How to attach modern legs and make them sturdy

I attempted to make a base out of bondo when I first started. It wasn’t pretty but it worked. I’m still have nightmares about it

Thanks for so much detail & explanation. I actually understaood ALL of it! I'm in the process of doing something similar to a dresser that's in way better condition but I was definitely going to do it wrong. Cheers from Australia :)

I think you should have used hardwood instead of pine.

Good but I would have used pocket holes to attach the base wood
