous with all the drugs and thief’s. Use to be nice 20 yrs. ago ,but going downhill faster than ever!
And the only one who actually got away from him after he shot her)
Rents were amazingly cheap- you could work part time and afford a studio apt.
Geesh! Don’t tell people how close it is to CDA, Idaho 😂😂😂
Lollll
Don't waste your time stay In Montana
im in Montana but bro stay in Montana
/ if you want to see contrast, yeah visit Spokane
Spokane is 6 hours from Seattle. 30 minutes from Idaho.
From Seatac airport to Spokane (North town area), I've never used more than 4 hours and 50 minutes in total. Done this trip many times!
You forgot to mention the big homeless camps, the gang presence & violence that Spokane is well known for.
@@cmartin5295 I seem to speaking with more and more folks talking MT
But you can't bring any of your fun guns, and stay out of downtown, Westside, Hillyard at night.
Spokane is the third largest city in Washington so how many major metropolis are you talking about?
What the heck are you talking about. Maybe you should leave and live in your happy place somewhere else. Try LA
Clean air??
Oh no not fire season
You should do one on Moscow, Idaho or Coeur d' Alene
Oh great Idea! I will do one on CDA soon :)
Don’t come to Spokane it looks nothing like this. There’s needles and tinfoil all over
wtf it takes me just 2 hours to get to seattle
Do not stop here unless you HAVE to. Not safe at all you’ve been warned
I live here. It's not pronounced Gonzawguh. We're the 2nd largest city in WA after Seattle and are thankfully nothing at all like them. Expo is still present in downtown. It is however getting more dangerous by the day. I won't even do my photography downtown anymore.
Can you give me cost og living or livelihood?
I wanna move there
Downtown Spokane may seem slightly sketch but I'm fairly young and short stature although I'm a man and have walked around there my whole life and never felt necessary threatened.
Life is like avater.. i mean that worh anomosity
That was a rooster not a turkey

this city is absolutly beautiful. i pronounce the name as spo cane instead of spo can. idk i just prefer it.
It's Spokane not cane
It's spokompton.

I've lived In spokane a couple years now and I'll tell you that downtown is horrible after 8pm once the city lights come on the tweaker come out there's shootings everyday police chases every day and has one of the highest criminal rates in Washington per population wise there's so many reckless drivers and to many crashes a day to count, the down town area specifically has homeless people on every street corner and drugdealers on every other corner, I came from a very high gang violent town and I've been pushed and pressed by fake wannabe gangbangers frequently in spokane multiple people pulling guns out on me one time even getting mugged at northern quest there's a bridge downtown nicknamed suicide bridge because the amount of people that jump and hang themselves from it yearly overall tho the park downtown is a great visit and if you visit spokane make sure it's during the day
That’s not what turkeys sound like.
We struggle with sound effects sometimes!
"clean air" aged really well
Are you from Spokane?
No
Is anybody knows about Sarah Hettal here ??
Rent too high & jobs wages weak.
Their robbing me
Wonderful video, not a friendly town.
Violence is very bad here..and racist..
You’re 100% correct I’m not sure what this one was on about Spokane is a shit hole the non-violent crime rate is one of the highest you’re going to find yes violent crime rate isnt the worst
Towards Hispanics?
@@WalksandSuch unfortunately yes
Racist my ass. We just don’t want these people who think the race card will work here taking advantage. It has already become a homeless drug addicts academy. It is not safe as this person describes. Hasn’t been for many years now.
Haga no its not. We just dont like illegals and were not like Seattle and we hate all the California's and their bs politics.
