It doesn't fill or coat anything. It dissolves the top layer of the plastic and that material levels out the micro-grooves (scratches) left behind by the abrasives. You can "nick" the surface by hitting with the nozzle because the surface is soft - until the acetone completely evaporates, once it's gone the surface is hard again. It still makes sense to use a protective coat to protect the headlights from the elements.
What’s your opinion on the sylvenia headlight restoration kit? The process is basically first using a surface activator to remove any grease from the lights, clean it off, then sand with 3 grits of sand paper (400, 1000, 2000) then when done use surface activator again, clean it off, use a clarifying compound and apply like you would wax to a car, then wash and clean off then you finally apply a UV block clear coat. Using this exact same kit I noticed these subtle shatter-like micro fractures in the test headlights I used. I saw them in the upper portion of the headlight you used in this video also. I’m thinking the heat from the vapor is causing the plastic to either contract or expand and it’s stretching it causing those micro fractures. Any thoughts on this?
This has nothing to do with the vapor or any agent you apply on top. These fractures are inside the plastic, a different kind of plastic degradation, sometimes it can be seen on a newish headlights too. Of course if you have it yellowed and hazy you don't notice them until you polish the surface scratches. The vapor fluid is acetone-like, it melts the surface and evens it out so it's glossy - it's not really a "coating" as it does not put any material on top (the vapor itself carries next to nothing, plus it eventually also evaporates, maybe a tiny bit of some kind of UV additive is carried by the vapor and gets embedded on the surface but that's about it).

Yeah everything that looks good isn't technically good... It offers a little protection from the elements the cold heat etc... And even less protection against impact.. when you're driving exceeding 40 mph your car is getting bombarded with stuff especially on the freeway this is why you have Rock chips and things like that on your vehicle or bugs embedded into your bumper.... Wow, something new, which way to go? The McGuires is definitely faster and easier. Not sure what the advantage is for the vapor process but looks really cool. I will thinks about which way to go. Thanks for sharing.
Help!!! I have to ask! Somewhere between my 3000 stage and polishing I'm not getting that final clarity before coating. Let's assume that my initial cut, and 800 sanding stage is good, and then the 3000 and polishing are not quite popping like your work. It's good, but it ain't sellable, damnit, I've been doing a bunch for free trying to develop that final clarity... Eager to progress!!! I should mention, the last two definitely had some after market clear coat that required 400 by hand to break it loose, but then the 3m 500 disc cut like butter.
You just truly got to ask yourself if you're actually doing what I'm doing..? And if you're really actually using the supplies I'm using? And even the tools? A lot of people say they are but 100% they're not at every little thing matters down to what brand of sandpaper I'm using the fact that I use 3M p 800 not 800 sanding paper.... There's a huge difference... If you're not that your reason right there... Because if I gave you my tools and sat there and watched you do it it would most definitely come out....
@@theheadlightrestorationpro Thanks for the help! I used 3m kit discs, but not 3m hard plastic, and my polisher is my drill. I'm not getting those last steps exactly, you're right. It's impossible to generate this level of clarity without a polisher you can get a good likeness but it won't happen it's not generating heat as you said.... And your polish is far unsufficient compared to the 3ms you'd be surprised..
@@theheadlightrestorationproThank you so much man! I'm gonna go get both of those items right now. I'll post an update... I really appreciate you taking the time, Jason

