In this video, Dan from www.plantabunda... shares with you his process of harvesting the seeds from some 'Mammoth Sunflowers' growing in an urban backyard food forest.
rubbing off the flower buds was a huge help! I had no idea what to do if I needed to let it dry out more or not this is my first year and I'm excited thank you for this perfectly thorough video
I have about. 60 sunflower heads , all different varieties from dwarfs to reds and burgundy, to o range and yellow mammoths....I’ve dried them indoors , rubbed and collected seeds. Some are viable some aren’t and there’s a ton of unwanted bits . His do I do the separating quickly and do I rinse them before saving for next year? Thankyou.
I found some mammoth sunflower seeds, can you harvest and eat those or is it a specific variety you grow too eat. How easily can they cross pollinate with different varieties?
If the seeds are dry and wrinkly then they are not going to be viable/edible. Empty shells on the flower head means you helped to feed the birds. Whatever is left you can save and grow/eat. Cheers!

Nice work bro. Where can i get some seeds for planting them?
Why do some of may sunflowers frack in half?
How do you get the seeds out of the shells? A bit faster then one-by-one, if possible?

i READ ON ANOTHER SITE THAT THE SEEDS SHOULD BE KEPT IN AN AIR TIGHT JAR IN A VERY COOL PLACE SUCH AS A CELLAR OR THE FRIDGE .
what if seeds are dried up or empty
