    Would you say this conversion makes the car a lot more 'fun' to drive? My 66 has the C4 with 2.80 gears and I'm looking to get a little more punch out of my stock 289. Not sure if I should start with a gear change, or go all in with a manual conversion. I love your vids by the way.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Год назад +1

      Oh thanks! In my opinion, yes absolutely more fun. Plus you'll get more power to transfer to your wheels just from it being a manual.

    Oh, I forgot to ask. How did you know the trans output shaft would fit the driveshaft input shaft? Do a spline count or did you change the driveshaft input? Thanks much and Cheers from Motown.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 года назад +3

      So it pays to have a very good transmission guy. I drive 12 hours to have my guy work and build my transmissions. As long as you have the same spline count and the same output shaft length and the right extension housing, everything swaps over without issues. I used the same driveshaft that was in the car with the c4. But my guy knew what I was doing with this car and built the trans to make sure the conversion would go flawlessly.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage Thanks so much for your reply!! It pays to communicate right?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 года назад +3

      Absolutely! There are lots of top loaders out there that came from different Ford's and have different lengths of output shafts and extension housings. So as long as your guy knows its for a Mustang that is getting a conversion, it will get done right! Cheers!

    Hi Alex my name is Alex too. what a great name lol. I have a ford 200ci with a c4 behind it in a 64 falcon. my question is, will a toploader bolt up in its place?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage

      Ha ha! It's a great name indeed. A top loader should bolt up. You just need to change the bell housing and obviously get all the clutch and shift linkage.

    Hello again Alex! Having trouble with my C-6 manual reverse valve body trans. It shifts 1-2-1. WTH? Must have been doing what when I bought the car, I just took it out after tons of work. Most parts came with it fairly new. Linkage adjusted right, trans well maintained, new fluid, pan, gasket filter. Modulator is hooked up (should'nt need it anyway with manual valve body).? Want to go back to original 4 speed toploader also. 67 Mustang 460, ex-390 4 speed car. Should bell housing on the C-6 fit the Top loader, drive shaft etc? I can measure first. What top loader would you suggest for the 460? Thanks for these videos! Appreciate you and all you do for us weekend warriors. Blessings from Michigan.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  2 года назад +2

      Hey Robert! Ya thats a weird deal shifting 1-2-1. I've got a C6 with a manual valve body behind the 460 in my 67 as well. I've been beating the snot out of that thing for years trying to get it to blow up but it just won't die on me. So transmissions are not my strong suit (I guess that means I need more practice). But I would assume you've probably lost 3rd gear somehow some way or you just have a valve body issue which is re-directing your fluid to engage 1st again rather than 3rd. Either way, it doesn't sound fun and installing the 4-speed sounds like more fun. So as far as which toploader to go with, the C6 bell housings don't come off like a C4 or toploader goes. So you'll have to try and track down a 4-speed bell that fits the 429/460 engine family (probably have to find one out of a pickup truck). As far as the which toploader goes, I would be looking for a Big block 390/428 toploader. The ones that came factory behind 460's were out of pickup trucks and you probably don't want that type of gearing. If you can find a big block 390/428 toploader that came out of a Mustang or Cougar (not a galaxie or anything else), that would probably be ideal. Check out David Kee toploaders for an ID chart www.davidkeetoploaders.com/idchart1.htm That should give you accurate ID tags to help you find what you're looking for. As far as driveshaft goes, I'm not sure if the length will be the same so you might have to have one made. I hope that answers your questions. As always you're welcome to ask as many questions as you would like and I will do my best to answer.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage Thanks so much for your time and quick response! I might just start with pulling the valve body and checking all the solenoids first or swap it our for forward VB or regular VB with a shift kit. Have a great day Alex and stay safe out there and thanks again!

      So you'll want to do your research here. A 31 spline wide ratio 4 speed is quite rare and likely not going to be compatible with your 3 speed driveshaft. Sounds like you might have a early 70's top loader off a 351 cleveland out of a Torino or Fairlane.