@@theheadlightrestorationpro hmm note taken, Ive used Sylvanias headlight resto kit with great results, a year parked out in Southern California weather with no degradation or yellowing so far, but this ones much easier. I would obviously do the proper removal of the oxidized plastic first and then maybe use this one as a finisher, and maybe a clearcoat to fully seal it up for good measures. Thanks for showcasing the product, ive only seen some youtube shorts on it and thought its too good to be true. Then stumbled upon your video demonstrating it. Great job mate!
@@theheadlightrestorationproI think it's actually M.E.K., not acetone. And I believe it's not a "coating" or "filler". The M.E.K. is essentially melting a very thin layer of polycarbonate which is lowering the high spots into the low spots and smoothing it out to make it optically clear. Vaporizing it instead of brushing or wiping it on could be analogized to spray painting compared to brush painting. I do enjoy watching to restore the headlights.
@big_freedom65 yeah like in the video I believe I said I don't think it's acetone I'm not exactly sure what it is because they never started even online cannot find exactly what it is... And yeah it's a slight chemical melt and slight fill.... It offers almost zero UV protection... It does not last long at all... You should see part two of the video... Here it is.. ruclips.net/video/p4UiHUpvZuE/видео.htmlsi=IyJVBFR0PbNPRScK
I think you are correct in what this chemical is doing. If it is MEK you do not want to breath that vapor in as apart of your job without an organic vapor mask. Will give you lung cancer if you do it long enough. I would skip the toxic chemical part and just use Mothers aluminum wheel polish as the final polish step, that is what I do and the plastic comes out crystal clear. Then spray with a UV protect and you are good for 2-3 years at least.@@big_freedom65
With how long it takes, I'd rather go with the Mcguires. Time is money and it's not an extreme jump up in clarity, plus a drop in how long it'll last. But awesome video for sure brother!
The results are amazing... but I don't feel I shall include it as an option in my practice. More research is needed, especially to give a customer a guarantee on length of protection. Keep up the great content and I appreciate your knowledge in this business.

If you did headlights clear spray comparison that would be legendary. Some headlights from the junkyard restored then spray half with meguiars, half with 2k clear. could test like 6 products on just 3 headlights and do a check in on them every few months to see the oxidation.

@@theheadlightrestorationpro lol yep exactly. at the very least put some tape mask around the surrounding paint. I would like to give this vapor method a try on one of my older vehicles. As usual, the prep work is what takes the most time. I think I tried that rag trick (which isn't really a trick) when I was in my teens. Learned really quick that that's not how to do it haha 😂
Google - This method involves using a specialized tool that sprays a fine mist of polymer vapor onto the surface of the headlight lens, which then reacts with the plastic to create a smooth, glossy finish... In a sense a reaction almost the same as I spray coating... The vapor solidifies and creates a smooth coating on the surface the polycarbonate and also penetrating those pockets and fissures... The steam itself is probably only 110°, not really hot enough to melt even if you said it's still for a really long time... Although the acetone and chemical compound has a slight melting capability chemically that's just Bond and most clear coats and especially headlight clear coats have these in them..
@@theheadlightrestorationpro In fact, it reacts with polycarbonat/Polyetherimide/Polysulfone plastic. Another example that works much better is "Weld-on 4" "Vapor Polishing with weld-on4" google it

Thanks for all your vids about headlight resto, your info is fantastic. Just tried this method today and the Headlights turned out like Brand new! 👍👍
Q - At the end, after you vapor your lights, what are your thoughts about using meguiars headlight coating over the top of the vapor?
I tried..just didn't put in the video because video was getting longer than I like....not a good idea...
Check this out it will explain why...⬇️

@@theheadlightrestorationpro 👍👍Thanks for that. Now just need to see how long this method lasts....
Awesome...👍🏽
From lots of vapor users, the solution is acetone. Same used for nail polish remover.
I was waiting to see when you were going to test the vapor out. Great video 👍
Awesome.. thank you 👍🏽
It's Acetone. That's why it melts the surface and smooths the lense.
👍🏽 kinda (just think you can hold your hand over it and not be burned - but yeah polycarbonate melting point is 300°....)
Looks nice for eight dollars. I only have to hope that the magic liquor in eight-dollar kit is the same as yours (same hardware, no briefcase, the flask is only 100ml but what's in there?)
(edit) just saw the recent follow-up... well, we get what we pay for.
Yeah you always get what you pay for.. was very disappointed in the results in the long run..
no way man damn i thought this was the way to go long term goddamn now im furious... i will watch that other video here shortly im on a binge watching streak LOL @@theheadlightrestorationpro
Done a couple different lights with vapour, they look good... BUT end result seems to be quite soft and prone for scratches... and on one set of lights surface turned into spiderweb after a few days 🤔
I would estimate it's about 95% thinner then an average headlight coating especially one that sprayed...
Can't seem to get Meguiar's spray in big can in New Zealand 🙁 have to see how many lights the small would get done...
@onuke112 the can I use typically covers about 3 to 4 cars..
14:00 eyyy, I used to draw those little MKIII Supras years and years ago. They may even be one of my old designs 😂
Lol.🤓
Does it still looks good today?
It actually does ....I think I'll do an update on the next video....
Look out for that it will drop this weekend..
This looks the perfect stuff in combination with PPF
All right.. 👍🏽
I wonder if u could use the meguiars clear coat over top of the vapor
Lol... Yeah that's a no-go I would need more research but that was part of the video I had it edited out because it was too long but I did try that and it didn't look too good it got pretty hazy I'm pretty sure it has to do with multiple layer effect which they should give you more insight on...👇🏽

@@theheadlightrestorationpro lol oh ok yeah it prolly has a chemical reaction of some sort thx for the reply keep up the good work
Thanks bro. Some say you spoke alot, but that is exactly what I needed about the topic. 👍🏾
I buy one but its not heating up???
Send it back by the one of the bio.. the one that's in this video.
Wow, something new, which way to go? The McGuires is definitely faster and easier. Not sure what the advantage is for the vapor process but looks really cool. I will thinks about which way to go. Thanks for sharing.
👍🏽
In fact, this steam melts a layer of the plastic surface and quickly solidifies at room temperature.
@@theheadlightrestorationpro
Thanks for the help! I used 3m kit discs, but not 3m hard plastic, and my polisher is my drill. I'm not getting those last steps exactly, you're right. I'm using mcguiars plastic x after 3000, but I know I'm not generating heat during polish. Should I invest in polisher?
It's impossible to generate this level of clarity without a polisher you can get a good likeness but it won't happen it's not generating heat as you said....
And your polish is far unsufficient compared to the 3ms you'd be surprised..
@@theheadlightrestorationproThank you so much man! I'm gonna go get both of those items right now. I'll post an update... I really appreciate you taking the time,
Jason
No time man anytime... New video about to post a couple minutes....👍🏽💯🤯
any follow up after 1 year? which one is better?
this looks like acetone vaping on 3D printed ABS
👍🏽🤓
Wow, this is very useful, bro, thanks for sharing the tips
Hay .. thank you...
You gotta see part 2 the follow up..

Can i maybe borrow a drill and some batteries?
Seriously though, thank you for producing your videos and sharing your knowledge and experience.
Hey no problem thank you for watching....
Damn this guy can talk 🤣🤣🤣
Yes..... very true.....👍🏽
Thank you for watching..💯
@@theheadlightrestorationpro thanks for showing us this product, might have to give this a try! Results look phenomenal!
Yeah it's not bad at all...
If you have an enclosed setting, someplace where there's no breeze or direct sun.. it's not bad still running some tests on it.. my only drawback to it is it's rather thin.. which can be problematic for impact...
You should never double coat...
ruclips.net/video/NgxNImOAoCY/видео.html
Great videos 💕 did u research the blue liquid? Is it acetone?
Predominantly . But there's a bunch of other stuff inside of it mixed with it...
Another great vid
Thank you ..🦾 appreciate it..
Where are you located
West coast.🌴
With how long it takes, I'd rather go with the Mcguires. Time is money and it's not an extreme jump up in clarity, plus a drop in how long it'll last. But awesome video for sure brother!
Exactly.. it's very hard to get this in a mobile setting as well.. any kind of breeze it's wrap... Plus you need a power plug in...
Don't u need to alcohol wipe it ,once you use Mcguires polish prior to applying the coat so it bonds better
This is how mechanics keep fighter jet canopies clear. This method is older than your El Dorado.
El Dorado.....
The results are amazing... but I don't feel I shall include it as an option in my practice. More research is needed, especially to give a customer a guarantee on length of protection. Keep up the great content and I appreciate your knowledge in this business.
Exactly..I couldn't in good conscience provide this to a customer... Not enough data behind it....👍🏽🫵🏽🦾
@@theheadlightrestorationpro spray it with the meguiars after! 😁
I actually did that... Did not did not work it got all hazy I edited it out cuz the video was kind of long.
@@theheadlightrestorationpro dang
Yeah. I did a bunch of stuff that's not on here and it was like an hour and 15 minutes video so I had to cut some off....
Try nail polish remover in the vapor kit.
😉👍🏽
would that actually work dude ??? i know it is acetone but clear form. in the vapor kits there all blue color ???? i just order another kit because i ran out of the fluid. paid 35$ for 100ml.... i

@aimized1460 probably not
That’s why it needs to be tried for shits and gigs
A chemical that is cold and dries fast sounds like ACETONE . Maybe they add some tint to turn it blue to confuse the buyer?
Leave the light out in the sun for a couple of days to see the UV damage between the vapor product and the Meguiars coating. I'd love to see it.
Yes did this but it's going to a couple months if not a Year...
If you did headlights clear spray comparison that would be legendary. Some headlights from the junkyard restored then spray half with meguiars, half with 2k clear. could test like 6 products on just 3 headlights and do a check in on them every few months to see the oxidation.
I do this... I've done this...I'm doing this...
I don't topically record this though because to see any real results your talking 8-16 months waiting to see or make the video... That's a bit drawn out for me...👍🏽
@The Headlight Restoration Pro Good deal 👌. In the mean time in between time. I'll keep watching your videos 😊
New video out...
Acetone vapor is not a coating, it melts the surface a bit..
i WOULD PUT A COATING AFTER APPLYING THAT. THAT SHOULD MAKE IT A 5 STAR RESTO.
Closer to 2/3 than 1/2 😎
By chance do you like biscuits with mustard?😂
I do all the work on my cars and customers cars by hand I have no power tools don’t like them if your power stops working and you battery is dead you can’t do anything plus with hand tools you don’t have to worry about getting oil or trans fluid on them
It would be nice if you just got to the point. You talk way too much.
Well there is an option... If it's not to your liking but nobody is forcing you to view... There's always that... Some people don't like education it's just the fact.. if it's not to your liking you have more options than to just watch...
Just keep in mind you're 13,000 people like it and growing a thousand each month.. for some reason you don't ..... Personally I don't watch stuff that I don't like... call me crazy...Thanks for viewing I really appreciate it..😊😁😁😁😁😁
Thank you for the video but I think you like hearing yourself talk like a lot you should probably do less of that. Appreciate the information
It sounds like two different people talking. Normal voice then a raspy voice lol. I watch at 1.5 speed.
The talking is good in my opinion.
It's a chemical reaction not a coating, filler, cover up of any sort.
Man, you know how to talk
it's Dichloroethane
👍🏽
The Meguir's coating looks better
By far looks better.... And all around better than every category.....
You're telling everyone else how wrong they are by doing things by hand yet showing and using something that you have no idea what it is and how it works!
Bro don’t need the endless talking and clear on clear gets clear and you did use the kit like they suggested right
I hear it’s just acetone. Steaming acetone.
Its acetone
Alot of American people talk and talk alot
And yet, here you are listening😂😂😂
@@karynakarina well i skipped a bit 🤔
Someone take the batteries off of this guy!
Process is very good, but to much of SHIT TALK and Language
Omg ! You’re talking too much.
No need to do all this. Simply wipe with acetone and it will wipe away the oxidized plastice and leave behind a clear plastic.
Good luck.... Trust me as a specialist who does this for a living and is done more tests on headlights than you can imagine.. no this will do nothing... Maybe clean some dirt off but that's about it.. your headlights will look like💩💩💩💩
I guarantee it no matter what anybody says they're lying...💯
Yeah I tried that and it left half of the rag embedded in the plastic it dissolved lol
@JbVest yeah people just say things on here and don't really know what they do but probably never done it because it's so dangerous you're rubbing paint thinner on your car doesn't sound like a good idea.... Your car is about 99% paint at least on the outside..😂😂
@JbVest 😂🤣
HI
In fact, this steam melts a layer of the plastic surface and quickly solidifies at room temperature.
Not really.... The steam isn't that hot it's more chemical based... You can literally hold your hand on it for a couple seconds..
Google -
This method involves using a specialized tool that sprays a fine mist of polymer vapor onto the surface of the headlight lens, which then reacts with the plastic to create a smooth, glossy finish...
Another example that works much better is "Weld-on 4"
